Feigning an interest in gardening indicates true desperation! I suspect it was just a stepping stone away from the books!

mmzz · 02/06/2018 18:18

Teenmum, have the iGCSEs changed this year? I know they still have A*-G

sandybayley · 02/06/2018 18:36

@mmzz - some of the iGCSE have changed. DS1 will have 1-9 in maths, geography, history and Latin. Other 1-9 exams would be Greek, Art, Drama and Music. All the rest of his exams with be letters ( English x 2) and sciences. He did French last year.

mmzz · 02/06/2018 18:43

Are the iGCSEs migrating to 9-1 too, just at different rate, and in a different order from the GCSEs, or will they stay on the alphabetic grades? Is the content changing too?

mmzz · 02/06/2018 18:51

And sorry, one more question, can anyone tell me what happens on results day? I know the students go to school to collect, but do they get posted on a wall, or handed out on certificates in sealed envelopes, or something else? Is there a combined certificate with all GCSE results on it, or two ( one for each exam board)? What time do they usually go in? First thing in the morning or does each student drift in at some time in the morning?

In Scotland, we used to get the results posted to our homes, direct from the (Government controlled, single exam board). Apparently, now the DC can choose to gave the results sent to them on a text message.

BlueBelle123 · 02/06/2018 18:58

I think all schools can do results day slightly differently at DS's school they go in at 9 to collect their envelope which will have all their results, this has been produced by the school, certificates aren't given until a few months later, as people can go for re-marks or reviews which can change their result.
Also members of staff are available for advice if things don't go well or go better than expected.

TheThirdOfHerName · 02/06/2018 18:59

And sometimes differently even within the same school.

DS2 (GCSEs) has to go into school to collect an envelope.

DS1 (A-levels) will receive an email.

BlueBelle123 · 02/06/2018 19:01

Regarding these exams DS has found them all fine, what is interesting is back in the autumn when he started this mamonth journey he kept on saying that it was impossible to learn so much and his brain would explode but I can report his brain hasn't exploded and it is possible to commit alot more to memory then you might think.

All kicks off for DS again on Monday with History!!

BlueBelle123 · 02/06/2018 19:09

thethird I think with A levels they tend to be pre-warned with how they have by track, Ie if there offer turns to firm.........very tense times I wish your DS the best of luck (both of them!)

mmzz · 02/06/2018 19:10

Thanks Bluebelle and Thethird.
Bluebelle is that AQA History? Which options is your DS taking on Monday? DS has the Cold War and USA.

brainmelt · 02/06/2018 19:11

mmzz as I understand IGCSEs are migrating to 1-9 next year as DS tells me he is part of the last cohort with letters... Results day wise, school will be open but also posting results online. We won't be around so it's online mid-morning for us.

mmzz · 02/06/2018 19:13

brainmelt doesn't your DS need to matriculate in person for his 6th form choice on 23rd?

BlueBelle123 · 02/06/2018 19:15

No he's doing Edexcel and monday is medicine in Britain.

brainmelt · 02/06/2018 19:15

I don't know mmzz...He's staying at his school and has chosen his subjects. HoDs have all signed on his choices and approved. We haven't been told we have to go...

brainmelt · 02/06/2018 19:17

I should say DS is getting 1-9 grades in Maths and Latin only.

AlexanderHamilton · 02/06/2018 19:17

I’ve got a feeling the few who do make it into school on results day get an envelope. Not decided if Dd is going yet. Will try & get there but we might be away. I’m assuming it’s email otherwise.

Sostenueto · 02/06/2018 19:18

Dgd had her mock results in brown envelope which they had to go collect in the hall. As far as I know at dgds school for GCSE results you can :- go to school 9 am till 12 and collect, have them sent in post or emailed to you( if you are on holiday). Also on results day you can go sort out if you need to swap A levels.

Teenmum60 · 02/06/2018 19:19

I know Edexcel IGCSE's are migrating (and I think this will be the last year of A-G's), not sure about Cambridge ?
Dd will collect her results from school at 10am...fortunately she is with me the morning of 23rd and the rest of that weekend DF (she has already said she wants to go in and collect them alone- which I completely understand).
History for DD on Monday too (just 1hr 30 mins) - History teacher always states its a speed writing exercise which DD is not great at.

Oratory1 · 02/06/2018 19:42

History here too and time will be a huge problem and writing anything comprehensible without spell check.

Mine all had to go into school. DD2 got her results handed to her in an envelope (and hid behind a shed to open them alone while I waited in the car park until I got a text saying I was allowed in to school). DS will get his from his Tutor in school (ie individually in his office !! I'd have hated that). Then he as a parents evening (actually morning) on the first day back to confirm subjects/get a pep talk about how hard they'll have to work etc etc.

Cblue · 02/06/2018 19:44

Cambridge are migrating. At the moment the schools can choose between the 1-9 and the C-A* papers for some subjects (ie there are 2 different papers for the same subject from the one board).

DD last exam on 13th (this will be exam number 4 post H/T for her - def on the home straight).

3 hours maths revision today and we are now playing craft challenge. She’s making Prince Charles out of buttons, a clock and some flip flops. I am making an amazon inspired sculpture out of a wine rack and a fish jug. Chose random tat for each other from a charity shop. May not use the fish jug cos have googled it and seen that it’s on eBay for £30 (paid £1.50!!). DD obviously has an eye Smile

Stickerrocks · 02/06/2018 19:49

Blimey, I didn't realise that the iGCSEs were out 9 days before the rest of us. Now I have 2 dates to get stressed about - yours & ours.

DD's school will only release the results to the DC in the sports hall between 10-12 on 23rd. Alternatively they can be posted, but only if pre-arranged with an SAE. Otherwise the DC can't get their results until the school reopens in September, which means they can't enrol at college. One friend had booked a two week holiday crossing 23rd and enrolment days and rapidly changed it to a Christmas cruise instead. The local 6th forms are adamant that the DC must enrol on the allocated day in person.

hmc I'm slightly paranoid about our first choice, as they have a few days after the taster day in July to confirm they've accepted a place again, but we're going away on a cruise straight afterwards with limited WiFi. I hope their system doesn't have issues like TBS or Visa!

Stickerrocks · 02/06/2018 19:50

TSB not TBS. Loving the thought of the fish jug. My nan had something similar.

sandybayley · 02/06/2018 20:01

@Stickerrocks - iGCSEs are out on the 23rd, same as GCSEs. I think the earlier date mentioned was far grade boundaries to be published.

DS1 will go into school to get his results but the school will also publish them online (parent portal) so I can see without him having to contact him.

Stickerrocks · 02/06/2018 20:06

Phew. I can't cope with any more stress! I've booked 23rd off work but I'm not sure if I will be allowed in or will have to wait in the car. I know DD will cry which ever way they go.

Prom shoes from earlier: have you tried Schuh?

The Cambridge igcse results and Add Maths results are out on the 16th August. All others are on the 23rd.

We have been told that we will be given log in details for accessing results plus I think you can collect results on the 23rd from School.

In addition to the subjects mentioned English igcse for us is also 9-1. (Edexcel).
