This thread is a jolly good reminder that DD really ought to get on with the revision. She's been in four different drama performances in as many months (which was sort of fine when she was applying for A-level Theatre, but she's since changed her mind!).

I can't decide whether she's admirably calm about it or simply oblivious to how close the GCSEs are by now.

Oddsocks15 · 27/03/2018 19:20

Ssssh don’t tell my DD but had email conversation with HoEnglish, seems her low grade is due to timing issues. She is going to given some practice papers to do and take into school over booster sessions....

Sixth form deadline has been extended from last Friday. DD says new deadline was today but friends in real life tell me new deadline was yesterday. Either way she hasn’t handed in form. When she does speak to me she says she still wants to go to Sixth Form Confused

Sostenueto · 27/03/2018 19:44

Well safely enclosed in hospital ward. Thank you all for your kind wishes. I will try and drop in if I can but I will only be gone a week. No doubt it will take me a week to catch up! Dgd I formed me there's 35 days to first exam. Shock I will be so relieved as will all of you and all our DC when it is all over. All the best to all of youFlowers

Stickerrocks · 27/03/2018 20:20

Sos get well soon.

I know I've been out of the loop for a few days as his has dropped out of my threads I'm on. Where to start. My mum & dad went on holiday to celebrate a milestone birthday. Unfortunately mum had a heart attack overnight, but didn't want to cause a fuss, so she made Dad drive her home. I didn't get the full story, but managed to arrange a doctor's appointment for her as soon as she arrived home. Meanwhile I bought a car, won a case of beer and took DD to a belated birthday gig. DH called me to say Mum had been admitted to hospital. Hence this morning I drove 200 miles, went straight to the hospital, sang happy birthday, then sat down to discuss options for heart surgery later this week. Now nudging DD from afar & relying on chums to get her from after school classes. Hoping you lot will keep me sane.

Wow! Stickerrocks, you've really been through the mill. You must have had a terrible scare with your DM. I hope the surgery goes well. I'll be thinking of you.

mmzz · 27/03/2018 20:38

Currently sitting in the local town hall at a Duke of Edinburgh awards evening. Is it ok to say I'm finding it a bit boring?

BlueBelle123 · 27/03/2018 21:04

Gosh stickerrocks you've only been gone a couple of days.......really hope your DM is OK............did the beer come with the car!

Good news oddsocks about the english

Stickerrocks · 27/03/2018 21:18

Bluebelle I think booze related offers are unethical as a marketing ploy after Ant & Dec!

mmzz boredom is perfectly acceptable, as it encourages you to take your revision planning to a whole new level.

Home is 200 miles away & I didn't realise I'd be staying. Shopping trip tomorrow to buy essentials/clothes - damn shame!

Timing issues - DD had to do an English mock after school tonight to catch up after hospital visits. She missed out an entire 16 mark Q. I always suggest answering in proportion to the marks and time each Q carefully, but I could be talking to myself.

The more I read this thread, the more disappointed I am that DD is without a musical/dance/ drama bone in her body. I would love to see her up on stage doing so etching requiring more talent than a welcome speech for new year 7 parents.

OP posts:
Stickerrocks · 27/03/2018 21:23

So etching? Something!

Have you got siblings, Stickerrocks?
Anything to do with the heart sounds scary and it's at times like this that having siblings makes a difference, even if you usually feel that you've got little in common.

No more revision planning for me. DS has all the tools and just needs to put in the hours now.

Teenmum60 · 27/03/2018 21:26

Stickerrocks - Hope your DM is OK - how scary for you!
Sost - Hope your surgery goes well.
Oddsocks - Good news about English - what a nightmare you are having (but I think your not the only one with lots of teens demanding to be left to it).
We loved Hamilton ...

JufusMum · 27/03/2018 21:29

Noble she is currently on a 4 from mocks, but would like a 6. Supply teacher is not even a maths teacher so it's not exactly great. X

mmzz · 27/03/2018 21:35

Are you having an operation tomorrow, Sost? Good luck with it.

mmzz · 27/03/2018 21:37

Has anyone else had a school report recently? DS will have one this week. Not sure what the point is so close to the exams?

Teenmum60 · 27/03/2018 21:49

@mmzz @Sost - not sure why I said surgery - perhaps word association with hospital !
DD had a report in February after mocks - but all it stated was mock results plus what level she was working at in class.

Stickerrocks · 27/03/2018 22:04

A wonderful DB, but far too many life threatening family issues of his own to be able to dump too much on him. DF is of his generation (ie. proud that he managed to do soup for lunch and coped with a supermarket earlier)

OP posts:
mmzz · 27/03/2018 22:04

@Sost in my mind, you are having a knee operation tomorrow. I've just made it up based on nothing except you're in for a few days, but I'm deeply sympathetic as a result!

mmzz · 27/03/2018 22:06

How serious is it, stickerrocks? Our maybe they don't know yet?

Oddsocks15 · 27/03/2018 22:40

stickerrocks When DD was communicating with me, she knew in theory to spend roughly a minute per mark on the questions. Clearly that has gone haywire!

teen so glad this thread is here, keeping me sane as I feel very alone with this. All my friends in real life have DC that talk to them!

mmzz DD had a report this week, not really sure of the point of it, has done nothing to reassure me with my silent DD.

Stickerrocks · 27/03/2018 22:52

To be blunt, the surgeon said they need to operate soon or she will have another cardiac arrest (which she had on the operating g table the last time she had heart surgery, which is why she is so anxious.) She has had a quadruple bypass before.

mmzz I prefer to think of sost having something far more erudite, so she can waft around and lay on a chaise with DGD bringing her iced tea and puppy running in with the daily newspaper. Knee surgery sounds far too snip, stitch & off you go. You can't waft with crutches!

OP posts:
Stickerrocks · 27/03/2018 22:55

I need you all. A few of my chums will only chat about exam stuff if I'll give their DC a freebie exam technique session. They assume DD will get straight grade 9s and huff & puff if I say she is getting 5s & 6s for some papers.

Teenmum60 · 27/03/2018 23:46

@Oddsocks15 Don't feel alone - I assure you that there are lots of parent(s) in the same situation ....DD and I had words about a week ago and its that awkward stage where the teens push the boundaries because they are not children and feel that they want/need to make the decisions...but they don't have our wisdom in order to make balanced decisions....or cannot see that we are concerned because we care.

I think our children feel our pressure and they in turn feel under pressure - I try a little nudge but end up with a huge push ... .can you (somehow )email the school and let them know DD is still considering staying on but the application maybe a little late because she is worrying about results?

I find teenage behaviour so irrational - I don't have a clue what results DD will achieve (honestly- its a lottery) - I just hope she has a smile on her face on 23/8.

Oddsocks15 · 28/03/2018 07:43

Aww bless you stickerrocks we are here for you unconditionally Flowers Wine Brew Cake Bear Hope your DM is ok, what an anxious time for you

teen irrational behaviour is an accurate description of DD! I did email Ho6th form last week without her knowledge about her 6th form application but she still hasn’t handed it in and now way passed the deadline. School must think I’m one of “those” parents at the moment.... I’m with you on the no idea how things will turn out on results day

Too early for Wine ?
