Teenmum, we decided on a Spring half term holiday rather than Easter or Summer half term because I just could not see DS working while anyone else was doing anything remotely fun!

androbbob · 02/04/2018 11:58

Afternoon - lost this thread on No. 4 - not going to try and catch up on that one, but will read all of No.5!

DD in the kitchen starting revision - 2nd week of easter hols - first week was spent in Portugal at her brothers football tournament, so we are all tanned and rested! She has made a revision planner for this week - 2 hour session in school tomorrow and a four hour session in school on Thursday, so getting into the swing of it. Seems focused (even in her pyjamas!)> I am making drinks and snacks to keep her going!

Off to catch up with thread.

Teenmum60 · 02/04/2018 12:01

mmzz - It would just me and DD for the most of the week with her friends coming on the Monday (Bank holiday) and leaving on the Tuesday ...I work from home anyhow (although travel a lot), so it doesn't matter where I am as long as I have wifi. I just thought it would be nice to be away from the house, be in (hopefully) a peaceful setting but also be able to go out for bike rides/relax in spa/swim in pool....all on our doorstep....(hopefully take stress away from revising).

mmzz · 02/04/2018 12:29

If you are going to be there, and working when she is working, then i can see how it would work. i was thinking you and the rest of the family would be going out to have fun whilst your DD sits alone.
Maybe you should go for it. The spas etc would be relaxing and fresh air definitely helps with sleep and therefore being fit to study.

JufusMum · 02/04/2018 12:34

Solid chemistry revision all day today with a break for an MRI scan at the hospital.

Stickerrocks · 02/04/2018 13:45

teen we went away in October a couple of weeks before mocks. It was a lovely break, but we did establish that a hot tub and revision don't mix!

It's a big enough struggle this week. She got up & fainted earluer, but i've had enough of pussy footing around, because she has to go to work for the next couple of days. I've been upstairs to remind DD that if she will be completely happy in 10 weeks time that spending hours online was worthwhile, to go ahead, but if she thinks revision would gave been more helpful, to get started now.

Stickerrocks, she fainted?!

Stickerrocks · 02/04/2018 14:06

Yes. Another thing to add to the list for her next doctor's appt. There was a thump upstairs, but she was upright by the time we got there. She looked wan & pathetic for about 5 seconds, then came downstairs and ate some Easter egg.

Jufus hope MRI goes OK DS had one recently they have to stay still for a very long time and its very noisy!

Stickerrocks hope the fainting isn't anything to worry about

Teenmum the thought of spending a week at Centre parks whilst DS studies and I read and generally chill before doing a little bit of cycling or spalshing in the pool sounds heaven, I think its a really good idea provided you are located in a quite spot, although I have never actually been to Centre Parks!

HesMyLobster · 02/04/2018 14:33

Teenmum I agree - it sounds lovely, wish I could do the same with dd!

Stick I have a fainter - DD has spent the past year or so fainting fairly regularly - it's been put down to low blood pressure and slight anaemia which is apparently very common in girls their age.

mmzz · 02/04/2018 14:37

Stickerrocks and Jufus, can i just say i really admire how matter of fact you are both being. If either of my DC were ill with anything more than a bad cold, I'd fall to pieces (which I know wouldn't be of any use to anyone, but I wouldn't be able to help it). I really admire your strength.

KingscoteStaff · 02/04/2018 14:56

Here here - strength to the mums and, via them, to the DC.

Teenmum60 · 02/04/2018 15:25

Jufus - Hope DD's MRI scan goes OK...
Stickerrocks - Hope your DD's health improves - how's your DM?

I'm still sat on the fence with CP...think it would actually be good for both of us and take away some stress from exams - just envisage being placed in a lodge next door to early rising noisy toddlers though!

LooseAtTheSeams · 02/04/2018 16:00

Jufus and Stickerrocks hope everything’s OK with your dcs. Flowers
mmzz I think you have a very good solution to the 22 hour problem!

BlueBelle123 · 02/04/2018 16:20

Teen surely if someone is at CP they won't be spending all their time in their lodge but using the facilities and if toddlers hopefully only at lodge for afternoon naps! I would go for it I know I would given half a chance!

AlexanderHamilton · 02/04/2018 16:21

Did & dh will be living on a caravan site throughout GCSES!

BlueBelle123 · 02/04/2018 16:29

Are you having work to your house or is it to ensure she can get there each day, as you live quite a distance from school.........don't feel like you have to answer I'm just speculating.....being nosey

JufusMum · 02/04/2018 16:31

Thanks all. DD was just having a check up MRI scan on her knee ( dislocated it in dancing last June). DD currently having a meltdown about having no motivation and yelling at me/crying in her bed. Day one of the revision schedule. Glad I'm going back to work tomorrow!

AlexanderHamilton · 02/04/2018 16:36

It’s to make sure she’s on time for any 9am start exams. My parents have a touring caravan so they are going to site it near school for us.

BlueBelle123 · 02/04/2018 16:42

I've agreed to drive DS in for his 9 am exams as it means he can get up an hour later than if he gets the bus.........but we have quite an old car so I think I had better book it in for a service!

LooseAtTheSeams · 02/04/2018 16:43

Jufus ouch! To the knee and the meltdown!
DS revised on Saturday and at his grandparents yesterday so is taking a rest break today. I’ve stuck his revision timetable up in the kitchen but he can change it how he wants.

Stickerrocks · 02/04/2018 17:00

We have quite a robust attitude, whereas my parents virtually have named chairs at their local surgery! I think it was low blood sugar, as Easter egg helped. Meanwhile Mum's surgery was on then off for today, but we're hopeful it could take place tomorrow.

BiL has reminded DD that time is ticking away. He has spent the weekend tutoring the DC of a famous person, so I hope she will listen to him. He did offer her his RE notes, but celeb child was doing Buddhism not Islam.

I sympathise mmzz DS was commenting that every teacher thinks their s is the only gcse they are taking. For maths strugglers that would be helpful but from a few things you be mentioned it sounds like HOD isn’t able to differentiate. I would push for doing second half of the papers but you know teacher and your dc best. DS trying hard but does get tired - tho I’ve just realised that an inability to struggle though a paper this afternoon may have been more due to the two cans of cider at family lunch :) I don’t think it occurred to him it may have an impact !!

Oratory1 · 02/04/2018 18:57

Best wishes for those with additional complications to deal with
