Anyone know much about these from previous years? How many girls are in the list and do they move much? Thanks

PHS will be the same as WHS so suspect already liable. I can't imagine the Waiting Lists will move much at all now unless people have sudden moves away from London. DD is going to WHS and has already been to an induction afternoon and we have have loads of paperwork to fill in. it would get very confusing if you were holding onto loads of places having paid deposits at them all! Although if you can afford to pay lots of deposits maybe you don't worry about that sort of thing!
I haven't heard of any WL movement at all at PHS but there was loads at WHS- I think they were super cautious this year in the number of places they offered initially.

JuliaRobbers · 18/05/2018 19:25

I believe user is right & first term fee liability is already there even though not due. I don't think it will move unless someone is holding multiple places & decides to let one go in the end. But that will mean double fees for whoever takes that place too.Confused

Is it true WHS are going to five forms this Sept hence why they’ve offered to lots on waitlist?

tvfriendagain · 18/05/2018 20:07

No- 4 forms I think

tvfriendagain · 18/05/2018 20:08

100 in year I think- so 4 forms?

FootprintsinSand · 21/05/2018 14:39

Just incase anyone is still waiting for LEH or haven't heard .... the school have added two extra forms for this coming September entry - taking them from 4 to 6 forms.

Sunshine5050 · 22/05/2018 19:55

Yes I heard LEH over offered so have extended to 6 classes but at the same time are pleased they can fill 6 classes with the entry level they require. Also Hampton had 120 accept before the closing date so have added another class making 7. Its interesting that KGS had the number they wanted to accept this year, 112ish, instead of the 120-130 of past 2 years. It will be tricky for applicants in 2019 with Hampton & LEH and sounds like Putney High offering even fewer places than this year for fear of over offering.

montenotte · 23/05/2018 08:13

KGS has a very full current yr7 - 25/26 per class vs (x5) the usual 22/23. They were much more conservative with their offers this year to keep the numbers down to the preferred 110-115.

Itisonlyhearsay · 23/05/2018 11:30

Yes, KGS did 'exploding offers' this year to make sure. I would be annoyed with a class size of 25, so the right thing to go (IMO) when you have a small site and can't add classes

jeanne16 · 23/05/2018 12:36

Huge year groups have other issues too such as making it harder for pupils to make sports teams or school plays. I would not be happy with 6 forms instead of 4.

SWLondonGirl · 23/05/2018 13:09

LEH are keeping the form sizes at around 22/23 and the school has enormous capacity to accommodate any extra girls given the size of the School’s campus. A year group of c130 at LEH is really not going to feel that much different to a year group of c100 in my opinion and I wouldn’t describe 130 as a huge year group in the context of London secondary schools anyway.

montenotte · 23/05/2018 15:45

I would be annoyed with a class size of 25 - they are not always taught as a form, teaching groups are smaller.

AnotherNewt · 24/05/2018 08:46

I think exploding offers are wrong. I wouid always go for a school which honours the offers it makes. It is an important part of the school's ethos for me. (And of course, the vast majority of schools run their admissions to a standard that means the practice isn't needed).

25 is a normal class size for a central London private secondary.

expat96 · 24/05/2018 13:46

25 is a normal class size for a central London private secondary.

We just went through the process. All of the six schools we applied to targeted forms of 20-22.

AnotherNewt · 24/05/2018 18:33

Yes, I can only speak for the schools I know. Which is, for various reasons, quite a few. But not exhaustive.

Roseredvelvet · 25/05/2018 16:41

I have just received an email from PHS stating that the admissions process will be finalising soon & waitlist places may come up until September, am I still interested!

tvfriendagain · 25/05/2018 16:50

We got that email as well! Guess it makes sense for them just to have people who are still interested? I was tempted to keep DD on the list just to see if she ever did get a place but I told them to take her off- got a nice email in return!

SodTheGreenfly · 27/05/2018 10:49

There is often still movement. Job offers overseas for parents and other parents letting places go as wl offers arise from LMS / Greycoat. 1/2 parents seem to jump off PHS/WHS in July/early September as a place frees at one of the selective states.

LEH told me they are running 6x 25 entry classes so a year group rise of almost 50% with 150 girls for the first time ever which will cause pressure on sports teams, drama etc.

Thisisconfusing · 02/06/2018 21:15

Not necessarily for sport . The girls are currently stretched a bit thinly across a number of sports with many girls competing across a number of sports until they start to specialise. There is definitely capacity for more lacrosse players, rowers ( LEH has half the number in its rowing squads to SHS ), athletics , cross country etc - sometimes the sporty girls have to fill in spaces if they are short . Netball is more competitive at first for spaces in the higher teams because many girls already play but if you have a daughter who is up for the challenge of lax , rowing etc then LEH are actually pretty good at giving team spaces to those that turn up to practices not just the really sporty girls. I think drama might be more of a bun fight for good parts but there are simply lots of productions over the year ( I lose track ) so the opportunities are there. I suspect that they will look at the productions in year 7 and 8 and Rejig things. LEH keeps the girls very busy - I don’t think it will be a massive issue. If anything my DD is too busy!!
