Its 2018....countdown to 1st March secondary school allocations!

Well two months down and two to go to 1st March. I have been fairly chilled since applications were submitted however now that 2018 is here it is creeping into my thoughts more frequently.

We are truly lucky to live in a town with very good secondary schools but I know DD would be heartbroken if she didn't get her first choice (a top 10 non selective girls school).

Realistically we should be virtually sure of a place as if we don't qualify on distance within our feeder school group then she should get a sports aptitude place (she score 10 percentage points higher than the required score for the last 3 years). However a part of me is still nervous as I imagine what if all 200 girls taking the aptitude test got amazing scores too. Logically I know this isn't the case as other girls at her school score 20-25 marks lower than DD but there are only 9 places available so the margin of error is small.

Anyone else beginning to get jittery? Please tell me I'm not alone.

In our county you are automatically added to waiting list for any school you listed higher than the school you were allocated but don't know if that is the same everywhere.

I'll have to see if I can find it on web site then

I applied for an out of county school roo so no idea what happens with that

Hersetta427 · 12/02/2018 11:51

How is everyone this week?

I'm trying not to actively think about it. When it pops into my head I feel physically sick.

greathat · 12/02/2018 17:24

Get on those waiting lists fast if no luck! There's always a lot of movement

Gileswithachainsaw · 13/02/2018 13:26

Anyone else got their reminder emails?

I wish they wouldnt do that I immediately think they are emailing me to tell me of a problem or that I failed to submit or something

Hersetta427 · 13/02/2018 18:30

Nope, no reminder emails here (not yet at least).

I really should stop thinking about it - every time i do i get butterflies in my tummy.

No reminder email yet in Hampshire.

Yesterday I took DS on the bus route he'll use if he gets school choice 1. To be fair he can can also walk or use his bike but I think it's eased his nerves knowing what bus to take.

Gileswithachainsaw · 13/02/2018 18:37

Yes it makes me feel somewhat nauseous.

I'm not sure how I'm going to make it through the next 2 weeks

EightiesHairdo · 13/02/2018 20:09

No reminder emails here (Sutton)
I had the day off work today and I just kept on thinking about this. I keep running through the application process from last October in my head over and over just hoping I've made the right choices.

Gileswithachainsaw · 13/02/2018 20:12

Dd has informed me she changed her mind over the local choices Hmm

So 1st choice still correct but the two I put last she would have preferred the other way round most likely will get It anyway but now I've gotta hope we don't get the other one while we wait on first choice waiting list

MedusaBadHairDay · 13/02/2018 21:07

Hi Giles, I remember you from a previous waiting game thread back in October last year - good luck to you and your daughter, I hope things fall into place this time

Gileswithachainsaw · 13/02/2018 21:09

Thanks Grin

Two kids twice the stress. Always something to have to worry about...

Allocations, 11 plus, more allocations....

MedusaBadHairDay · 13/02/2018 21:13

This is my second high school stressful application - then I get a break for 5 years - everything will have changed and be topsy turvey by then Confused or the spell check alternative of tipsy turkey Grin

MedusaBadHairDay · 13/02/2018 21:14

We don’t get reminder emails - that just sounds awful, another unnecessary torture. I keep on checking that I filled in the form correctly, forever doubting that things will work out as they should.

I wanna check what order I put things in but I'm a bit worried if i press "make am application" it will wipe what I've done or something Blush

MedusaBadHairDay · 13/02/2018 21:42

Will you get your result midnight on the 1st March? I got my eldest’s results online then, with an email around 4am 2 years ago - am hoping things are the same this time.

Gileswithachainsaw · 13/02/2018 21:44

2pm Shock

MedusaBadHairDay · 13/02/2018 21:47

Oh god

Hersetta427 · 13/02/2018 22:15

After 3pm here. It's like torture. I certainly won't be able to work that day.

OP posts:
MedusaBadHairDay · 14/02/2018 06:35

Why so late in the day? I would struggle with that, it just seems so unnecessary.

Gileswithachainsaw · 14/02/2018 08:51

They like to torture us.

Probably the same.reason the primary allocations day all starts around half term.

So you can't call anyone

meditrina · 14/02/2018 09:07

"Why so late in the day? I would struggle with that, it just seems so unnecessary.

For the pan-London/Surrey unified system it's 5pm. And it's done deliberately, with the wellbeing of their staff in mind. Because then everyone has to wait overnight, and hopefully calm down a bit before hitting the phone (maybe even reading up on their situation and finding at least some of the options for what next before calling)

My email said that they automatically add you to waiting list of schools higher up on your list providing they qualify.

Does that mean all the schools (there are going to be 4 or probably 5) above the school we are getting (One of which I will remove her from as I don't want to move dd twice)

And how do they determine "qualify"

No 1 we would have qualified for under distance in previous years but only just.

2 3 and 4 we stood no chance but again only would have been the last distabce criteria anyway and ones out of county. Neither came out this far but had nothing to lose by listing nor being on the waiting list.

5 is the one where they come out this far sometimes but I'm taking her off list.

So do I take from that they'd list me on all or none of those lists?
