Anyone going for a GSCE or A level re-mark/clerical check 2017?

Ds2 did one GSCE this year - they take RE a year early. To his surprise and delight he received a B when he was expecting a pass. To our further surprise he was one UMS mark off an A, which is only half a raw mark (I think - may have got it the wrong way round). So we went for a remark, at his request. He said he would almost relieved if he went down a few marks and didn't feel he had missed out on a A by a hairsbreadth. Ds2 has ASD and terrible at writing - he has a scribe so that's why it is so amazing he has turned out to be good at dictating his thoughts.

I went through this with two GSCEs last year with my year 11 and there was only a tiny change in one of his remarked papers (and the bad grades didn't change), so I am really not expecting anything, but just in case there is anyone out there waiting for an remark. Ds2 is Edexcel....

We've just had my DS GCSE Eng Lit paper review back and nothing has changed. However as I understand it no remark is carried out, they just check the scores have been added up properly etc.

Where do you go from here?

DD is 5 UMS (about 3-4 marks) off a B in Government and Politics A level - do you think it's worth a review? She definitely thought she'd done better (especially on paper 2) and has been predicted A/B all the way through with A's on essays in school.
Exams office is closed now till the 7th so can't ask there yet!

still waiting for news here

Decided today to go for a remark in Eng lit GCSE for ds4, very close to the 7 boundary and his teacher thinks it is a sensible idea.
2 of my A level students had remarks, one was 1 mark off an A, the other 2 off a B, neither have gone up.

knittingwithnettles · 30/08/2017 22:38

Tiggy the school can in final event ask for the scripts back and then judge for themselves if marking is completely unfair (which is what Edexcel are now
pre-empting by making scripts available in advance to the school) Is that what is meant by an appeal?

Rosie I am sorry about your students who were so near the boundary, that must be very frustrating for them/hope it didn't affect their uni offers.

well, sad to say there is no change to Ds2's RE mark. Still a B, and still one mark off an ASmile

At least we tried! He is fine with a B though.

We've requested English lit igcse as the mark on one particular paper was well below any mock/practice questions and the others, and dd can't think of any reason why her answers were so out of line. I'm not optimistic it will change but we'll see.

whiteroseredrose · 02/09/2017 16:39

DS is under the impression that you can request scripts back to have a look at without charge. You only pay if you ask for a remark. Is he right?

He got a 88 UMS in one of his AS Maths papers but he thought he'd done better than that and apparently this counts towards his A Level grade. It's still an A so it seems a bit daft but he wants to know where he went wrong.

Wondering if school will laugh at us?!

teta · 03/09/2017 10:51

Scripts cost £15 for A levels, not sure about Gcse.

LIZS · 03/09/2017 10:53

Edexcel were offering free return of scripts.

teta · 03/09/2017 10:54

Aqa were not!

errorofjudgement · 06/09/2017 19:17

Still waiting for news here though it's only been 2 weeks. I'm not sure how long we should expect a GCSE review to take.

Cafeconleche · 06/09/2017 19:51

Same here error. 2 x GCSEs went in for review on 25 August. Still no word back. I don't know if that's a good or bad sign Confused

Horsemad · 06/09/2017 19:57

DS got a B in History but there was no breakdown of marks shown, so no idea how close he might have been to an A.

This was with AQA. Not sure whether to get his paper checked...

Allthebestnamesareused · 06/09/2017 20:03

I think they generally do all the A level remarks first because it may have bearing on uni places before they go on to gcse ones.

teta · 07/09/2017 06:46

We have had a second A level paper go up to a A - by 8 marks!
This was Maths and according to dd's teacher Maths very rarely changes. It just goes to show how dodgy the marking was this year. This has meant that Dd didn't get a place on her course and has been forced to have a gap year.

Janeways · 07/09/2017 07:03

We've had both subjects we requested go up by a grade. The history went from B to A - DS's two lowest scoring papers went in for review. One paper had no change and the other went up 9 marks. English Language was also requested and again, one paper no change and the other up by 3 for an A*. I'm equal parts delighted and despairing.

Horsemad · 07/09/2017 07:12

@Janeways which board was the History paper please?

hugoagogo · 07/09/2017 07:12

ds had an Alevel paper remarked because he was only one ums off a B. The paper came back about 12 marks down! Only just giving him the same overall grade.
Horribly stressful and not worth it.

Horsemad · 07/09/2017 07:13

OMG hugo! That's awful.

MamOfFrankie · 07/09/2017 07:17

A few students from my school requested remarks for English and we have just got the first batch back - 2 of the 3 went up and 1 student stayed the same. If your DC is only one or two marks off it might be worth the remark because the chance of them losing enough marks to go down a grade is unlikely.

hugoagogo · 07/09/2017 07:22

It certainly wasn't explained properly to ds that he could also lose marks and even his place at university. Overall though we are ok about it now. He still has the same A levels and because they did change the mark on that paper I got my money back. Grin

In hindsight I think we should take the mark we are given, there will probably be just as many who are a little bit jammy as there are people who just miss out.

Janeways · 07/09/2017 07:24

History was ocr gcse and Eng Lang was cambridge igcse
