Triple/Double Science

Hello! Sorry about username - I'm ever so new.
My daughter's school has just announced that it will no longer be offering the triple science GCSE. She's about to enter year 10 and had thought she would be doing the triple.
The school says that it's to make sure that they get good grades and that 6th forms don't ask for triple and universities don't look at GCSE's. I'm not convinced by this at all. If a university is looking at offering a place to a student surely the one who has done the individual sciences will look better than those just doing a combined science. And I know that they do look at GCSEs as my bosses daughter couldn't do medicine because she didn't get an A* for chemistry GCSE.
However I'm well aware that education changes rapidly these days so my information may be outdated. So I guess does I would like to know your thoughts. Does it matter if they only do the double? Would it be harder to do the science A-Levels if they only do the double at GCSE? Do universities now not care about GCSEs?
Thank you so much!

So a State school albeit a faith one. You see my dcs were told exactly the same - they could get 8s and 9's but they'd have to do independent study, read around the subject and keep up to date - they have been told that in science, geography and English.....I wonder if kids at independent schools are being asked to figure out what it takes to get to a level 8 or 9 by themselves - I doubt it!

If the children at sostenuto's school are being expected to do 3 GSCEs in the time normally needed for 2 it's hardly surprising that they are going to have to do independent work in order to cover everything.

My older daughter did separate sciences a few years ago, and the 3rd science counted as an option and was given proper time in the timetable.

The children at our school are expected to do triple in the same teaching hours as double - it's apparently not that uncommon. Triple science given proper teaching time for 3 GCSEs is no big deal - if you enjoy it do it.

Yes that is it, if they enjoy it. But the trouble is the stress they are under if a high achiever is sometimes forgotten. Getting those 8 s and 9 s (especially the 9 which is only going to the top 2%,) is horrendous. We know lower grades are under stress too, especially those on the border of 4/5. My gdd although high achiever worries constantly and it doesn't help if a teacher says if you don't do well in mocks you may be put down to double which just an awful thing to say to an already stressed cohort.
