I can't find a new thread, moving on from the old full one, so I thought I would create one (please tell me if I'm wrong!)

Last night ds stayed up till 4.30am doing his biology coursework Shock

This time the tsunami affect didn't work and he left it far too late to do a reasonable job. Which is a bloody shame because he wants to do biology A level and he has done so well in his other controlled assessments.

I wait with bated breath to find out his mark

Oh well, thank God for half term!!

We're counting down here. DD1 had about 5 hours' worth of homework to do over the weekend, but at least she is not getting set massive stuff for the next day. Because the school realise that would be counterproductive. Big fat sympathy to you Laniakea.

Laniakea · 03/05/2017 10:29

she did the maths, chemistry and the first half of English in the end - she'll do French on the train & says Eng teacher should be okay. Definitely too much though.

Glad to hear they coped okay with exam mishaps (poor kids who didn't).

DD has day of mocks again today - chem, another English, something else I've lost track tbh. Wish they'd lock her in a room & force feed her French (or history).

Merrylegs · 03/05/2017 19:51

Oh I was looking for a thread -hooray.

Dd's first exam tomorrow -German, then Eng Lang on Fri. She's been revising but is not 'exam clever' (eg timing) so fingers crossed she keeps it together. It's going to be a long slog - she goes right through til June 22nd.

Good luck to all!

teddygirlonce · 03/05/2017 20:17

Wow that's a long slog @Merrylegs Hmm - your poor DD :-(. DS has been putting in about four hours a day for what seems like forever. Think he's in danger of peaking too soon. It seems like he's been revising, one way or another, since November 2016. And still it's seven-eight weeks until it's all over.

cantkeepawayforever · 03/05/2017 20:33

DS started today, finishes June 21st...

AtiaoftheJulii · 03/05/2017 20:39

Ds starts 18th May and finishes 21st June. Apart from half term he only has two non-exam days, one on 19th, one near the end. Seems more concentrated than my two older daughters' schedules, they definitely had more gaps.

AtiaoftheJulii · 03/05/2017 20:40

How did today's go can't?

cantkeepawayforever · 03/05/2017 20:46

Middling. Found it hard to get into it properly because it's an outlier, so still has normal lessons etc the rest of the time.

cantkeepawayforever · 03/05/2017 20:48

'Live' speaking paper in a fairly rare language.

Laniakea · 03/05/2017 20:57

dd is May 16th - June 16th with four non exam days (plus half term), six days with two exams & one with three.

GiraffeorOcelot · 03/05/2017 21:07

DS is the same as Lanieka's DD. 16th May to 16th June with 4 non exam days. No days with 3 exams though thankfully.

Very true draylon!

Dd has started already with her two 5 hour art exams, she was pleased with her work. The rest start on May 16th and go through to 23rd June. She's OK at the moment, stress under the surface but she seems to be coping. She's very worried about English lit, especially poetry as she struggles (very linear thinker with dyspraxia, much better at the math /science based subjects.)

All ready for the home run? I don't feel ready. I haven't been able to give her much support lately due to my own health but she's been buckling down and working hard. Just got to get through them now.

How are your dcs all coping at the moment?

Two exams down (5 if you count MFL orals and Drama performance). The Drama has been very time consuming and tiring, so hope that more revision will now actually take place.

Dancergirl · 04/05/2017 14:31

Hope exams have been going well for those who have started.

Dd has had the Music creative task which went well she thinks, plus Spanish oral this week. She said she messed up one question but the rest was ok. Written exams start on 15th May for us.

They did another mock exam in Maths last week and dd was over the moon to get a good A! Maths has always been her weakest subject so she was obviously very happy with that. Hope she can pull it off in the real thing.

pasanda · 04/05/2017 14:52

Well done for the 'A' dancergirl's dd. A good confidence boost for her Smile

I can't get my head round the poetry at all! DS said there were 12 (or 15 -can't remember Blush) and he was going to learn 4 really well. I struggled to understand how that would help because what if none of those 4 came up?? He looked exasperated with me and couldn't be bothered to explain so I made a quick exit!!

He's gone from being hyped up to fed up with revision and slightly disengaged with it all again. I hope it's a blip because I was quite enjoying him having a good work ethic for once!

pasanda if he's doing AQA it is something like this. The poetry comes up in the second paper - part B & part C, it is B that they need to have learnt the poems for. In that part they are given a poem and they have to pick another one from the anthology cluster which they have studied (will be about 15 in all) to compare it to ... context/theme/devices/quotes etc ... so as long as they know enough of the anthology really well (I think dd is learning 6 but that's because in her cluster there are two that can only be compared to one each other and one that she just really likes) they will be fine. In section c they get two new poems to compare so don't need to.

DD is off timetable today for performing arts presentations & performances - hers went well apparently (got a crafty text at lunchtime). I'm glad it is over & doesn't need to be thought about again.

The A is fab Dancergirl ... I can go on at length about dd's maths woes Wink

Laniakea · 04/05/2017 15:09

In section c they get two new poems to compare so don't need to learn any for that.

Madhairday · 04/05/2017 15:10

Well done dancergirls dd - was that graded as a 7 or 8? It's good to have any confidence boosts at the moment to carry them through :)

Drayton, dd struggles with quotes etc too. She's the same as your ds in that she struggles with English in general (apart from creative writing which she flies in) but is predicted A* for RE which is hugely essay based. Different skills I guess.

Pasanda. hope your ds gets back in the zone soon. It is hard for them to carry it through in such an intense time.

Dancergirl · 04/05/2017 15:12

Thanks. mad their Maths is iGCSE so still the lettered grades.

lania what is your dd hoping to get for Maths?

Laniakea · 04/05/2017 15:14

she needs a 6, is predicted and secretly hoping for a 7 ... but since her marks can be anything between 30 and 65 out of 80 on each paper with no rhyme or reason I'll be opening a bottle if fizz if she gets the 6.
