Is it too soon to start a 1st March (secondary school allocation day) support thread?

DD has six good options on her CAF - we will be happy if she gets any of those six but there are no other local schools we would be happy for her to be allocated/offered Shock - and private schooling is not an option.

So just a bit nervous and already counting down the days until we find out which school she's been allocated (if at all).

Not sure when North Yorkshire online results are up. It says emails go out at 5pm

justgivemethepinot · 27/02/2017 21:22

Yes mrgrumpy usually because someone told them that someone's friends, dogs owners cousins daughter got a place that way Hmm. Sad but true.

ivechangedmyname123 · 27/02/2017 21:33

Good luck everyone don't think many will be getting much sleep tomorrow 😂

thenewaveragebear1983 · 27/02/2017 22:07

Teddy yes I think so. I know they've definitely received my application because the school rang me to check my details as I'd moved house. I have checked the website and it says Worcestershire council email to say the result so I will wait until Wednesday and if I don't hear then I will chase it up. I imagine they will be busy tomorrow! Thanks for your suggestions

SoulAccount · 27/02/2017 22:09

Teddygirl, you can ask to go on the waitumg list for schools that were lower down your waiting list. And since waiting lists are held in order of eligibility you may end up no word off, because as a rank outsider, you might not have been allocated a place in the first round anyway. Get straight on the list and you never know what might happen.

EVERYONE: remember there will be a big waiting list churn once the deadline for acceptances had been and gone, and then waiting list places will continue to move throughout the summer.

Accept whatever place is offered, make sure you are on the list for any school you prefer.

GOOD LUCK!

Remember: The vast majority of families get a first or second preference.

Good luck everyone lots of handholding tomorrow night.

So so worried but I will leave it up to fate - I really hope it is the first one as they have really good dyslexia/SEN support.

Trb17 fingers crossed for you. Report back when you've finished celebrating (only tears of joy for you on the first I am sure x)

justgivemethepinot · 27/02/2017 23:22

Yes good luck to all (ds included), hoping it all goes well Smile

Trb17 · 28/02/2017 06:09

Thanks YettiLegs11 fingers firmly crossed for you too... hope everyone gets happy news 🤞

MirandaWest · 28/02/2017 06:51

I can't remember what time we got the email with DS two years ago. Think it was during the morning but may have misremembered.

Sillysausages007 · 28/02/2017 11:58

Ho hum! Approximately 12.5 hours to go ..... (if the website sticks to its own timetable).

notsomanky · 28/02/2017 12:22

DS keeps asking when we will hear.

He really wants to go to the mixed sex school, rather than the same sex one his brother goes to.

I really want him to go to the mixed sex school too. He is still being assessed for ASD, and when I mentioned this to my eldest sons school they were not exactly welcoming, and suggested special school. Angry

MrGrumpy01 · 28/02/2017 12:27

I'm going to have to go through all this again in a couple of years time but with the added stress of finding somewhere suitable for my son with asd who academically is very bright it will just be all the other stuff involved.

Almost there.

notso really hope he gets the school you both want.

EndoplasmicReticulum · 28/02/2017 12:41

I'm sure I got an email in the morning last year, as we knew before the children got to school. It took me by surprise as I was expecting to wait until later.

Second child is this year, I'd be surprised if he didn't get our first choice as we are in catchment and his brother is already there, but you never know I suppose.

We only put down three as they are the only ones in reasonable distance that we'd have a chance of getting into - no point putting down the faith schools as we don't meet the criteria.

MirandaWest · 28/02/2017 12:51

Have found the email I got for DS - received it at 9:38am. Think they got given letters at school as well.

JustEatYourDinner · 28/02/2017 14:22

Its the final countdown du du du duuuu du du du du du...

JustEatYourDinner · 28/02/2017 14:23

Also,

justgivemethepinot · 28/02/2017 14:28

Wow, just checked out the uniform shops for first two choice schools.
It's expensive isn't it! I see I've been spoilt the last 7 years by buying from the supermarket!

Sillysausages007 · 28/02/2017 14:46

I've now got The Final Countdown going round my head ....

Nousernameforme · 28/02/2017 15:44

I'm hoping to switch DS from his senior school to the new stem and business college we should find out tomorrow but if we don't get it I don't know if there will be a sorry you are unsuccessful email

prh47bridge · 28/02/2017 15:59

I have our appeal documents ready already (long story) so at least I can submit them as soon as I get the notification and we can hopefully be one of the first cases heard

Just spotted this comment from JustEatYourDinner 9 days ago.

There is no advantage in getting your appeal in early. No appeals are heard until the deadline for appeals has passed. All appeals for a school are heard by the same panel who will not decide any of the appeals until they've heard all of them. All that matters is that you get your appeal in before the deadline.

MrGrumpy01 · 28/02/2017 16:18

Luckily my first choice school has a fairly low key uniform policy. Blazer, tie and jumper are official but it seems most other things are just standard.

Our 3rd choice is fully logo'd. The one school we visited the trousers alone were £15 a pair nearly.

justgivemethepinot · 28/02/2017 16:24

It's all the PE kit gubbins though, blimey, when I was at school it was polo shirt, shorts and optional netball skirt. Now it's a top for this, a hoody for that, different socks for various sports......!!

teddygirlonce · 28/02/2017 16:25

Some of the uniforms (the ones that can only be bought from one retailer) are really expensive, with the girls' ones costing more than the boys'!

I recall we spent about £300 on DS's uniform in Year 7 (and then he had to change to senior school uniform in Year 10 too).

justgivemethepinot · 28/02/2017 16:25

Ah shit I sound like my mother

Trb17 · 28/02/2017 16:27

Our 1st choice is fully logo'd. Even down to the PE socks! Knowing our DD she'll lose half of it too Shock

Just checked admissions website again.
1). To check login still works but mostly...
2). Desperately hoping they'd accidentally published the results early Grin

No luck!
