Hello All!

Inspired by another recent thread and last year's SW London Girls thread, I thought I would create a thread for those of us applying to London Day Schools. I have put independent as I think 11+ has passed for most of us. Anyone care to join?

I have a DD (10) who wants to sit CLGS and SPGS. Ideally she would like to be a music scholar so looking at schools with a strong music department that is a commutable distance.

No stalking of postie, just mad refreshing of this thread all day.

cdstandingnow · 01/02/2017 21:33

Thanks highclere. Those numbers sound very promising indeed for spgs!

amidawish · 02/02/2017 07:29

my post came at 1.15pm yesterday. nothing. arghhhh

TRL · 02/02/2017 10:21

Mae, if you're working today, no need to beat your DD home to the post ... nothing from LEH or Putney this morning ....

MaeMobley · 02/02/2017 10:39

Thank you TRL. Much appreciated x

Does anyone know anything about how the waiting list at Royal Russell operates? A friend of mine's daughter has been told she is on the waiting list.

How much movement is there? What are the realistic chances of her getting in?

Thanks

AveEldon · 02/02/2017 17:01

There will be movement. The boys schools haven't sent out their offers yet - they will go out around 9 Feb. People then have some time to accept/ decline
Some will be holding out for the state school offers - there will be more movement then as well

Thisdoesnotgeteasier · 03/02/2017 20:29

Kew House letters out today by the looks of it. A week before they had indicated they would be out.

Thisdoesnotgeteasier · 04/02/2017 09:02

Putney letters are out. DD got a straight no. She/we are fine with that. Had been expected and it was bottom of her list.

Good luck to others today. Hoping it will free up some waitlist places elsewhere!

meditrina · 04/02/2017 09:05

National offers day for state secondary schools is 1st March.

SWBelle · 04/02/2017 17:05

LEH and Putney offers out today.

MaeMobley · 04/02/2017 18:40

We are waiting on PHS & didn't get anything in the post today.

SWBelle · 04/02/2017 23:08

Sorry Maobley it may be worth checking with your Head. My DD and her school friends got letters from LEH and PHS today. Good luck to you.

MaeMobley · 05/02/2017 09:33

Thanks SWBelle.

Hi,
Hi,
I have never posted before and would really appreciate some advice. My daughter has received offers for both LEH and Putney seniors for this year and we really are at a loss as to what choice would be best for her. Any advice at all would be highly appreciated.
I hope lots of you have also had good news, I do know not everyone received their letters yet from my daughters school so if you are still waiting hopefully your letters should arrive tomorrow.
Thanks in advance x

amidawish · 05/02/2017 20:03

Hi Southwestmum80 and congrats, they are both great schools.
Which does she want?
Which is the easiest journey?
Do either offer her anything she can't get at the other (Lacrosse vs hockey for example?)

Keepcalmandcarryon2017 · 05/02/2017 20:06

Hi - I'd also appreciate advice on choosing between places secured at LEH, Surbiton High and Kingston Grammar (results not out until next Friday). Daughter is bright,all-rounder, v sporty. I don't want her to be in an overly pressurised environment as believe school should be enjoyable and not purely focused on league table results! Plus want down to earth girls and parents.
Thanks!

Peanutbutterrules · 05/02/2017 20:42

I've have several friends with girls at LEH. Some love it - but its very focussed on marks. One moved her dd as the pressure too much. Sounds like Surbiton or KGS might be more to your liking. Bright girls will do very well at all.

Southwestmum80 · 05/02/2017 20:51

hi amidawish, thank you for your response. She loves both, Putney easiest journey. She plays a lot of hockey but neither offer and both do lacrosse which she likes the idea of trying. She isn't a genius, she's bright and extremely hard working (I do not remember working this hard as a 10-year-old). We know both are great schools but we would prefer her to be healthy and happy above anything else so while I know both are fabulous schools academically we aren't league table driven. She is hugely into singing and would prefer the school which offers the most opportunity in that respect. Both schools and the girls within seemed friendly. If there are any pros/cons for either we would love to know..Thank you....

cdstandingnow · 05/02/2017 21:02

Hi Southwestmum. it sounds like Putney High would suit your daughter well. It is academic enough to ensure bright girls are engaged and challenged but seems very nuturing, warm, friendly. Strong on sports. LEH is of course more of a prestigious school if you are results driven and it has to be said their facilities and the campus is so much more beautiful but it doesn't sound to me that those are your priorities.

Not all Putney letters arrived on Saturday which must be frustrating for some parents but by Monday hopefully everyone will have some news. Friday will of course be the big day for London parents with the consortium schools etc reporting.

Southwestmum80 · 05/02/2017 21:21

cdstandingnow..The facilities at LEH are wonderful, we loved the space the girls have, but yes main priority for us is her happiness and mental health so thank you for your response very much appreciated.

highclere · 05/02/2017 21:26

If you're in Putney I'd take PHS. Plenty of girls do that journey but I know it can get very tiresome. If the journey is more finely balanced I'd be very tempted by LEH in your position. Music is outstanding and the Holles singers an amazing choir (so I understand). If your DD has an offer she is obviously bright enough to thrive there without feeling under pressure.

highclere · 05/02/2017 21:27

I meant "plenty of Putney girls do the LEH journey", sorry

Keepcalmandcarryon2017 · 05/02/2017 21:34

Thanks peanutbutterrules. I worry about too much pressure when ultimately all those schools would probably get similar results for a bright-enough girl. I have also heard girls themselves at leH saying how intensely pressured they are to ALWAYS be the best and that could be detrimental. Surbiton seems so friendly and upbeat. Kgs friendly in a quieter way. Tough if we have a choice! Do girls other than scholars get to shine at Surbiton? There can't be that many scholars surely?!

Southwestmum80 · 05/02/2017 21:41

highclere, thank you for your response. Its such a hard choice we are afraid of making the wrong one! so all responses are very helpful.
Does anyone know anything about the music department at PHS?
Thanks
