Continuing from the year 12 - 13 thread.

Good luck with continuing studies, uni open days, driving tests, etc.

Ooh, exciting! Does she know which one she wants to firm, HSM?

HSMMaCM · 17/02/2017 12:15

Teta of course it's your fault. Dd has a show next Monday. I'm waiting for the last minute demand. For the dress rehearsal I was supposed to rustle up a pair of footless shimmer tights, because she had torn a hole in hers. Not quite sure where she expected me to get a pair at 8pm on Sunday.

BTM she'd love to go to Reading, but knows the grades will be a stretch. She knows a couple of people at Bath Spa who were at her sixth form last year. This will be out next last minute dilemma.

If she goes to reading she can live at home Grin.

DD passed her driving theory this morning.SmileAnother little milestone passed.

Also, upthread we were talking about the meningitis jab. DD got hers done yesterday (the W and 3 other letters). Apparently the norm (here, anyway) is that they're specifically targeting freshers, so send out the letters post results day, so that anyone who isn't going to uni this year doesn't have to have it (eg gap year). She got it done anyway as she's quite needlephobic and wanted to get it out of the way while she was psyched up for the one we needed for the hols anyway. She got given a lollipop, we didn't. EnvyGrin

HSMMaCM · 17/02/2017 14:13

Errol well done on the test and jab. Lovely to know they're still young enough to be given lollipops. I remember dd being gutted the first time the dentist didn't give her a sticker.

Well done to Errols DD on test and jab!

Hope the drama exam went well, teta.

teta · 17/02/2017 19:25

It did thank you bigtillymint. She was asked about Stanislavsky rather than interpretation which she was very happy about!

Horsemad · 17/02/2017 21:53

Well done on the theory test and the jab!

ErrolTheDragon · 17/02/2017 23:51

She was asked about Stanislavsky rather than interpretation which she was very happy about!

Oh yeah, I mean what teenager doesn't want to be asked about Stanislavsky?ConfusedGrinwell done her, teta!

MirabelleTree · 18/02/2017 08:17

Well done to Errol's and Teta's DD's . Used to know re the injection, thanks .

namechange7711 · 18/02/2017 10:20

Sounds like lots of people have had good news this week. Long may it last!

teta · 18/02/2017 10:56

I know Errol but apparently being asked the meaning of pieces is much harder than just reciting the learning as she's good at remembering facts!
One of her pieces was a Shakespeare extract and she had to read the whole play. Some of them were trying to wing it by watching the movie and she was very disapproving Grin.Dd2 is trying to understand Shakespeare at the moment and failing but is getting a lot of help from dd1 who has now decided she really enjoys it ( but definitely didn't when younger).

We have dds final interview this week followed by a long weekend in Milan for the two girls plus dh.Ds1 has exams after half term so has to revise.and I am the 'revising' lady as dh doesn't do it.

ono40 · 18/02/2017 21:03

Just catching up after our half term break which was lovely - DS's 18th tomorrow so spending the day in London. Sounds like everyone is getting good news so well done!

Horse, my DS liked Leeds for History as well when he visited last June for a taster day and the lecturer who gave the talk inspired him for his EPQ subject.

I can't believe we have one more half term, then Easter and then literally only a couple of weeks before they break up, where has the time gone?

Horsemad · 18/02/2017 22:15

Happy Birthday to your DS for tomorrow ono, my DS is 18 this week too. He has mocks on his birthday! Grin

teta · 19/02/2017 14:46

ono40 and horsemad happy birthdays to your 🎊🎉 ds's.
I'm sure mocks won't put too much of a dampener on things Wink

ono40 · 20/02/2017 09:36

As someone with an end of May birthday myself which was always cursed by end of year exams, O-levels, A-levels and Finals, I can sympathise with your DS, Horse. I think it is cruel that they scheduled them after half term! Good luck to him and I hope he does well.

Teta, well done to your DD on the drama exam. When is her next interview?

LittleHo · 20/02/2017 11:34

dd's birthday will be during A Level exams. Poor thing.

Oh joy - it is mocks week.

JugglingFromHereToThere · 20/02/2017 13:44

We have half-term this week and are doing applicant days in Swansea (with an overnight stay nearby) and Sheffield (DD going on her own to this by train, partly as it's a re-visit so half a hope she may be able to find her way there and back OK!) DS has a friend over today and is going to theirs as return favour later in the week.
DD busy revising Geog today (glad her non-art subjects are getting a look in) for mocks when they go back.
They've been advised to make Uni decisions after mock results but I'm not sure how much influence they will have on our decisions. But worth giving them your best shot anyway - all good practice for the real thing, which as you say ono will creep up on us very soon I dare say. Anyway that timing will coincide quite well with finishing our Uni visits too.

Slightly alarmed mixed with excited to see some Uni accommodation is open for booking now, once you've made your firm choice (and insurance - though generally can only choose accommodation to go with the firm at this stage)

JugglingFromHereToThere · 20/02/2017 14:19

Oh and we've been to the park for a game of frizbee and a coffee in the cafe - almost memories of half-terms gone by, though DS will be at home for another 3 years

Horsemad · 22/02/2017 07:13

DS's 18th today. I am feeling old!

Part of me would like to turn back the clock and do it all again and part of me thinks, Naaaaah!! Grin

Feeling a bit emotional though (due to lack of sleep) - bit like when I gave birth Grin

ono40 · 22/02/2017 10:42

Big hugs for Horse today Flowers - is DS your youngest? I felt quite emotional too but part of me was thinking 'do I really have to do this all over again with DS2?'

Horsemad · 22/02/2017 10:52

Yep ono, he's my 'baby' Grin I will have to get a dog or something!!

Horsemad · 22/02/2017 20:43

Had first ever Jaegerbomb tonight and LOVED it!! Grin

bigTillyMint · 22/02/2017 21:30

He did, or you did, Horse?!
I hate Jaegerbombs - they taste like medicine!
DD, however, thinks they are "da bomb" Grin
Happy 18th to him!

HSMMaCM · 22/02/2017 21:51

Took dd for a drive on the motorway tonight as she and her friends have a small road trip planned. It was terrifying, even though she did well. I hate the thought of her driving at all, let alone around big trucks. I keep telling myself motorways are less likely to kill her than A roads, but ...

She loves jaegerbombs. She rarely drinks, but if she does, that's her choice.
