RS exams all finished. dd has decided that she prefers morning exams!
She is having an evening off. Next exam is English Lit on Monday.

Icouldbeknitting · 18/05/2016 16:28

EngLit is showing on the horizon but for us there's core chemistry tomorrow. ICT and RS went well for DS, it's been a confidence building week so far. Next week will be a bit more of a challenge I think but at least then there's half term to look forward to.

derektheladyhamster · 18/05/2016 16:42

Chemistry tomorrow, Spanish on Friday and DS wants to come home for the weekend Grin
I work on Saturday though, so I hope he's not just interested in the Xbox!

flatmouse · 18/05/2016 16:45

I'm late to the party again. DS started yday with AQA French ("the one with the selfies"). He was hyper last night! Think the adrenaline of the exams finally starting/getting one under his belt. His view was the reading was fairly easy apart from last question - and the listening was tough but he doesn't think he did terribly.
He had the short course RE today - not heard from him since. Will find out later (hopefully he's doing a maths past paper currently!).

BitOutOfPractice · 18/05/2016 16:51

Well that's another two over with. DD happy with both. The topics we revised together for RE last night all came up so that's good. WE can forget RE and ICT forever!

FantasyAndHope · 18/05/2016 17:02

Chemistry tomorrow then next exam is English lit on Monday

Nyama · 18/05/2016 17:10

Dd was pleased with RE. She doesn't want to throw any of her notes away 'because I spent so long writing them'. She is hoping to study it for A level.

EllenJanethickerknickers · 18/05/2016 17:10

First 2, RE and ICT done today here, too. DS1 had his first A2 exam today as well, so exam season officially started here. DS2 says they were 'fine.' Hmm

He does full course RE so still one paper to go for that. No more exams this week, Eng lit, geography and maths next week so we are having a night off revision and will go out for tea for a treat.

Icouldbeknitting · 18/05/2016 17:17

We are also off out for dinner as a treat. I'm not sure who it is a treat for - possibly for me as I don't have to shop, cook or wash up. My cunning plan is that it brings us together around a table to talk for longer than would happen at home.

littledrummergirl · 18/05/2016 18:14

I loved The crucible when I studied it at school. The parallel with the communism hunts I found fascinating, particularly when you look at Arther Miller's group of friends and how it effected them.

Fantasy, ds1 said he struggles to remember pressures and something else (wish I could remember what). He has gone over chem this afternoon and will read those parts again just before the exam.

I told him not to worry about drunk atoms though. 😆

DH was working from home today, and it's my day off so we took DS and DSD both out to the pub for lunch, which was really nice. DH reckons the meal for 4 of us cost him less than his train ticket would if he'd gone into the office, and it is a nice chance to chat and DSD enjoyed getting out of the house for a bit.

DS has worked hard today and I've just been marking a chemistry paper, he's done with the aid of a marking scheme - He appeared to get an A*, which he's so pleased with that that he's now playing Super Smash Bros for an hour Hmm Thinking I should have marked him more harshly!

That's funny about your DD wanting to keep her notes Nyama - DSD has been gleefully putting them all in the recycling the minute she finishes each exam, and she's usually a complete hoarder! She's only finished the subjects she doesn't like so far though, so I'm guessing may feel more fondly towards the favoured subjects of history or ancient history.

littledrummergirl · 18/05/2016 18:18

Chemistry tomorrow and Latin again on Friday. I can't even think about next week at the moment.
On a plus note ds1 is ready for the prom after a shopping spree this morning. He would still prefer to go in shorts and t shirt. HmmGrin

FantasyAndHope · 18/05/2016 18:22

DD has rang to say she's shattered feels very ill and just wants to sleep but she has prep so needs to go to that

TheSecondOfHerName · 18/05/2016 18:34

DS1 has English Lit on Monday but has given it zero input so far. I think it might be on the modern novel. He read Of Mice & Men and Lord of the Flies in Year 10, but I don't think he's given them much thought in the past 12 months. I'm hoping the English Lit revision will start on Friday, once Chemistry is over.

2gorgeousboys · 18/05/2016 18:35

I love The Crucible too LittleDrummer although DS1 was mortified when he started studying it and I suggested he use my battered old copy complete with notes in the margin, rather than by another copy!

I'm away for work for a couple of days from tomorrow and am quite glad to escape the revision overseeing and support for a while. DH can take over my role as feeder, cheerleader and counsellor!

NicknameUsed · 18/05/2016 18:58

"because he thought the odd bits were 'common sense'."

Something that is distinctly lacking in DD. She is great and understanding and regurgitating hard facts, but when it comes to something that is less concrete she struggles.

She has four exams a week for the next few weeks, having 3 GCSEs already.

"name three reasons a war can be seen as "just" and "what are the four categories of drugs?""

That is RE? These are the sort of questions DD had to answer for Citizenship.
Tomorrow is Citizenship and AQA chemistry

slgsue1979 · 18/05/2016 18:58

DD1 had French and biology yesterday and was concerned she found French ok and the rest of her friends said it was awful. She hated the biology paper said the first question was about something they hadn't ever studied so she took educated guesses most of the way through. I told her as long as she did her best I could not ask for more.
IT was today and she wasn't bothered by that one Chemistry tomorrow she is wondering what to revise if it's anything like the biology paper!

catslife · 18/05/2016 19:42

"name three reasons a war can be seen as "just" and "what are the four categories of drugs?""
That is RE? These are the sort of questions DD had to answer for Citizenship.

The difference is that they are supposed to use religious texts to support their arguments in RS (and depending on the paper) compare and contrast 2 different religions. dd had quotes from the bible and the Koran. I have no idea whether she used them or not though. She is aiming for a grade C and is relieved that exams for this subject are over.

BitOutOfPractice · 18/05/2016 19:49

Catslife is right. Perhaps I should have phrased the questions differently

"Name four reasons why Christians might believe a war to be just"

or

"What is Muslims' attitude to drugs and alcohol and why?"

sort of thing

marmiteloversunite · 18/05/2016 20:11

My DD asked me this morning what an "alcopop" is! The examiners in biology will probably think that all teenagers know that. She is too busy rowing at the weekends to party. Bless her.

marmiteloversunite · 18/05/2016 20:13

That's rowing a boat not rowing with me! Blush

Nyama · 18/05/2016 20:32

It's just plain weird that they made the question about 15 year olds and alcohol. Dd couldn't get her head around it and said at first she wondered if it was a trick question!

Nyama · 18/05/2016 20:32

Dd didn't know what an alcopop was either!!

NicknameUsed · 18/05/2016 21:43

DD isn't at all streetwise, but she expressed surprise that some students didn't know what an alcopop was.

OhYouBadBadKitten · 18/05/2016 21:54

chemistry tomorrow for dd too. Like others here she wondered what/if to revise.
I hate GCSEs :(
