DS has been recounting the 6 marker today to DD, who will do her exams next year. Very maths based, I could see DD worrying already!

starfleet · 25/05/2016 19:18

DS is still not forthcoming with information about his exams!

All he seems to say is that they were "OK", apart from Geography yesterday which he said he wasn't sure about and doesn't think he has done particularly well on that paper. He has a decent grade for his coursework so is hoping that and the next two papers will bring him in a good overall grade as it's one of his A level choice.

Maths and Latin tomorrow - he had extra revision after school to prepare for the Latin verse literature and he is doing some maths past papers tonight. He is looking forward to Friday enormously as he doesn't have any exams - although is a bit miffed that I'm making him wait at school for me until 4pm tomorrow so that we can go and see the Art show - his GCSE coursework will be on display and I know I'll never get to see it otherwise.

He doesn't show that he is stressed but has developed eczema on the inside of his arms which is a sign that he is - Cetraben is his friend at the moment and I'm making sure that he is getting plenty of sleep and eating properly.

He has said some of his friends revise until 10/11pm - he stops about 8ish. I don't think he needs to do any more than that especially if he is starting as soon as he gets back from school which - dependant on exam times - can be either 10.30am or 3pm.

Nearly two weeks down.

Roll on 17th June!

starfleet · 25/05/2016 19:20

I appear to have posted my long winded monologue twice. Apologies all.Confused

Wiifitmama · 25/05/2016 19:25

Jumping in and joining in - hope you don't all mind!

My oldest is also in the middle of exams right now. He is home schooled so taking all of his as an external candidate. He is doing IGCSE's (Edexcel) with the exception of maths tomorrow which is GCSE. He had physics today like many others. I too have enjoyed reading twitter- quite funny! He had the polar bear question on his exam, but not some of the other things mentioned on twitter - different boards I think.

I have been cooking all his favourite foods all week which seems to be keeping him in good spirits so far. This is his hardest week with the most exams so roll on the weekend!

LineyReborn · 25/05/2016 19:29

I was looking forward to the weekend but OH just told me today by text he's choosing to work. That's the only decent time we were going to have together all week. After all I've done for him blah blah blah.

littledrummergirl · 25/05/2016 19:55

Norbert thank goodness for small mercies! I asked ds1 how he got on with the hot air balloon question and he looked blankly and said no air balloon but there was a polar bear. We've not seen any mention of this paper in tsr so he was beginning to think he'd dreamed it!

NorbertDentressangle · 25/05/2016 20:06

Grin no it did exist.

DD said she was quite disappointed that there was only one random/weird non-physics reference in there. She was expecting the weird and wonderful!

OhYouBadBadKitten · 25/05/2016 20:12

Welcome wiifit :)

Maths tomorrow. Hope it is kind to students.

Amen to that kitten. Grin

NicknameUsed · 25/05/2016 20:21

starfleet does your son have three Geography papers? AQA only have two.

StepAwayFromTheThesaurus · 25/05/2016 20:40

All I got from DS1 was that AQA physics was ok today. He was willing to volunteer no more. So that's helpful.

He was happy about geography yesterday, muttered something about coasts. He seemed to be more positive about engineering yesterday morning than I was expecting. It's his worst subject so I think he was expecting it to be impossible. The focus this year is hand tools and he had loads of revision sessions for engineering so hopefully it'll be ok.

He's looking forward to maths tomorrow, because he's odd that way. He volunteered to do the level 2 further maths too (which isn't until the end of June).

NorbertDentressangle · 25/05/2016 21:10

What can anyone tell me about Additional Maths?

DD is doing this alongside GCSE but isn't entirely sure what it gives her.
She thinks it might give extra UCAS points??

Any ideas?

starfleet · 25/05/2016 21:20

DS is doing Edexcel Geography. There are three papers:-

Dynamic Planet
People and the Planet
Geographical Decs

OhYouBadBadKitten · 25/05/2016 21:25

if it is aqa further maths it is a Level 2 qual equivalent to a GCSE.Graded A^ A*-C
If it is ocr additional maths then it is a level 3 qualification and gives 3 ucas points. It is a shorter course than the aqa one with 60 hours of work, to be taught alongside GCSE.

NorbertDentressangle · 25/05/2016 21:52

Thank you Kitten. It sounds more like the like the latter.

I'd not come across it before so was a bit confused.

FantasyAndHope · 25/05/2016 22:05

*nicki
DD has three papers 2
1 physical
1 human
1 decision making and about data and representation of it

Igcse maths tomorrow! Hope it's kind DD got a C in her mock although she's capable of an A and her teacher said so but the mock was hard

boys3 · 25/05/2016 22:18

Best wishes to all those sitting Maths tomorrow. DS2 very relaxed about it. I hope that is a good thing. Hmm Physics seemed to go well this afternoon. Looking forward though to the half term break from exams to recharge batteries, some focused revision hopefully before the final push through to June 17th.

TheSecondOfHerName · 25/05/2016 22:25

Just thought I'd share DS1's revision kit. There is an Edexcel maths revision guide under there somewhere! Grin

June 17th seems to be the finishing day for most of us. Roll on June 17th and a big collective sigh of relief.

StepAwayFromTheThesaurus · 25/05/2016 22:34

It's not over until the 24th of June here. AQA further maths isn't until the 20th and 24th.

lashingsofgingerbeer · 25/05/2016 22:52

AQA physics was a good one according to DD - she came home very upbeat thank god & laughed about your clown question Kitten Grin Let's hope maths doesn't put a downer on her tomorrow! Was thinking the same about teens humour on Twitter - probably provides a good outlet for them all, just like this thread does for all of us! Maths & English Lit poetry up next....roll on half-term!!

HesMyLobster · 25/05/2016 22:53

Love the revision kit!

We're with you til the 24th Thesaurus!
A whole extra week Confused
DD has graphics on 21st too.

YippeeTeenager · 25/05/2016 22:59

We'll be here till the 24th too for further maths. Do we get extra chocolate for going the extra mile? Chocolate Physics today was 'fine' apparently, just like all the others. In my brighter moments I'm interpreting 'fine' as a definite A* in the bag, and in my bleaker ones I'm translating it as a mediocre not fine at all and wanting to hide under the bed. I wish they came back from exams with an easily readable success gauge on their foreheads...

ShanghaiDiva · 26/05/2016 00:20

DS has an exam free day today.
Good luck to everyone with exams today!

ExitPursuedByADonkey · 26/05/2016 00:23

DD was quite pleased with Physics.

Turned down extra maths and Latin help. Confused
