I only discovered it's the iGCSE when I was trying to find out if an exam had been missed off his timetable.
Next week he has Lit, geography, Latin, physics, Latin, maths.

Icouldbeknitting · 22/05/2016 19:32

Can I add a little good news item because it looks like we need one. DS is eating normally without dire consequences so it wasn't much more than a 24 hour thing that he had. He is also not in the least bit stressed about the week ahead. I do worry that overconfidence will trip him up at some point but there's absolutely nothing that I can do about it at this stage.

I only know what boards and units he's doing because it's written on the personalised exam timetable.

starfleet · 22/05/2016 19:34

Litledrunmer - that is DS's timetable for next week also. He said the Latin this week is the one he is dreading!

starfleet · 22/05/2016 19:35

Sorry - littledrummer spell check has completely garbled your name! I can spell - honest!

raspberryrippleicecream · 22/05/2016 19:57

Fantasy I hope your DD and anyone elses ill DC make a speedy recovery. Pleased Icouldbe DS is ok.

Catslife thanks for explaining about the science! It's also only 2 papers for each (still triple). DD thinks this is worse as more syllabus in each exam!

IGCSE Eng Lit. I know the English dept had a reason fir doingi GcSE but I can't remember it. Two years ago DS did both types of English Language as school were trialling the exams

littledrummergirl · 22/05/2016 19:58

Starfleet, Grin

FantasyAndHope · 22/05/2016 21:18

DD is stressed about English
She's very worried about essay structure as she has had so much conflicting advise from her teacher
Also she doesn't think it's manageable to do 6-8 chunky paragraphs with everything the mark scheme wants in 45 minutes and the other set have being told to do 4 good paragraphs

derektheladyhamster · 22/05/2016 21:24

Waved goodbye to ds with a 'do your best'. There is no more he can do at this stage except get a good nights sleep and pray for a migraine free week.
He knows English isn't his strongest subject.
Various poems & Silas marner tomorrow.

FantasyAndHope · 22/05/2016 21:25

DDs other friends are doing silas derek they hate it and said it makes no sense

TheDrsDocMartens · 22/05/2016 21:37

Dd1 is a lot better, I'm emailing her tutor/exam officer in the am as I'd have still kept her off today if it had been a school day. I'd rather be cautious and have someone keep an eye on her. Luckily not a big revision week , eng lit x2, Maths & physics as losing 3 days could have been tough.

TheDrsDocMartens · 22/05/2016 21:40

Hope everyone can keep well this week!

HesMyLobster · 22/05/2016 22:24

Have just talked DD into putting the books down and going to bed!
Think there has to come a point when sleep is more beneficial than more revision.
Never thought I'd be pleading and bargaining with a dc to stop revising though!
Hope all dcs tucked up and dreaming literary thoughts!
Lots of positive vibes for a stress free drama free illness free morning all round. Flowers

HeyBells · 22/05/2016 22:59

Hope all the poorly DCs feel better tomorrow. DS was very tired on Friday but has had a restful weekend. It is tough revising for and doing exams whilst still going to lessons and getting revision homework for other subjects. Few more days then half term and study leave.

I think he's spent most of the day with Romeo and Juliet, he is doing igcse so that and unseen poetry tomorrow. Already done coursework so it is the only lit exam. He did say it's the last one ever so no retakes available for this one.

ShanghaiDiva · 23/05/2016 00:37

Fantasy - hope your DD is felling better today :)
CIE English here today (in one hour!) - Thomas Hardy's poems and Jekyll and Hyde. Not DS's favourite subject and some of his answers are very creative!
Good luck to everyone with exams today!

OhYouBadBadKitten · 23/05/2016 05:13

Good luck to everyone in English today!

NicknameUsed · 23/05/2016 07:12

Yes, good luck. DD has done loads of revision, with a final cramming session last night.

FantasyAndHope · 23/05/2016 07:56

shang
We are CIE, DD is feeling a little better but still has a massive headache. She's going to find her teacher to remind her of the essay structure for poems

lashingsofgingerbeer · 23/05/2016 08:17

Porridge for brekkie, quick recap in car & now to tackle The Crucible & TKAMB - wonder what lovely AQA questions await them 🤔 📚📝

EllenJanethickerknickers · 23/05/2016 08:22

DS2 needs a C in either English lan or lit, so crossing fingers for him today! I think he finds lit harder as it's all about 'what did the author mean by...' or 'why did the author use these words... ' etc , which with ASD he really struggles with.

Good luck everyone!

ShanghaiDiva · 23/05/2016 08:25

Fantasy - hope the headache starts to fade soon and good luck for today!

DS now back from school and English was OK - think that's the best we can hope for!
Geography tomorrow.

TheSecondOfHerName · 23/05/2016 08:30

EllenJane my DS2 also struggles with that aspect of English Literature, for the same reason.

DS1 (who is neurotypical) is hoping for a B in English Lit, but his analysis of unseen poetry is weak, so he's going to need to write something impressive in the modern texts paper today. He had a panic attack in the mock exam and wrote three sentences, so I'm hoping for an improvement on that.

navylily · 23/05/2016 08:51

Two nervous teens departed off for English exams this morning. They both seem to find the fact that you don't know what's coming makes English exams particularly stressful. Hoping they relax once they're in there and see the papers.

BitOutOfPractice · 23/05/2016 08:54

DD1 also very nervous about English today. The teaching has been something of a dog's dinner to say the least. Everything crossed

NorbertDentressangle · 23/05/2016 09:11

DD headed off this morning for the first of her 6 exams this week.(Of Mice and Men / An Inspector Calls)

She seemed OK considering that it was this time last week that we had tears and panic.

I'm just hoping that she stays healthy as I'm fighting something and would hate for her to get it.

situatedknowledge · 23/05/2016 09:12

After being a pretty serene oasis of calm last week, DD went off looking quite concerned this morning. Time will tell I suppose.
