My DS also says hydrogenation. He had revised that the night before with me but said mind went blank and knows he got it wrong.
He didn't enjoy the chemistry paper, not sure if he was getting anxious/stressed towards the end.

He preferred the biology exam.

starfleet · 21/05/2016 21:13

I know there was a 6 mark question which DS seems to think he aced and he said there was one about petrol (that sounds a bit random but we had to stop at the petrol station on the way from school that day which instigated that conversation)

NicknameUsed · 21/05/2016 21:13

DD preferred the chemistry to biology.

OhYouBadBadKitten · 21/05/2016 21:16

dd hugely preferred chemistry.

My Ds has a medical condition that effects his concentration. He would have been able to stop or delay the chemistry exam because of his condition but he chose not to. I think it will have impacted on his ability to compete the exam. I'm hoping he will pick up marks on the next two chemistry exams as he wants to study it at A level.

ExitPursuedByABear · 21/05/2016 22:47

I think the 6 mark question was about comparing different types of fuel ie hydrogen and petrol.

I daren't ask dd as I don't want to rain on her parade.

starfleet · 21/05/2016 23:29

DS didn't actually say what the 6 marker was - he seemed a little more confident with the chemistry over biology so I've left it.

Concentrating on next week's subjects. I have tried to talk him into watching Of Mice & Men/An Inspector Calls for English Lit but he's having none of it.

eatingtomuchchocolate · 22/05/2016 06:28

I did the same offered to watch of mice and men or an inspector calls with him. He informed me he has watched them both at least three times.
He read a lot when he was younger I don't know if it's the reason but he does seem to have a natural ability for English so is fairly confident about the English lit exams this week

raspberryrippleicecream · 22/05/2016 08:53

I spent several hours doing Biology with DD yesterday, including a lecture on the eye. She has Eng Lit, Maths and Biology this week. She can take her book in (View from the Bridge) but says she's learnt lots of quotes anyway.

My problem is stopping her revising, not getting started. I'm sure there is a happy medium.

eatingtomuchchocolate · 22/05/2016 09:08

My Ds has 2x English lit, geography, maths, physics and Latin this week.

He is up, done his paper round and has started revising. He is fairly motivated.

NicknameUsed · 22/05/2016 09:39

raspberry are you sure it is biology? Physics unit 1 is on Wednesday. Biology was last week. Biology units 2 and 3 is on 10th June.

TheSecondOfHerName · 22/05/2016 09:56

DS1 is very glad that all of his science exams are done.

All of his exams so far have been afternoon sessions, so I'm not sure how he is going to cope with three morning exams this week. Yesterday he got up at 11am.

catslife · 22/05/2016 09:57

Nickname we have already established that raspberry dd is doing a different syllabus for Science and has exams on different days. (she has already double checked this as similar posts have caused concern on exam past days). Physics unit 1 is on Weds for AQA, Edexcel and OCR A (21st Century Science). raspberry dd is doing the OCR B (Gateway) course. Am not sure about iGCSE.
Please note that AQA is the only GCSE that has units 2 and 3 on the same day by the way. All other GCSE Science courses have "paper 3" on a different day to paper 2!

NicknameUsed · 22/05/2016 09:59

I must have missed that. catslife

catslife · 22/05/2016 10:01

By the way to those concerned about their dcs potentially missing a final question. GCSE exam papers have "End of Questions" on the last page. so if you have read that, you have finished. If it says "Please Turn Over" there are more questions over the page.

derektheladyhamster · 22/05/2016 10:05

I suspect there will be little revision done today as ds has a migraine. I'll try and get him into the fresh air later, but I'm just relieved it happened today and not tomorrow!

NicknameUsed · 22/05/2016 10:09

Oh no! I hope he feels better soon. Mine always last three days and I need Migraleve to get through them.

OhYouBadBadKitten · 22/05/2016 10:11

I hope he feels much better quickly Derek. Quiet day for him then.

HesMyLobster · 22/05/2016 10:34

Good tip about checking the back page, and the 'end of exam' clue! I shall definitely be passing that on to DD.
She was shocked when I told her that each question is marked by a different examiner, so not to worry about duplicating answers - to write everything for every question, even if 2 questions are asking for similar information.
Hope your ds feels better soon Derek.

OhYouBadBadKitten · 22/05/2016 11:25

If anyone is doing of Mice and Men tomorrow, there is a 1939 film version that looks pretty true to the script.

OP posts:
FantasyAndHope · 22/05/2016 11:47

DD is aqa igcse and is doing physics Wednesday
Aqa igcse sciences only have 2 papers

BitOutOfPractice · 22/05/2016 11:57

DD is doing Jekyll and Hyde and To Kill a Mickingbird tomorrow. Poetry on Friday. She's doing EdExcel

ShanghaiDiva · 22/05/2016 12:09

Jekyll and Hyde here tomorrow - CIE poetry and prose.

marmiteloversunite · 22/05/2016 12:19

An inspector calls and mice and men here. We have watched both in the last couple of days. She could discuss various characters and themes with me as we watched. More stressed about all of the learning for Latin and physics tbh.

ShanghaiDiva · 22/05/2016 12:32

Inspector calls here on Friday togeher with all my sons.
Inspector was one of my set texts for O level back in the early 1980s.
