GCSE - how many time slots / time

Quick question re GCSEs if someone could help.

How much time is allocated per week for lessons in each subject assuming taking typical number of 10? Trying to find an average amount of allotted time for Physics and Maths GCSE in particular?

Long story why, but thanks for any help!

DD's school (good performing 'leafy' comp in all-comp county):

5hrs / fortnight for 'options' subjects, 5 options in all so 25hrs / fortnight

25hrs / fortnight for 'core' subjects: Maths, English, ICT, RE y10 only, PE, Core science.

Core science got I think 5hrs, so double science got 10hrs/fortnight, and slow triple got 15hrs.

Per fortnight PE was 2 hrs, ICT and RE 2 or 3 each I think. Maths & English 6 each per fortnight. Once RE dropped end y10, maths and English gained 1 each.

Too many hours there tween! If science gets 10, maths and English 12 and PE the statutory 2, that's only 1 hour left for RE and IT!

Ours get (fortnightly):
6 English, 6 maths, 12 double science (or triple for top set), 2 PE, 3 RE, 1 PSHCE. Then 5 for each option- 4 options in total.

So for your specific subjects, 3 a week for maths and 2 a week physics.

About 4 hrs a fortnight for physics dd1 tells me and 7 a fortnight for maths.

English and Maths 6.66 hours per fortnight each
Triple Science 10 hours per fortnight
4 options @ 5 hours per fortnight each
Latin 3.5 hours per fortnight (extra to normal timetable)

titchy Sorry I wasn't clear. Core (single) science was 5. You upgraded it to double using one option (another 5).

English 6, Maths 6, Single Science 5, PE 2, RE 3, ICT 3
Options 5,5,5,5,5

Total 50

9 hours a fortnight Maths here. Not sure re: Physics, but most Options are 5 a fortnight

Ah right sorry misunderstood tween! Seems to be consensus all round then (and everyone also seems to have a two week timetable!).

50 minute lesson - 3 per week for Physics and 3 per week for Maths
DS is taking all 3 sciences as separate sciences if that's relevant

Dds school 9 GCSE's taken rescued academic timetable as specialises in performing arts (45 min lessons)
English - 5
Maths 4
Double science 6
Each option 4
PSHE 1

Triple science can now be taken as one of the options.

Putting it into hours would be

English - 3.75
Maths - 3
Double Science - 4.5

I was going to say something different:
Maths/English 6 hours a fortnight.
Other Options 4 hours a fortnight
Double Science counts as 2 options so 8 hours a fortnight timetabled as Science.
Triple Science counts as 3 options so 12 hours a fortnight timetabled as 4 hours Physics, 4 hours Chemistry and 4 hours Biology.

Wow that's even less than dd's school. Only 2 hours per week for each option!

How is 2 hours a week less than 4 hours a fortnight?

Cat life's school has 4 hours per fortnight for each option group (2hrs per week)

Dds school has 3 hrs per week each option.

I can't find the timetable for Ds's school as he's only in year 7 but it's lots more than dd gets c

DD is taking 11 GCSEs so:

Maths 4 lessons x 50 mins each
Science - she's doing triple science and has 5 lessons x 50 mins a week, the physics element will be 1/3rd of this.

The last lesson of the day is 60 mins, but not sure which ones these are: Overall she has:

2 PE lessons, 4 English, 4 maths, 5 science, and 3 lessons for each of her chosen GCSEs.

BalletgirlI thought the point of this thread was to list the number of time slots each week/fortnight, not to discuss which was better. Obviously the OP is unhappy about the timetable for her dc, but doesn't really give any details. I hope she looks again at this thread and realises that not all schools are the same.

I havnt given any opinion I what is better or not. I just tried to look up on my two childrens websites (both schools offer 9 GCSE's) how many sessions they get.

The info for Dds school was easily obtainable but not for ds. They attend very different types of school so I was hopeful by it would give both ends of the spectrum.

I wonder whether it makes a difference between 2 and 3 year GCSE course?

I could imagine a 3 year course could give a bit more time per week to English and Maths, and a bit less to options? (DD's school is 2 year at the moment).

That's a good point. Both dd & ds's school run 2 year GCSE's except Dds school started science in year 9

5 hours per fortnight for options, 6 hours per fortnight for maths and English, 9 hours per fortnight for double science, 2 hours for RE. Not sure for PE.

Maths 4 x 1 hr

Science 5 x 1 hr, with Physics, Chemistry, Biology on 3 week rotation
