I've never really understood how UMS points work. What difference would tracking them make? Feeling a bit clueless now!

HesMyLobster · 03/04/2016 23:08

Ps Awww you guys! Thanks
Very grateful for you all and the lack of kicking off!

found the thread - we have had to re-do the planner on GetRevising.co.uk as it all got out of date and he missed so many days.
Due to all the sport commitments, it looks like he has around 200 hours when he is at home and could revise. Then there will obviously be school hours on top of that, when i am sure they are already doing revision type work, practice papers etc.

First exam is 17 May i think for French listening and last one is 23 June for Further Maths. Fairly well spread out.

For this week, when he is off school - we are hoping for 4.5 hours per day

For weeks when he is back at school, we are hoping for max 1.5 hours per night, and up to 3 hours on a weekend day. Its not much but all the time he has, and i hope with it being short and sharp, maybe more focussed.

Cant remember who said it upthread, but great reminder about revising the topics and subjects which are difficult as agree its easy to get into a habit of revising your favourites.

If you did the child benefit update did you get a letter? I did mine online & found out this morning it's not logged so I've had to do it again.

Icouldbeknitting · 04/04/2016 15:40

Child benefit - I can't remember. I kept the email receipt from them when I did the update so if it has gone pear shaped then I have a reference to quote. DS was 16 a few weeks ago.

Hi I am new, well not really but new to this GCSE kid malarkey . Seeking advice!

Anyone able/will to give their or their dd opinions on tassomai, mygcse revison, and or mr bluff, or other online resource, at this late stage? I may offer to buy the paid content for dd1 if y'all and she think it worthwhile.

She's doing higher levels/ sets in triple Sci, Geog, music, French and the usual English maths. Predicted all As in year 7 which seems to have earned her lots of demoralising moaning from teachers ever since, which is not the way to motivate her, but they won't listen to me. She's more of a sprint at the end person, I just want to reduce the chances of a tumble at the last post.

ExitPursuedByABear · 04/04/2016 16:59

Things have gone a bit pear shaped here as my father is seriously ill in hospital. DD is terribly upset. Yeah! Go us!

Au79 · 04/04/2016 17:10

Sorry to hear that exit Sad

Au79 - My DS is getting in really well with Tassomai. I think it's quite good for kids who're inclined to leave everything to the last minute as it tells them (and you) how far through each subject they are.

MrsGuyOfGisbo · 04/04/2016 17:52

DS had been in school all day today doing Art and back again Fri, also for Art.

Dreamgirls 'Justine (first book of Alexandria Quartet) (Laurence Durrell) Handful of Dust (Evelyn Waugh) The Balkan Trilogy, (Olivia Manning)

Exit - very sorry to hear that, I hope that things improve for you all.

Au79 We're a Tassomai household but DS started before Christmas. It means that he's put more hours into science than anything else because it doesn't feel like revision.

Exit sorry to hear that your dad is unwell.

Au79 DS1 joined Tassomai a week ago, so I don't think it's too late.

Pros of Tassomai:
It's active revision, which is better than sitting there reading something.
It is tailored to him, and revisits a topic if he gets it wrong.
He is very motivated to do it and has done an average of 2 hours a day.

Cons of Tassomai:
I think he is neglecting other subjects because he prefers doing Tassomai.
You have to pay for it.

The only other revision he has been doing regularly is Maths practice questions.

I didn't like the book thief much either tbh. Not read Gatsby. I did enjoy Room, which has recently been made into a film I've not managed to go and see yet (not DH's thing he says). Quite harsh subject matter, but no worse than the book thief really. DD has been enjoying the Divergent series but is now getting into Vampire books. DS speaks very highly of the Maze runner series. DSD1 reads classics - she's currently reading One flew over the cukoo's nest, which I've not read (but have seen). The Time Traveller's wife is one that she and I both read and enjoyed.
