Dd had her Men thingy jab today. Plus a couple of ' mates' spreading malicious gossip about her and her bf. And another friend who thought she had told another a secret, but turns out she hadn't. Sheesh. I'm exhausted just typing it.

And then to top it all she found a spider lurking in the sleeve of her jumper when she was revising. She us VERY VERY scared of spiders.

Bless.

ICT practical was ok - ds couldn't get his data base work to print and couldn't find the error, but it eventually worked :) Think he had quite a tense 20 minutes though! The second practical is tomorrow.

ExitPursuedByABear · 27/04/2016 08:13

Bet he had a bit of a sweat on! Best of luck for him tomorrow.

littledrummergirl · 27/04/2016 08:19

Thanks Lobster. I don't think it's too bad but will see how he is later.
Hope today goes ok for everyone.

DS1's prom ticket arrived and it says the dress code is black tie! According to parents of Y12s, the boys wore lounge suits last year. Do they really mean black tie?

My DS is that position in quite a few subjects dream - his coursework is B grade, or thereabouts, but he's got his act together lately and is now getting A or even A in practice exams, but would be unlikely to get an A overall because the courswork will pull him down. Might get an A though, as the coursework is mostly only 25% or so of the final mark. It's a bit of a shame when he really can work at an A/A* level now, but the courswork was done a year or more ago sometimes when his writing skills were poorer and he wasn't very good at figuring out what examiners were looking for.

second - is it a state school? If it is I'd assume they simply mean "wear a shirt and tie" when they say 'black tie'. Still yet to broach this issue with DS who seems convinced he can turn up in tracksuit bottoms..... Am hoping his friends will inform him otherwise so I don't have to. His mates aren't exactly the most switched on to dress sense though, to put it mildly Grin

It is one of the issues with stretching coursework out over two years. They mature rapidly over Year 11 I think.

Black tie I would take to mean suit, not penguin clothes.

Yes, it's a state school. I think a lounge suit is more of a practical purchase as he can wear it for sixth form if he gets the grades whereas he would wear a dinner jacket once in a blue moon and probably will have grown out of it by the next formal occasion.

I didn't realise that iGCSE included coursework

Bluelilies · 27/04/2016 20:25

That's exciting for your DD dream Grin

DSD is doing mainly igcses. They seem to have about the same amount of coursework as other GCSEs (which DS is doing). I think the main difference is that they sometimes cover slightly more content but have a more straightforward style of exam including multiple choice for a few elements. But pretty similar overall.

Just got back from the school awards evening. DD won the school Drama Award! I'm so thrilled for her, it's a huge achievement!
She was nominated in other subjects but is delighted that it's drama that she won - it really is her passion Smile

TheSecondOfHerName · 27/04/2016 23:25

Well done to your DD, what a great confidence boost.

ExitPursuedByABear · 27/04/2016 23:27

ShanghaiDiva · 28/04/2016 00:38

iGSCSE English has a coursework option (CIE) but ime most of the subjects are exam only, ds is taking all CIE and English was the only one with coursework.
The expectations for the coursework are very high. Ds produced a decent piece last year (in terms of his ability) and was told it was a C/D which really shocked him. He spent a lot of time on the next two pieces and redid the first one and did get an A but it was a slow and painful process.

ShanghaiDiva · 28/04/2016 01:15

Well done Lobster's DD - great news to receive before the exams start :)

Congratulations to Lobster's DD, it's a great time of year for such a big confidence builder.

ShanghaiDiva · 28/04/2016 08:16

Dream - nothing wrong with BB :)

OhYouBadBadKitten · 28/04/2016 08:29

Congratulations to your dd lobster :) How splendid!

BB is absolutely fine and many kids would give their eye teeth to have such a result.

dd brought home her revision session/exam timetable. I'm now almost glad that they don't start study leave til half term because afterwards she will be in and out like a yo yo and the bus situation round here is a bit dodgy so I'll be driving back and forth a huge amount.

This half term is doing weird time things. It seems to be half racing at giant speed to the exams and at the same time it seems to be taking forever.
