Here we are everyone.

LittlehumHams · 18/05/2016 11:42

Yes. It is a different paper.

AmazingDisgrace · 18/05/2016 11:54

S1 did Maths C1 this morning as well and has History this afternoon. Despite promising to text me to say how it went I've not heard a peep. I'm assuming he is in the library doing some last minute cramming

Horsemad · 18/05/2016 11:58

Thanks LittlehumHams. DH just confirmed same!

dingit · 18/05/2016 12:27

Dd just back from c1 maths. Said the same. Apparently it's trending on Twitter at the moment. Some of the comments are quite funny. At least they all feel the same.

Grin dd3 did the OCR paper. Wonder what the comments are like for OCR.

LittlehumHams · 18/05/2016 12:54

Aha. Poor things. At least they have a sense of humour.

DS doesn't do maths but his friends said the Edexcel C1 paper was horrible, all weird fractions and no whole numbers. And it's supposed to be the easier one. He was very relieved he wasn't doing it.

teta · 18/05/2016 13:25

Yes,dd1 said Edexcel was horrible.Apparently as hard as the Chinese Maths papers (given to overseas students) and much much harder than previous c1 papers. She couldn't do the Quadrilateral one and ran out of time on her last question.Even the first question was hard. But,she was calm ,due to large amounts of Bach remedy thank God.Given that she normally gets 95% plus on practice papers, anything from 67% to 70%+ on Chinese papers what will the Grade Boundary be?

aginghippy · 18/05/2016 14:33

DD is on a thread on the student room where someone has posted an unofficial mark scheme. They are saying 62-63+ would be an A. They are only guessing, though.

HSMMaCM · 18/05/2016 14:37

DD's friend who normally gets near on perfect scores in maths is in tears apparently. He was expecting it to be his 'easy' exam.

DD had Maths this morning, "C1" but not sure which board.
Happier when she came out than yesterday with her Geog, but again didn't get to the end of the paper.
Feeling perhaps I could have asked for extra time for her as she almost certainly has (mild?) dyslexia. She was given extra time for exams in Y6. Should school have picked up if this was appropriate for her, or wondering should I have asked?
She says she just needs to get better at using the time well, but I'm sure it's not meant to be this hard to get through a paper Confused I hate to see her under so much pressure and upset at not being able to finish.
She seemed to manage reasonably with timing in GCSE's, but it did affect a couple of papers/subjects.
Any chance of getting extra time for A2's next year do you think?

teta · 18/05/2016 15:01

I think it would be well worth looking into Juggling.Apparently you need to be assessed within a certain time period.I think speak to your school Senco in the first case.Assessments are expensive but sometimes schools can have access to special rates.
Glad to hear that everyone else is having issues with the Edexcel paper.

SugarPlumTree · 18/05/2016 15:12

I'd ring school and ask if they can organise an assessment for herJuggling. DD was assessed for dyslexia and dyscalculia earlier this year and will be getting extra time in maths as has got dyscalculia. There was no discussion of this at previous school and it wouldn't have happened had I not asked.

DS also now has extra time following dyslexia diagnosis last year, the SENCO was saying he will need to be 'done' again before GCSE as it only lasts a certain amount of time. We paid for his assessment, DD's was free through college, Someone else we know was diagnosed recently with dyslexia in year 12 after she approached her school.

goodbyestranger · 18/05/2016 15:19

Litlehum DS did the same OCR paper as your DD and said the consensus at school was that it was completely vile - although nothing as compared to the FM paper which followed it!

JugglingFromHereToThere · 18/05/2016 16:33

Thanks teta and SugarPlum I may well ask school what they think about getting her assessed after we're through the exam season but before the summer hols - they work straight through after exams are over. Probably depending a bit on how the rest of them go, but also seems like it would be worth getting an assessment for her, especially when her earlier school history indicates it would be appropriate - and her ongoing issues with organisation.
A friend of mine provides specialist support for students with a variety of learning difficulties at Uni and it was interesting to hear from her recently how much support can be available at Uni too.

bigTillyMint · 18/05/2016 17:30

Juggling, DD's friend got assessed quite recently and has been given extra time for the AS's - I will ask her if it is helping when I next see her. I'm sure it is! She was getting very down with "practice" exams. She has stayed in the same school for sixth form, so I think it only really became more apparent when she started AS's IYSWIM.

How did other History-takers find it? DD said "I dunno," but isn't upset, so hopefully it wasn't a fail.

LittlehumHams · 18/05/2016 19:14

Thanks goodbye. Good to know that the reaction was similar in other schools. Her couple of dodgy questions shouldn't make a big difference.

Further Maths modules to follow after half term for dd3. Oh joy.

Abraid2 · 18/05/2016 20:13

OCR Maths AS C1 has caused a meltdown in our house this evening. I am eyeing the wine but have resisted so far, not sure the chocolate is safe, though.

LittlehumHams · 18/05/2016 20:18

I think a lot of students struggled so tell your dc not to worry Abraid. There is alread a Hitler youtube clip about OCR C1 which is a sure sign of a tricky exam.

Abraid2 · 18/05/2016 20:24

Thank you, Littlehuns, that's really reassuring to know.

Their maths teacher has written to OCR complaining. Whether it makes any difference or not if schools object, who knows. It's such a weird year with all the transitioning going on or not going on.

LittlehumHams · 18/05/2016 20:35

No problem. This might reassure you too.

Has anyone got anything good to say about AQA Maths C1?

My DC came out in tears! Sad
