Argh, just read a newspaper article about step. Yet another hurdle to jump across.

Draylon - Sound like a glimmer of light ...
... as long as it's not an oncoming train.

Maybe with the pressure a bit off he might feel more encouraged to work harder (clutches at straws)

Maths A level would be a great subject alongside IT/computing. I'm glad your research is helping. Learning about BTECs is a steep curve.

bigTillyMint · 12/04/2016 07:03

Draylon, that does indeed sound like a glimmer of light. Fingers crossed...

Draylon I've been reading your posts for a while and quietly sympathising. It really does sound like your ds is starting to think straight and wresting back ownership of his learning.I hope it continues.
Dd1/had to be dropped off at her lambing farm in the middle of nowhere down a really steep rutted muddy track.I was really worried I was going to get stuck after all the rain last night.I disgraced myself driving her to her first job by getting stuck in a rut and the farmer had to pull me out with a tow truck.I'm terrified it's going to happen again.
It's a blooming nightmare being a parent sometimes .

I had to giggle at the tow truck. Thanks for the light relief. Grin

Draylon, I think there may be some prep for Maths A level courses over the Summer. I would expect a reasonable amount of interest. DD's sixth form ran their own pre-year12 course last Summer.

They are performing their group drama piece sometime next week and one girl has just announced she's quitting. She's in DD's group !!!!!!

No idea yet. I think they may possibly perhaps have heard their drama teacher swear Grin

Teta lol at the tow truck Grin

Draylon I have an A-level in Maths (grade B) and I wasn't brilliant at it, it was just practice, practice, practice. My problem was just knowing which formula to apply when or what method to use. I was fine at Pure Maths, rubbish at Applied. DS says those doing maths have about 1.5 hours homework every night and are always working through their frees. There is a lady on another board called Nobelgiraffe who is a maths teacher. She may be able to signpost you to summer courses.

Meanwhile here DS has been found to have a low white blood cell count. Not entirely sure why or what that means but he is having further tests and investigations. I am sure that will go some way towards explaining the persistent sore throats and fevers that he's had since September when he had sepsis but really, that is all we need coming up to exam season. Best get googling 'chicken soup' recipes!

SugarPlumTree · 13/04/2016 06:49

Ono, hope you get some answers on that soon, your poor DS (and you).

Teta I am really Grin about tow truck.

HSM that's really difficult about the girl quitting, tough on your DD and rest of group.

Draylon glad there is a bit of light at end of tunnel. We are firmly on countdown to the end now, 6 more weeks and 3 more projects which she has to pass. Her course does all the core units year 1 then next year's are the other ones, not that she is staying next year.

Really need to contact Japanese tutor soon and arrange lessons for September. I'm hoping two a week will be ok plus one with her other tutor so 3,hours with native speaking tutors. The main one has worked for the examining board so knows her stuff

I shall be having empty nest syndrome in September as DD moving to Finland if she likes it after her trial there this summer.

bigTillyMint · 13/04/2016 07:13

Crikey, SugarPlum - Finland? Remind me what is happening with the trial. She certainly likes to travel about!

I have no idea about tutors, but I did find one for DD for Tudor History (because of her teacher not teaching in a way that is working for her or many others) and she has been twice. DD seems quite positive about it, so at least I have done something £££ to help!

HSM, that sounds awful for the group - what is the teacher saying?

Ono, your poor DS - no idea what it means, but hopefully now it's been identified the docs can get him back on track.

SugarPlumTree · 13/04/2016 07:31

She's going over middle of June or so for about 5 weeks then back for our family holiday. If she likes it then I'll be waving her off end of August. She'll have an open ticket so can come back anytime but is planning to try it until Christmas, back here for then and back again if going well. She'll need to be back here to sit A level in June. This is as a result of Japan trip last summer when she came back with a male in tow. Thankfully he is lovely but the country gap has caused complications, He's been here for 2.5 weeks this stay so far so we are getting to know him well and thankfully DH and I both like him.

She'll need to be back next June to sit the Japanese. She's going to do TEFL over there as well so plan is she'll hopefully end up with 90 credit L3 BTEC photography, Japanese A level and TEFL. I've told her to have a year off studying then whilst she decides what to do. It was never going to be straightforward with DD to be honest !

bigTillyMint · 13/04/2016 08:10

Wow, she really knows what she wants to do and is going for it, isn't she? How fantastic! Though I can see it is a huge step for both her and you.
Is she going to stay with the bf?

teta · 13/04/2016 08:51

Gosh Sugarplum that's a big adjustment for both of you.You must have been so busy weighing up the different options over the past few days.Good luck for your DD and I hope she's happy there.

Ono that does sound worrying but at least now you have a cause of your ds's frequent illness's.Now you can try and solve the problem.I'm sure the doctors will be able to help.

DD is loving lambing but was a bit perturbed by witnessing a sheep pregnant with twins rolling down a very steep slope like a cartoon. She was sliding down on her bum ( when the guys weren't looking). The sheep didn't look too hot when it got to the bottom. It couldn't walk and the quadbike couldn't get near enough.

It's absolutely beautiful there today though.A clear bue sky on top of the hills and rolling fields shrouded in early morning mist.

HSMMaCM · 13/04/2016 09:36

Finland !!!! You mean DD might leave home one day? Not sure if I'm happy or sad about that Grin.

Teta I did some work experience with small animals. Mostly it was wonderful, but sometimes very sad.

TeenAndTween · 13/04/2016 09:40

Sugar I don't know how you stay so calm, Japan, Finland etc. I need to learn not to worry so much I think.

LittlehamHums · 13/04/2016 09:50

Timbuktu next Sugar? Grin

Hope your ds gets better ono.

SugarPlumTree · 13/04/2016 10:37

Japan utterly freaked me out to be honest and I've improved since then as learned I will utterly lose the plot otherwise. She will be staying with BF who is a student living in a flat his Dad owns. Goodness knows what his parents think about it all. When I agreed to that she was adamant there was nothing in it (the rest of us knew there was) and it was to be temporary until she found somewhere over there. Then one day she announced finally they were an item and I realised I'd agreed she can shack up with her boyfriend at 17. She'll be nearly 18 though and I'd rather keep communication going so it is what it is.

Yes HSM, she might leave one day ! I believe they have a tendency to return though ....

dingit · 13/04/2016 20:41

On the conspiracy theory thread, apparently Finland doesn't exist Smile, sorry don't know how to post a link though.

SugarPlumTree · 13/04/2016 22:00

Saw it earlier, provided great amusement here !

Auntpetunia2015 · 14/04/2016 18:17

I keep loosing you all as life is getting in the way . Am gonna try and catch up now...

HSMMaCM · 15/04/2016 14:14

So DD and her drama group spent every evening with the drama teacher last week re-setting their drama piece to write out the girl that quit. Then ... She turns up at drama yesterday and 'thinks' she might complete the assessment after all !!!!

DD had a lovely afternoon yesterday though, doing a photo shoot for one of the photography students. She has some lovely photos of her dancing in random places.
