Are students disadvantaged by choosing double award science over triple?

Hi.

My daughter is in the process of choosing her GCSEs. She would be very capable of doing the three sciences individually however would prefer to choose core plus additional so that she can do an extra humanity subject as at this point she has no idea what she wants to do. We are concerned that should she decide to go down the science route for A level, her lack of triple science at GCSE may work against her if she decides to apply to a Russell Group university. Officially this shouldn't be a problem but informally I have heard that at certain universities it would work against her. Does anyone have any experience they could share? thanks.

The schools round here and my dd school, not round here Grin
both offer A level Science (s) to those who've good enough levels on the double award. 7-9 is quoted for dd school.
They don't offer triple.

It’s not a problem for University ( I did dual science gcse then read chemistry at Oxford)!
The only issue is the start of the Alevel course if she’s going into a sixth form with lots of people who did single sciences there would be some catch up. Nothing she couldn’t cover with a bit of work though.

My dc did triple and felt the core modules done by both double and triple were the most difficult ones so maybe that's why most feel the difference can be made up after a term of A level? DC was taught in a mixed double /triple group for Y10 then separated for Y11.

Sorry meant was taught core modules with mixed groups and had triple lessons with just triples to cover the extra modules.

For the benefit of recent posters, this is a zombie thread.
The OP was in 2016 and it is likely that the dc have already done GCSEs and A levels by now.
