Follow on thread from the GCSE exams and proms thread. For hand holding and recommendations of wine/chocolate/biscuits to get through the post results stuff.

Having found the grade boundaries on the internet has not done dd any good at all. This is what is making her doubt she has at least an A for English Lit. Anyway I'm at home tomorrow and will think of something for her to look forward to on Wednesday night. Theatre tomorrow but it seems there's nothing much at the cinema at present. I've got a 2 for 1 voucher for Pizza Express though so perhaps that will do although she'll have to talk to me for an hour or so.

funambulist · 17/08/2015 20:23

DS1 has just downloaded a countdown ap. 2 days 13 hours and 42 minutes to go.

LynetteScavo · 17/08/2015 20:32

DS told me he was going to go with his friend on the train to collect his results. DH was going along with this idea. I may have got a little hysterical calmly explained to them that if DS has fucked up I will need to get him enrolled somewhere else, so I'll need to drive him to school.

If all is well DS then can then go off with his friends and get the train home. And I won't have to wait to know his results!

JugglingChaotically · 17/08/2015 20:35

Count down app ????
Good news here as DD has finally got her school access to work so at least we don't need to wait for the post now.
Will need to try and persuade her to get up though.........

HSMMaCM · 17/08/2015 21:06

Lynette, that's why I'm going with DD, in case she needs me to help her out if it all goes wrong. I'm hoping I won't be needed, but I do want to make sure she had actually sorted out what A levels she is taking. She can't take the ones she originally chose.

tobee · 17/08/2015 21:17

I've just got this great image of a load of cars parked by school entrances on Thursday morning,, or nearby side roads, each with a mummy inside, white knuckles gripping steering wheels, peering through windscreens, anxiously waiting for the returning familiar figure of dc, clutching envelope. Scanning for signs of emotion. Good or bad? It may only be 20 minutes or so, but, by God , it seems forever!

SanityClause · 17/08/2015 21:21

Oh, tobee, that will so be me.

I feel ill just thinking about it.

Leeds2 · 17/08/2015 21:25

Reading these posts makes me very grateful that, last year, DD didn't actually have to go into school!

Good Luck to all those getting results on Thursday.

titchy · 17/08/2015 21:26

Grin tobee

LynetteScavo · 17/08/2015 22:23

I don't think I will be able to stay in the car. I'll be the uncool mother going into school with DS. Blush

spudmasher · 17/08/2015 22:26

I've so messed up the dates of this holiday.......

TheWoollybacksWife · 17/08/2015 23:49

Oh Spud it will be fine. I'm very jealous of your lovely holiday as a distraction from the waiting.

I remember getting DD1's GCSE results. I waited in the car in the school car park while she went in with her friend. She came out and opened the envelope. All was good until we got to the IT results. These were on a separate piece of paper from the rest and she had a D. She was devastated and I was raging. She had spent so much time on her coursework at lunchtimes and after school and her teacher kept telling her it was great but it appeared that it was all in vain. Her friend was opening her envelope in her mum's car and came over to compare results. DD1 told her friend that we were going to complain about the D. Her friend then gently explained that IT was a BTEC and her D was a distinction. Blush

I've checked and DD2 didn't do any BTECs Grin

canny1234 · 18/08/2015 03:57

Ha ha Woolly.I'm so glad I will still be overseas on Thursday.I don't think I could cope with the stress of driving my daughter into school.Though I'm sure she will be obsessively haunting Facebook and instagram for her friends results all morning.Definitely no count-down app here!

nokidshere · 18/08/2015 05:53

DS needs a lift to school on Thursday but we have had strict instructions not to get out of the car ????

He seems confident enough but wants to change his A levels. Apparantly he can do that on Thursday and he doesn't need us for that either.

This is my first child doing exams and it all sounds very complicated Confused I thought they just get to school and get results - all this talk of points and places is over my head! He got an offer for the 6th form but I don't remember seeing any grade conditions on it?

SugarPlumTree · 18/08/2015 06:47

Spud it will be fine and your holiday sounds wonderful, you really don't need to be here. Wooly that is very funny!

I'll be in the car park but not the school one, I have my place worked out where we're least likely to see people. So far DD has a D in core science and a D or E in ICT so results for her have always been a very bad thing indeed. She said she's dreading looking at all the fails on her result sheet on Thursday. Really feel for her, it's all the more difficult for her with her younger brother being good at exams and DH and I being pretty academic. Thank goodness for her film success, she can see she is good at something. Please keep your fingers crossed the Film Festival still accept it with the new music, she does need this.

How is everyone sleeping? I did much better here last night. Surprised me as last night was very stressful with calls about FIL. I have an awful feeling he's going to go just before or during results. Poor DH is being very stoical but it is getting quite hard to cope with the waiting for that news and the results getting closer.

Nokidshere different schools work differently, he may well have an unconditional offer for 6th firm and you don't need to worry.

JugglingChaotically · 18/08/2015 07:27

Spud - holiday good place to be I think!
Sugar - glad you had a better night
DD has told me she won't be getting up early to check results so to go to work on Thursday and she'll call me at some point ........
I know she will be on Facebook too.
Social media not helpful I think - increases stress levels all round.

SugarPlumTree · 18/08/2015 07:31

Yes I think social media adds a whole new dimension to it all as really ramps up the nerves before hand. I'm going to encourage DD to keep off it after the results for a bit.

That will be a nice calm morning at work on Thursday for you Juggling, not!

NarrativeArc · 18/08/2015 07:41

I had a horrible dream last night.

I was sitting a French exam and the girl next to me was sharing her seat with her boyfriend and there wasn't enough room for me.

By the time someone had found me a new seat there was only 20 mins left so I fled the room in tears.

I tried to find the HT but he was interviewing so I located the head of French who was working a shift in Burtons!

T'was horrible!

mummytime · 18/08/2015 07:46

Nokidshere my DD doesn't have any conditions on her Sixth form place, but does need Cs and ideally Bs in her one subject that she is continuing on with (she should get an A and possibly/probably A*). She also can change subjects before the beginning of term, and then in the first month (after the first 2 weeks when they like them to really try out the subjects). There is a possibility if she does extremely well in one subject she might decide to take it.

Her brother was also pretty much guaranteed a place in sixth form too, but did need certain grades for certain subjects, and had to re-do English as he didn't get it first time (or 2nd or 3rd or...., another story).

mrsdavidbowie · 18/08/2015 07:48

Seven GCSEs needed for DS to go to sixth form.

Ginandtonictime · 18/08/2015 08:07

Sugar - getting off to sleep ok, but awake at 3.30 and completely unable to get back off ... feel all draggy and stuffed with wool ...

Not used to this problem; having had DS2&3 (twins) I've had the knack of dropping off whenever or wherever possible. These exam nerves and DH's assumption that since I'm awake at insane o'clock there must be time for a bit of nooky! can sod off!

DS is at boarding school so he will have his results emailed to him before 9am on Thursday. We unexpectedly received the IGCSEs results last Thursday for 3 exams which took us all by surprise. I wish we had got them all last week, unexpectedly, as since Thursday it has been constantly on my mind and we wouldn't have to endure this build up!
I plan to have a bottle of Champagne (or CAVA) ready to make some Buck's Fizz to celebrate with him. If he has done well, that's great,if he hasn't, well the Buck's Fizz is to celebrate all the hard work because I know he worked his socks off and that's as much as I can ask of him. Booked to go out to his favourite restaurant too whether it is celebrations or commiserations!
Hand holding and hugs to everyone as we endure the next 48 hours or so!

funambulist · 18/08/2015 09:27

motherstongue my DS did the same board, but we don't get the results till Thursday and I'm not sure it's any better knowing that some of his friends have those exam results but he had to wait.

I hope your DS did well?

Theas18 · 18/08/2015 09:56

Missclemency DD had a bad dream- She only got 6 results, 3 As a P a H and an L and " dream me kept saying they weren't real grades but maybe P for physics was logical!! "
