Follow on thread from the GCSE exams and proms thread. For hand holding and recommendations of wine/chocolate/biscuits to get through the post results stuff.

DD was taking selfish with a donkey in her frees (there is definitely a donkey theme today). Her proper assignments start in 3 weeks but she does have things to do. I will start nagging soon. That isn't great school haven't emailed back yet really.

DS started middle school in year 5 on first with a high voice in the morning and came back with a lower one , no one dared to say anything but were all looking at each other silently mouthing 'is his voice lower ?'. He's just 12 and 5 ft 5 with size 8 feet so has done a fair bit of growing recently. My hope is as he has started early he will finish early and we will breeze through GCSE's

SugarPlumTree · 15/09/2015 21:40

Errol, didn't see you there, hello. I'm afraid i've no experience in the clothes front but having seen pupils going off to smart day at a school maybe smart trousers, blouse/shirt type of thing plus jacket ? Do New Look have a petite range maybe that would have something ?

ErrolTheDragon · 15/09/2015 22:39

Sugar, hope your DS continues to get some support and work through this bad patch.

New Look - ah, well DD will only go in there at xmas to choose socks for friends, the clothes are apparently what the 'popular' crowd liked. HmmGrin

Idefix · 16/09/2015 06:19

Quick post! Errol take a look at Zara, they do a lot of smart but not frumpy separates and dresses.

SheGotAllDaMoves · 16/09/2015 06:44

Not long ago ( so still in stock) I bought DD a black suit in the Next Petite range. A size 6. Fits well and she is tiny. We had a good foot taken off the skirt hem thoughGrin.

Not the best quality ever but a reasonable price and well tailored.

HSMMaCM · 16/09/2015 07:19

Errol is she can't find a jacket she likes, how about a blouse and smart jumper or cardigan? Smart trousers or skirt should be fine I would think.

dingit · 16/09/2015 07:46

We got a lt of stuff in Dorothy Perkins, dd wouldn't be seen dead in their normal stuff, but we got a couple of skirts and tops, an one of those jumpers with a fake blouse.
I was going to take her to Next for a jacket, but we went in Primarni first, she tried one she liked, so we got that, it had £20 on it, but rang in at £10. It's a bit polyesterish, but no worse than her school blazer, and looks smart, you really can't tell!

TeenAndTween · 16/09/2015 10:48

Errol This may not be your thing, but when petite DD (5ft1) needed 'business clothes' for a business week end of year 10 I found a good selection via charity shops: a very nice Next petite tailored jacket, a Next petite trouser suit (needed to turn up the length), above the knee red skirt, above the knee purple skirt. Adding on some smart shirts in black & white and we were sorted.
So she got some really nice quality stuff for next to nothing, is now sorted for funerals, and has business wear sorted for a trip later this term she needs it for too.

bigTillyMint · 16/09/2015 10:54

Seems like there's a few petite DDs on this thread - mine is too (despite me being tall!) Not had to buy smart clothing for sixthform but will log the details fot future ref!

getoffthattabletnow · 16/09/2015 11:36

H&M are good for petite trouser suits. They seem to be on the slightly small side and are generally pretty fitted ( dd is small in stature)You can order online along with different tops. We've also had success with D.perkins,Next and Tk Maxx.

ErrolTheDragon · 16/09/2015 13:54

Thanks Thanks everyone - I knew this thread would be a mine of relevant info!
That gives me hope that the local high street will suffice. I've worked from home for the last 20 years, so I'm not much help to her - need to sort something out for myself for an upcoming trip to the US office, which I used to visit a lot but haven't been for over 14 years.

MEgirl · 16/09/2015 14:10

DT1 is now recovered from tonsillitis with the help of some heavy duty anti-Bs. Both boys are off to tackle the chemistry teacher on the amount of homework. They were given an extraordianry amount on a subject they haven't yet been taught and over a religious festival when they are not supposed to be working. Oh well, can't wait to see what the outcome will be. They are both trying so hard and are both exhausted, even with 4 days off. I have a feeling things might settle down in a couple of weeks time when all of the disruptions are out of the way.

MEgirl · 16/09/2015 14:10

Could really do with an edit function on Mumsnet.

JugglingFromHereToThere · 16/09/2015 14:39

Sounds very similar to our recent stresses MEgirl - hope you have some success tackling the chem teacher on it
BTW I couldn't spot any mistakes unless it was how to spell tonsillitis, and I'd only be guessing on that myself (with help from spell check) - but yes I'd often like some editing powers too for minor re-thinks or errors

MEgirl · 16/09/2015 14:59

I wonder if you are at the same school Juggling (Herts)

*extraordianry

MEgirl · 16/09/2015 15:01

By the way, I'm doing my best to support the boys to deal with this themselves and not get involved but may have to resort to emailing the teacher if things get too stressed. The DTs have matured a lot over the last few months so keeping fingers crossed that they manage this themselves.

JugglingFromHereToThere · 16/09/2015 15:34

Not in the same school MEgirl, we're in Cambs and probs so far are with art and geog homework (but not so much subject specific I don't think - more just that we were away for the w/e and generally there seems to be quite a lot) Art said they'd normally give a full week for assignments and so were quite forgiving and dd not the only one who hadn't completed the task - which tbf was also somewhat of an ongoing thing
It feels more of a settling into things issue here I think, but I hope things calm down a bit for us all. It's a bit of a shock after such a long summer break

bigTillyMint · 16/09/2015 21:55

Well DD has done 2 weeks at her new sixth form and is still in one piece! I agree, Juggling, the work is a shock after the long summer break - hopefully they will get into the groove before too long.

I have had an email from the school saying that they had had a meeting with her, but they haven't Confused and I couldn't get hold of the Head of Sixth form. Hopefully it will get sorted out tomorrow one way or another!

HSMMaCM · 17/09/2015 07:07

Btm that email is a bit odd then!

Checked with DD last night she's still happy with her subject choices and she said she is. Added a bit of 'make sure you keep on top of it all' unwanted advice.

bigTillyMint · 17/09/2015 07:16

HSM, it is very odd! Glad your DD is happy with her subject choices. I think DD is OK with hers, but is moaning about some of her teachers being boring. And one who doesn't seem to have grasped how to handle Sixth formers or that you teach in the lessonGrin

Idefix · 17/09/2015 08:53

Wanted to share remark for English is back and ds now has a c Grin
Hilariously given how vile the head was in our previous interview he phoned to tell me the good news!?! Obviously this makes him the good guy...

dingit · 17/09/2015 09:07

GReat news idefix

bigTillyMint · 17/09/2015 09:25

Idefix, that's great newsWineFlowers
Not surprised by vile HT, sadly.

JugglingFromHereToThere · 17/09/2015 09:55

Congrats to your ds Idefix Flowers

Did I tell you all that the young lad I was supporting through some home tutoring got a C for his Eng Lit Grin
This was a great achievement for him and we are all delighted
He also got a C for Eng Lang and passed something called "Numbers and measures" in Maths (but I was less involved with these)
Given that English and Maths qualifications are so key now to almost anything else you might want to do I am so very pleased for him and quite proud to have been able to help in a small way towards his success

bigTillyMint · 17/09/2015 12:11

That's great Juggling! It is so important that we recognise all students achievements, as well as the A's and A*'s
