Follow on thread from the GCSE exams and proms thread. For hand holding and recommendations of wine/chocolate/biscuits to get through the post results stuff.

There is a link to the student room much further up this thread, which has links to the grade boundaries for various exam boards,

www.thestudentroom.co.uk/showthread.php?t=3508335

but you can just Google "grade boundaries aqa 2015", for example and it'll come straight up.

I can only find the course work grade boundaries, though not the exam.

Just been to Wagamama for a celebratory lunch. I could visibly see the weight lift off DS' shoulders - no wonder the research shows British teenagers are the unhappiest in the world.

Are your DCs doing 3 or 4 A-levels? DS school make them start 4 but then give up one at half term. Seems a bit pointless to me, why not just to 3? He can't decide on the 4thbut we have a week to consider.

Draylon I think I've seen on mumsnet some research about the chances of getting a good grade at A-level maths being very low if you have a B at GCSE

I think I'll be in bed by 9pm as I didn't sleep a wink last night. Is it Wine o'clock yet?

tbtc20 · 20/08/2015 16:42

Q. 6th form has asked to see results slips (by email or fax). Do they mean all 4 pages including the breakdown for each paper, or do they just want to see final grades?

bigTillyMint · 20/08/2015 17:01

tbtc, I don't know - DD took the 2 pages in to the one she had to show them to. I'd do it all TBH!

ono, DD is starting with 4, one to be dropped at AS, but not sure which yet!

We have to wait till DH and DS come back from footy training to crack open the Wine I might have to have a snooze inbetweenWink

Auntpetunia2015 · 20/08/2015 17:11

Right I've trawled back and found the link to the grades. Have now emailed head of year 11 about 2 parts of 2 different exams being remarked and I've queried a couple of marks on the break down which make no sense in relation to the scores he got. He's off out to a gathering tonight so I've bought him j2o as he doesn't drink at all and we're having chippy tea. He's in school tomorrow sorting out 6th form and a level choices. Am so glad it's over xx

spud go for it, WineWineCake

Idefix · 20/08/2015 17:13

Late to the party but felt too stressed to even post before we knew the results.

Ds has done really well where we expected him to but was 4 marks short of what he needed for c in English Lang/lit Sad we were told this when we phoned the school by the head of English. We were told it would be put in for remarking...what are the chances? Ds has dyslexia and was given extra time for the exam but said this was his hardest exam and left him feeling drained.

We are very lucky that he is in a position to do his a levels and resit the English at the same time. Has been accepted for bio, phys and chem achieved As and high Bs in these and maths.

Now going off to drink Wine

WitchOfAlba · 20/08/2015 17:24

DD just needed her overall grades for 6th form and not all the unit marks. HTH.

SugarPlumTree · 20/08/2015 17:29

Definitely Wine Spud, I'm about to dig out the Baileys.

Idefix Inhave heard of grades going up on English remarks so fingers crossed for you.

Ono DD starting on 4 then in theory drops one at end of year but I think it is too much for her and am going to push for her to drop one pretty soon. I can kind of see the sense in trying them for a few weeks. Things like that people haven't done before can be different to what they expect (psychology is definitely one of these), the step up from GCSE to A level bigger than anticipated so it gives people a chance to try it out.

Errol good news on EPSmile

Chippy tea here, can't wait until bedtime.

Idefix · 20/08/2015 17:34

Sugar thanks for the glimmer of hope, we have our fingers crossed!
Now deffo off for a drink!

JugglingFromHereToThere · 20/08/2015 17:35

Found out relatively late on how DD has done - after her park picnic with friends - and we're all so pleased with her results ...

8 A's including in all her prospective A level subjects
3 B's (mainly where didn't quite finish some papers)
and a very pleasing A* in Art

Was a lovely moment seeing her come round the corner from the park looking so happy and relaxed. And really great that she can stay on at her lovely school into Sixth Form, with her friends too.

Well done to all - some lovely stories on here Thanks

spudmasher · 20/08/2015 17:41

Super news Juggling! Have a Wine!

grendel · 20/08/2015 17:46

Does anyone know why there were no actual marks for the Edexel maths exam, just the final grade? Or how we can obtain them? All the other subjects had a full breakdown of the marks. We need to see how close DD was to the grade boundary.

Also has anyone else experienced some bizarre grading of controlled assessments? DD's writing controlled assessment for French was graded as A internally but has come back as a D, bringing her overall grade down to a B when we expected A/A*.

SugarPlumTree · 20/08/2015 17:46

That's lovely news Juggling Smile

Enjoy that Wine Idefix DD's school is frankly a bit bad at English so have a couple of times sent a load back for remarks on those with D's, hence I've heard of a few increases.

JugglingFromHereToThere · 20/08/2015 17:47

Aww, thanks spud
Cheers! Wine

bigTillyMint · 20/08/2015 17:50

Great news Juggling!

tbtc20 · 20/08/2015 17:52

grendel do you mean the Mark Equivalent? DSs is written in in pen, by a teacher I presume. That doesn't answer your question, but lets you know you're not the only one.

grendel · 20/08/2015 18:07

Yes, tbtc20 the mark equivalent column is blank.
And her maths teacher has left the school, so I'm not sure who to contact there to find out more!

Horsemad · 20/08/2015 18:15

Whoo, great results everyone, have just read 5 pages to catch up! Smile Huge congrats to everyone's DC, especially Woolly and Eve. Star

All good here, DS got 2A*s, (Maths & Geog) 2As, 5Bs and a C. So we're very happy and feeling relieved it's all over. Smile
Signed up to 6thF to do Maths, F. Maths, History & Geog.

grendel, our Exams Officer was able to find out DS's Maths marks for us. Try school tomorrow.

Thanks for the company and support everyone, looking forward to going through A levels with you all Grin !!!!

SeaRabbit · 20/08/2015 18:20

Some wonderful results -I am so pleased for everyone especially the ones who've had the lovely surprises.

DS got 10 A*, A^ in FM, and an A in Eng Lang. Like a lot of people on the thread this Eng Lang grade was not as predicted - indeed the whole school's entry is going to be re-marked.

He got 100% in English Literature. How can you get 100% in an essay exam, it's daft.

His autistic friend did really well - he doesn't 'do' anything except sciences (which he does brilliantly -good A for all) but against all odds got A in Spanish despite not being psychologically able to do the oral exam.

ErrolTheDragon · 20/08/2015 18:40

Some more happy faces!

re the marks for the edexel maths - we also had no marks listed for the edexel igcse chemistry or the (I think) AQA igce Further maths.

ByTheSea · 20/08/2015 19:20

So happy with DD's results even though she is a disappointed there weren't more As. 3 x A, 6 *A, 2 x B - all academic subjects and at least A in those she will study at A-level. Having missed 40% of Year 9 and 20% of Year 11 due to serious illness, including several hospitalisations, she did face some real challenges. I am so impressed and proud of her and wish she would give herself more credit.

ByTheSea · 20/08/2015 19:22

And well done to all your DC!

ByTheSea · 20/08/2015 19:27

And forgot to say she got an A in the AS she took early. Very proud and not allowed to share anywhere.
