Verbena37 In practice, it would be highly unlikely that a classroom teacher would refuse a student permission to remove his or her blazer.

That's what I'm hoping......they were being a bit OTT about though.

I am a teacher in a school with blazers. On the whole, students come into the room, put down their books, remove their blazer and sit down. This is fine with me. On rare occasions, students come in a bit rudely, maybe continuing a corridor conversation or generally being a bit out of learning mode, and I will then say sarcastically, "Yes, you MAY take off your blazer", with a bit of an eye-roll (yes, I can be as childish as them haha). Then I remind them to put them on before they leave and, apart from a few girls who would rather do anything than wear their blazer, they do so without any fuss and troop off.

Wearing them in the corridors is another matter, though. Boys never seem to be a problem, but girls...

But surely after May time, blazers are totally unnecessary in the heat. When you're used to wearing a single shirt/blouse or top, why would you then wear a long sleeved, u breathable blazer to school or in the corridors etc? Bonkers.

Not sure about that, we have a summer uniform which is worn from 3rd May to the end of summer term and from the start of autumn term until 11th October. But we are in Spain.

Aha I see. Spain. Summer uniforms would make more sense here too.

Eldest teen will wear his Superdry coat when really cold, or will wear thermals under school shirt. Youngest son doesn't wear anything. Both will wear coats if really chucking it down.

Nothing, ds would rather freeze to death than wear anything else over the top,

Another one saying this ^

Gloves and a scarf maybe for the girls but it's astonishing how teens who spend their lives holed up under a duvet can survive arctic temperatures without a coat - must be all the attitude that keeps them warm Hmm

Thanks all.

Got the 3 in 1 coat from John Lewis in the end. Sized up and really impressed with it. Have taken out the fleece to keep for really cold days and the waterproof outer layer will fold up at the bottom of their rucksacks in case it is ever pouring. Fits perfectly over the blazer and looks smart.

They have an hour bus journey each way and a walk and wait before and after so feel happier that they have something for extreme conditions.
