Is it too early to start a 2016 girls 11+ W/SW London thread?

What do we think? DD is sitting 11+ for various consortium schools in January 2016 and I am slightly desperate for a thread to compare notes, pat each others shoulders etc..... I lurked on last years thread, but it didn't start until much later....

Just booking up open day places and filling in my registration forms now.....

Congrats to you hopeful123 and clever DD, lovely to get so many offers. Best of luck with the decisions.

argyle1234 · 13/02/2016 04:03

A very happy day for DD 3letters have arrived in the mail. Offers from G&L,NHEHS and saint helens. A little girl is very ecstatic finally smiles all round after dissapointment over city and habs results.

Crazy2016 · 13/02/2016 09:02

Congrats Argyle that is briliant . Any Emanuel results out there? Interested in how people got on with it this year and whether getting harder and harder.. Have a friend contemplating it for next year. Also do DC travel from west London for it on overland? Or is it still v local? Hope everyone ok!

Tunis92 · 13/02/2016 09:29

My DS got Emanuel, so delighted... It will involve overland from west London - any one else likely to be doing the journey?

lottiebear69 · 13/02/2016 09:44

Hi I have two dc at emanuel from class list most live Clapham battersea Wandsworth Putney barnes Southfields Wimbledon plus a couple Kennington way and 1 in Chiswick! For ease of hanging out in holidays etc obviously easier if they're close by and can get to mates by bus or train easily. They have fixtures on Saturdays and training for rugby if they selected after school 2 days a week til 5 so that hits rush hour trains so many collect their kids by car. Something to consider!

Hippo2016 · 13/02/2016 10:00

Hi Tunis. Yes we would be doing that journey for my DD who also got an emanuel offer. It would be from shepherd bush and am quite worried about journey... And all issues about friends and after school stuff etc

lottiebear69 · 13/02/2016 10:36

The good thing is that there are overground and lots of bus connections

Tunis92 · 13/02/2016 12:01

Hi lottiebear - how happy are you with the school? We really like what we have seen, but take your point on friends and rush hour seriously. We Are in Chiswick and huge range of overland options, but yes they are small to deal with sardine transportation.

KingscoteStaff · 13/02/2016 12:07

Last year I was posting as a mum!

This year I'm posting as a Year Six teacher saying if you are going to return a Putney High offer, please do it ASAP, as I have 3 super girls in my class at the top of the waiting list!

Hippo2016 · 13/02/2016 12:23

Tunis do you have other options too? We have one much more local single sex option and emanuel and one other in the middle distance too... Now a tough choice! So also v interested to hear from anyone with girls at DD and how they find it.

TeddTess · 13/02/2016 12:49

Tunis how do you get from Chiswick to Emmanuel?

Passionfruitmartini · 13/02/2016 15:18

Congratulation to those with offers and also to those on WL. I am so sorry that some received a NO. I do think the process is not entirely transparent and fair........more weight should be placed on consistent good performace at school - looking at least to year 5 and 6 reports and the headmaster/teachers view/recommendation on the child. It is harsh to have so many dc rejected based on one test.

My DD received CLGS, and several others sought after schools, we are So so proud and happy for her. She was also wearing a big smile.

Trying now to weight all of them and make a decision asap, so that others can a have a happy smile if on WL.
We need a holiday after this!

Tunis92 · 13/02/2016 15:28

Teddies - Chiswick train station 15 mins on overland and a 10 min walk, or south Acton train to Richmond and train there to Clspham... Again under 40 mins when it all goes well.

Eastpoint · 13/02/2016 19:01

Lots of children catch the tube to Richmond & then switch to the overground. There are more trains from Richmond & it's quicker than catching the E3.

MissCellaneous · 13/02/2016 19:16

Emanuel must be very oversubscribed. Much emphasis on the arts/music/sports etc. Siblings and scholars of the aforementioned leaves very little space for anyone else (75 places for 640 applicants). My DS's firm offers were at Kings (Wimbledon), Hampton and Kingston Grammar but he is waiting list at Emanuel! I think Emanuel should move a little when Dulwich, Alleyns and Grammars sorted out.

MissCellaneous · 13/02/2016 19:30

I should also add when Trinity, Whitgift and girls schools I have no knowledge of move you may be pleasantly surprised.

pearlmummy · 14/02/2016 08:51

Miscellaneous - do you know which school you are going to take?

lottiebear69 · 14/02/2016 09:58

Tunis92 my dc love it at emanuel and as parents we're happy too. We moved up from a state primary and So did a lot of the other children there. From my experience of the school so far most parents are like us hard working and normal! Only a couple of kids with ponies!! So it's kept real! They are quick to contact you when you're child is not hitting the right scores too. well done on getting an offer as there are now 2 year 6 classes going up so 40 children plus siblings who can score lower so your child had done really well. Hope that helps

2serious · 14/02/2016 10:57

Huge congratulations to everyone with the offers, well done to you and your DCs. My dd passed her interview at KGS 10plus and received an offer too, she is over the moon happy.
And to those still waiting for news- I hope the wait lists will move quickly. Flowers

MissCellaneous · 14/02/2016 15:29

Hi Pearlmummy. I PM'd you Smile

worriedmummy786 · 17/02/2016 11:59

Hi,
My daughter has been offered a place at OP with a scholarship and I also am 99% sure that she will be offered a Wallington place (based on her Nonsuch score and distance to school). Does anyone have any experience of Wallington girls vs Old Palace Seniors? We are in a real dilemma and don't want to make a wrong choice! If anyone can offer any wise words it would be greatly appreciated smile Also to mention that she is currently in a prep school (not OP).

mummyinatizz · 17/02/2016 12:25

Hi worriedmummy786

We too were offered a small scholarship at OP, but have decided to turn down and take another school, on basis of a few reasons, incl transport/location school. We're Clapham-way and have not applied to any grammars.

My DD loved OP and I think she would have done well there, just a gut feel other school is slightly more right for her.

good luck with your decision!

worriedmummy786 · 17/02/2016 13:38

mummyinatizz - thank you so much, i guess there is no right and wrong choice just what fits you and your daughter best

mummyinatizz · 22/02/2016 09:58

This thread has gone quiet. Are minds made up for those lucky to have various offers?
