I think we've all walked on eggshells around our teenagers during their exams and they've got used to it. Returning to normal and having to pick up their own washing etc has come as a shock.

Have got a grip now! Grin It's typical for that to happen when MY DC is there though Hmm

SugarPlumTree · 21/07/2015 14:11

Totally get it Horsemad, the whole typhoon thing freaked me a bit.

Good to hear they are all a little self centred right now and I think you are spot on HSM.

Errol, I should have thought that through a bit before asking! Your DD is very impressive Smile

bigTillyMint · 21/07/2015 15:00

Oh yes, self-centred teens. I can sympathise! We have quite a bit of that here, especially with DD.

Horse, not surprising you were worried - did you see his mum being interviewed?!

Horsemad · 21/07/2015 16:16

No, BTM, I didn't! Smile

HSMMaCM · 21/07/2015 19:41

His mum said she saw it live on tele and was on her feet trying to rescue him through the screen. She'd already lost his brother, some years ago.

OMG, his poor mother watching that! Shock

ErrolTheDragon · 21/07/2015 22:04

Doesn't bear thinking about. Sad Puts all our various worries and kid's foibles into perspective.

SugarPlumTree · 22/07/2015 07:16

That makes me go cold just reading it, certainly does put things into perspective.

auntpetunia · 23/07/2015 10:05

I watched that with my heart in my mouth God knows how his mum felt.

48 hrs till DS is off to Japan. Bag pretty much packed just a few last minute bits to get today in town. DD has decided to grow 2+ inches so needs some new shorts, despite hot pant type being the fashion Hers are indecent.
Hope your Dd has remembered her manners now sugar?

ErrolTheDragon · 23/07/2015 10:09

DH has taken DD into town to set her up with some sort of current account - another little rite of passage.

auntpetunia · 24/07/2015 21:27

Oh god its tomorrow! !! Feeling very very ill at the thought of ds going off to Japan. Bags all packed alarms set for 2.45AM. Going to try and get some sleep. He will be all right........

ErrolTheDragon · 24/07/2015 21:40

AuntP - of course he'll be all right. Its a whole load of Scouts isn't it - surely that much combined preparedness should be able to deal with any eventuality.

Hope you get some sleep now.

SugarPlumTree · 24/07/2015 21:52

He absolutely will be alright AP, he'll be more than alright and will have a great time. I felt sick when DD went.

Horsemad · 24/07/2015 22:13

He'll be fine AuntP. Was speaking to a Scout Leader today and this trip sounds amazing.
There's a thread on Chat, lots of people have DC going. Smile

TheWoollybacksWife · 24/07/2015 22:58

Oh AuntP he'll be grand and will have a fantastic time. What an amazing experience for him.

WineFor you.

SugarPlumTree · 24/07/2015 23:27

I am really pleased DD went (despite wanting to send her back at one point last week!). It has taken her out of the little bubble we live in here and given her a lot of confidence plus friends around the World.

bigTillyMint · 25/07/2015 05:59

AP, shorts like that are known as battyriders round our way! Good Luck to your DS - he will have a fab timeSmile I think a friends DD and others are off there too.

We are having a lovely time in NZ - beautiful blue skies and sunny winter weather here in Christchurch. And our old friends - DHs BF and family - fantastic!

auntpetunia · 25/07/2015 06:11

Oi Btm you can't diss the scout shorts! The legs in them yeah but not the shorts. I've got family in Christchurch, never been but always looks gorgeous. Have a great time.

Well he's gone, he was very calm cool and relaxed. I was a jumpy nervous wreck. He's been hugged and kissed more than he's been since he was little. I've triple checked passport and money and judging by the weight of the bag he's got plenty of stuff. I've loaded snap chat on my tablet so I can keep in touch if I get wifi in the mountains.

SugarPlumTree · 25/07/2015 08:40

It is nerve wracking bundling them off so far away Flowers

How good that he is all calm and collected, DD was nearly throwing up with nerves bless her. She wouldn't next time she goes anywhere though, she has the travel bug.

This bit is the worst bit, once they are there and you know they are having a good time it gets easier.

spudmasher · 25/07/2015 20:26

AuntP, I'm sure a great time will be had. When will you hear that they have arrived safely etc? That will help.

BigTillyMint, enjoy your time in NZ. Sounds amazing. It's been raining in SE London. A lot.

auntpetunia · 25/07/2015 21:16

Oh spud I'm well ahead of you, I've got flight tracker installed so I know he's now over Iran/Pakistan border, he was an hour delayed leaving Abu Dabi and it's now midnight ish where they are!! Ive seen pics on their twitter page of him before boarding and on the plane , I'm probably more aware of where he is than he is.

spudmasher · 25/07/2015 21:19

Oh well done. I'm liking your style! If DD ever flies off I'll need to get you to show me how to do that. He'll be having the time of his life.
Social media is so very very useful.....

Horsemad · 25/07/2015 21:59

Social media is great for these times (except DS doesn't communicate, grrr!!!)

HSMMaCM · 26/07/2015 09:48

I'm stressing about DD heading off to Wales. Pales into insignificance against your DCs. Grin
