Well done Spud ' s DD and AuntPetunia ' s DD Smile

Phone went 1.30am marked as an international call but no one there when I picked up. Have contacted DD who has confirmed not her , phew. Just checking not about one of the parents.

bigTillyMint · 16/07/2015 07:30

Oh Spud, that's unnerving. Could she have accidentally pushed a button? Or maybe it's just a freak call?

DD was very happy when she came in yesterday - her lovely friends had organised a surprise BBQ for her (which I knew aboutWink) up a hill in the park last night and then sleepover (when they finally got to bed!) and then shopping yesterday. She came back with a load of teeny tops for ReadingSmile

And apparently told DH she might do the (massive amount of) homework for the first choice school, just in caseShock

DS has just departed for school where they're catching a coach to the airport, now I can relax. Smile He flies this evening, so a long day for them!

Off to work for me now - have a good day everyone!

Your DS made me laugh auntpetunia Grin

switchitoff · 16/07/2015 10:17

auntpetunia - that made me smile about your DS' packing. Sorry to be sexist, but what is it about males and packing? XH has sent me a packing list for the DCs' two week holiday with him which reads as follows:

2-3 T-shirts
1 formal shirt
1 trousers
1 shorts
swimwear

This is to include what they are wearing on the plane!!!

HSMMaCM · 16/07/2015 11:22

Switch I'd be tempted to pack what is on his list, but it seems a shame not to have a change of underwear Grin

Yes Grin.....or a jumper, or a coat.

ErrolTheDragon · 16/07/2015 13:54

My DH goes the other way - for some reason always thinks he'll want more than he really needs, and man-clothes are so much bigger than small-woman/girl clothes, takes up more than his fair share Grin.

ErrolTheDragon · 16/07/2015 17:15

DD has got her Arkwright engineering scholarship!! Grin

bigTillyMint · 16/07/2015 17:22

Well done Errol's DDFlowers

Horsemad · 16/07/2015 17:42

Well Done to your DD Errol Smile

auntpetunia · 16/07/2015 17:49

Brilliant news errol one thing less to worry about.

I've convinced (told) DS that he needs more clothes than that, he knows who hes staying with now so he's gone into town to get a gift, 17 yr old female venture scout , him and his mate chuffed not to have 75 yr old commissionaire! His girlfriend not so keen.

switchitoff · 16/07/2015 17:58

Wow, well done Errol's DD!!

spudmasher · 16/07/2015 19:01

Errol, well done to your DD. That sounds so cool. DD2 is showing engineering leanings. I'd love to know more.

The clothes packing for boys is hilarious. Who needs clean pants???!!

HSMMaCM · 16/07/2015 19:47

DD has just found out her sixth form options clash and she needs to re choose !!!

TeenAndTween · 16/07/2015 19:50

Well done Errol's DD.

HSM - any other 6th forms around where she can do desired options?

HSMMaCM · 16/07/2015 19:56

There is another sixth form, but she wants to stay at her school sixth form. We'll see if we can find a compromise or not.

OP posts:
spudmasher · 16/07/2015 20:20

What are the choices HSM? It must be very annoying to not be able to study what you want. The choices at this stage can impact upon degree choices.

HSMMaCM · 16/07/2015 20:30

She wants to do dance drama biology psychology. Biology is in two boxes, but clashes with dance in one and drama in the other. Her alternative is maybe chemistry, but that clashes with psychology in one box, but not another. Backup plan would be classical civilisation. My choices would be biology chemistry psychology and classical civilisation, but she's the one that has to do the study and loves dance and drama. I'd hate to see her close down her future choices now, but for personal reasons her happiness is the most important thing at the moment.

Sixth form have a long consultation process over the summer, so she has time to think about it.

OP posts:
spudmasher · 16/07/2015 21:04

Right. So can she do LAMDA instead of drama? Or can she do dance at a studio instead? Where are you based?

HSMMaCM · 16/07/2015 21:19

Thanks spud. She's done some Lamda grades and has advanced dance, so technically she doesn't need to do dance or drama.

I am having to balance her delicate emotional wellbeing against sensible choices. I will take it slowly and try and encourage her to drop a non essential subject. although I have been working on this plan for a while already

OP posts:
HSMMaCM · 16/07/2015 21:21

School is in Hampshire, so plenty of other choices, but I'm reluctant to move her base at the moment.

OP posts:
spudmasher · 16/07/2015 22:01

Sounds tricky. I think time will be the big player here. There will come a point where a decision has to be made. You're obviously supporting her and setting out the choices and when the time comes, you'll frame it all for her. I think it's all about her feeling in control of what happens and you've made sure all the information is there. All bases covered. The outcome will be positive.

HSMMaCM · 16/07/2015 22:38

I'm hoping all my advice is being absorbed. Thanks spud.

ErrolTheDragon · 16/07/2015 23:38

It's a bugger when they do know what subjects they want to do but then for whatever reason they can't. Hope she ends up with a combination she's happy with that make sense.

HSMMaCM · 17/07/2015 01:27

Thanks Errol
