If she has flown a fair bit T&T am sure she'll be fine. I think. We wouldn't have gone for UM if it had been a straightforward European flight even with DD'S lack of flying.

She has arrived safely but is shattered so trying to get some rest before she starts classes on Monday. Not a lot of sleep for DH and I either with the storm and waiting to check she landed safely. One more night at first host family then off to the main one who have wifi thank goodness.

That sounds entirely reasonable Errol ! I promised not to tidy DD'S room. DH says he promised no such thing...

HSMMaCM · 04/07/2015 11:51

Errol if you have permission to 'enter', then I think you can do what you like once you're in there.

Good luck to all the travelling and trekking DCs.

Safe journey and good luck to those travelling.

For the first time in 16 years my dd's room looks beautiful. We have emptied, painted and renovated and her new furniture looks amazing. Think beach / coastal theme. Not one piece of mess in site. Bliss. Smile

spudmasher · 04/07/2015 13:51

I've tried to put a prom pic on my profile but it's showing as a blue question mark. If you can see it, dd is the one in the gold sequins.

HSMMaCM · 05/07/2015 12:48

Went away with my mum and sister for a couple of days this week. They asked DD what A levels she's chosen.

She said she wants to do dance and drama, but can't choose between biology, chemistry, psychology and classical civilisation. I though she'd decided against classical civilisation, but it seems to be back on the list now.

On the plus side ... She got a high merit for her advanced foundation ballet, which she took the day before he first GCSE.

Another one here whose teen is flying by themselves tomorrow. I have told DS1 that if he hasn't sorted out his room before he goes away, that gives me permission to enter, wearing a bio-hazard suit and deal with everything as I see fit. Cue much huffing and puffing by DS, followed by crashing and banging within the room which I'm hoping may be him actually addressing his floordrobe.

DS2 is already overseas on a school trip, so tomorrow I will come home to an empty house. Shock

bigTillyMint · 05/07/2015 16:09

Hope all the travelling teens go well and safely.

Here DD and I went shopping this morning and found her some prom stilts shoes, then I used MILs sewing machine to take up her prom dress. She and her friend seem to be sorting out booking make up and hair, so just a clutch to find her now I thinkSmile
She has a Taster day tomorrow for her no.1 choice sixth form tomorrow and seems a bit anxious, but has said she is meeting her friend outside the pub to walk there, so fingers crossed.

Littleham · 05/07/2015 17:31

Hope her prom goes well bigTilly.

Well done on your dd's ballet result HSMM.

My dd is travelling with friends on three bus changes deep into the SW.

Horsemad · 05/07/2015 18:11

Great ballet result HSMMaCM Smile

DS is in France and due home tomorrow, haven't heard a thing from him Hmm. Luckily a parent on the trip text me so I know they arrived safely! DS1 is 18 on Tues, so birthday arrangements are being finalised - no party, family celebration.

I thought it'd quieten down once exams were finished but we still seem to be on the hamster wheel... Hmm

Beautiful spud

Lovely to hear how busy DC are jetting off all over, taster says etc.
Sat dd down tonight and asked her to draw up some sort of a budget for bits/ activities over the long break. I feel like I'm haemorrhaging money at the moment and it needs reining in! I think a weekly amount would be better for dd. She's got three weeks work on minimum wage for a 16 year old but that's it.
What are you all doing about spends over the break?

Littleham · 05/07/2015 20:36

Fabulous photo spudmasher. Sixteen year olds are so elegant these days. Beautiful dresses.

Not sure I am a good one to give advice about budgets at the moment! A weekly allowance seems a good idea.

spudmasher · 05/07/2015 20:41

I thought weekly because if I give her a month's money, she'll blow it in one go. But part of me wants to teach her a lesson and for that to happen so then she knows about planning her expenditure......

bigTillyMint · 05/07/2015 21:30

Spud, she looks stunning.

I have only given DD the odd fiver or tenner so far as she works and has plenty saved and there's only 2 more weeks and we'll be going away on holiday. She has a bank account, but doesn't like drawing money out! Most of what she does is hanging out with mates and the odd meal out. In your case, I think I would give her a weekly allowance, counting up for meals not eaten at home and the odd activity. If she runs out before the end of the week down to poor planning, then toughWink

HSMMaCM · 05/07/2015 21:41

DD is supposed to be working for me this holiday. She's going out tomorrow evening and had asked for money, so I've told her she can earn £5 per hour tomorrow, so it's up to her how much she wants.

Rather in awe of all these jetting kids! DD is presumably in a tent in a rather nice part of the Yorkshire dales at the moment.

Horsemad · 05/07/2015 23:18

Another gorgeous prom pic, she is stunning Spud Smile

LineRunner · 06/07/2015 08:42

Wow, Spud, they do look elegant.

DS wore a black suit, white shirt and black tie. I really wanted to put a black pork pie hat on him and call him 'Elwood' but he didn't get the reference Smile

ErrolTheDragon · 06/07/2015 23:57

Pity I don't have a pic of dd when she got home this afternoon as a contrast to all this elegance. She brushed and replaited her hair yesterday morning, since when she'd walked about 25km in wind and heavy rain, slept in a tent and then walked some more. Grin

HSMMaCM · 07/07/2015 07:29

44 days to results.

Off on holiday soon. That should distract us for a couple of weeks.

HSMMaCM · 07/07/2015 07:30

Errol - you should have definitely taken before and after pics.

Looks from other threads as if SAT results are out, doubt DS' s will turn up till end of term. I care not one tiny bit about them .

The thought of the GCSE'S however make me feel somewhat queasy...

Last (and only) update from DD seemed pretty upbeat which was more of a relief than I can put into words.

bigTillyMint · 08/07/2015 11:54

Glad to hear that your DD has contacted your SugarPlum, and great that she was upbeat.

DD's Taster Day didn't go too well for her - she was very apprehensive before-hand, and then felt that the Pastoral Care wasn't as warm as she had hoped and is very worried that it isn't the right place for her. I am hoping that she will agree to go with DH/I to meet the person who would be her HoY and find out a bit more, but it looks like it is no longer her first choice. It is a big jump to a new Sixth Form, and especially for herConfused
