Is it time for this? I mean those of us with kids who will not get 11 As in their GCSEs, or 4 As at A level.

I know most mumsnetters will not be in this particular boat Wink but quite frankly in this house we just have fingers crossed for a C at GCSE English language for DD2, so she can get into 6th form and dance to her heart's content, and for DD1 good enough results to get into Y14 to finish off her media studies A level (started too late in Y11 to finish this time round).

They are not knuckle draggers, or indeed thick as pig shit (both comments I have read on here). They work hard, are good kids - but a row of A*s will not be on the agenda.

Join me please if you feel the same!

Well, she thinks Physics went OK. All done now!

Hope those still going manage to keep the motivation and energy up for the next week.

I'm now going to try to ignore results and implications of such until 10am 20th August.

yolofish · 12/06/2015 23:52

physics 2 today was apparently "really easy to blag". I am not sure if ths induces confidence or not... but yes teen, get the buggering exams done and forget til Aug 20!

was chatting with our head this morning. she said that what is strange about maths is that the calc paper is actually much harder than the non-calc one, but in our school kids do much better on calc... maths is a whole subject area we are addressing as a school.

in other news: yesterdays A level sociology was OK and GCSE media was good. DD2 is off today, she's knackered and has to go in tomorrow for a full day of statistics, then half a day of statistics for her final exam on Thurs. Off to collect DD1 in a minute, no idea if she is going to school tomorrow!

OP posts:
yolofish · 17/06/2015 22:32

major panic here tonight: DD1 says she hasnt been taught the stuff she will need for A level sociology tomorrow... dear god stress levels are high, but I have finally convinced her to go to bed

SugarPlumTree · 18/06/2015 06:57

Yolo I feel for you Flowers friend in your position with GCSE and A2 and sounding very close to the edge at the moment. There is a degree of blagability in Sociology, fingers crossed for her.

What are her plans for September?

yolofish · 18/06/2015 08:45

oh well its the last day for us... DD1 not in a good frame of mind for 2 hours of sociology, DD2 doesnt really care about stats!
sugar she's going to do Y14 to do 2nd year of media - started it too late to get it done this year. will be quite good for her I think - and who knows, maybe she'll retake sociology!!

OP posts:
SugarPlumTree · 18/06/2015 17:04

So glad for you that it's the end Smile how did they get on? Year 14 takes the pressure off then. DD will hopefully be doing media,

iloveport · 18/06/2015 18:03

This has been such a nice and supporting thread.

yolofish · 18/06/2015 23:25

ALL OVER!!!! Sociology was "ok" which was considerably better than expected this morning. Statistics was also "ok" but DD2 then had dance club so had forgotten all about it anyway. There is a kind of feeling of flatness somehow - think we are all knackered. DD1 still has to go in for a few lessons because they're alreay starting next years media work, but she's hoping to be signed off to do the work from home. DD2 gets all of next week off then back in for 3 days 6th form induction, then still dancing 2 nights a week (and 6 nights a week for show week 3rd week of July). so we are off the daily school treadmill but still a bit of to-ing and fro-ing...

Anyone else still going? I read the other exam thread, but never post as most people seem to be worried about A* and A and B grades... as opposed to scraping in with a C if we're lucky.

OP posts:
SugarPlumTree · 19/06/2015 19:40

Yolo, celebration time Wine Glad they finished on an OK. We were definitely all knackered when DD finished, takes a few days to ge out of exam mode we found.

We're definitely all about C's here and scraping enough to get onto a L3 course next year (fingers firmly crossed).

TeenAndTween · 19/06/2015 20:34

Perhaps we should resurrect this for 20th August, to avoid the "I'm really upset, DS only got 8A and 2As, not the 10A he was hoping for" comments.
Instead we could delight in every pass.

yolofish · 19/06/2015 21:12

oh yes teen good idea! thanks everyone for joining in, lets keep everything crossed that Aug 20 brings those magic Cs for our babies xx

I have loved this thread. DD is likely to be in the same position in a couple of years so I have found it massively encouraging. Good luck to all your DCs as they enjoy the end of exams and wait for results.

iloveport · 20/06/2015 10:33

MLP same here too with DS in couple of yrs. We've got to start our own thread then Smile

yolofish · 09/07/2015 22:56

good news: DD2 got an A* for her ECDL!! and I have booked tickets for Dirty Dancing at our local theatre for the evening of GCSE results day - celebration or commiseration, I dont care, they worked SO hard

OP posts:
nicoleshitzinger · 10/07/2015 08:18

I've got fingers, toes, extra-curricula digits of all description crossed for 5 'C's for dd (including maths, science and English please!) so dd can do the course she wants to do in September.

We're so, so happy she even sat her exams.

She didn't open a book or attend school for (most of) the two months prior to the exams so we shall see....

nicoleshitzinger · 10/07/2015 08:19

Well done Yolofish's dd! Smile

My dd also spent a week doing it after her exams and got an A.

Really happy with her school that they made this available for her.

yolofish · 28/07/2015 22:52

Just refreshing... just over 2 weeks til A level results and 3 til GSCE.

DD1 has announced that if her A level results (plus next year's part time A level) do not produce enough UCAS points she will go and do a BASIE ski instructor course instead. that's fine, but it costs about 7k and no funding available.

In the meantime,DD2 is painting everything that moves for cash and devoting a LOT of time to jigsaw puzzles?!

OP posts:
TeenAndTween · 29/07/2015 10:17

I'm starting to feel nervous about results, luckily we are quite busy for the next 3 weeks. DD1 worked hard, so deserves to pass everything, but some of the exams did not go so well.

Where do we go after this? DD1 will be doing a BTEC. Do we stay on Secondary Education, or move to the Further Education board? It would be nice to stay together.

yolofish · 13/08/2015 16:39

any other A level results?

DD1 got a C for photography, which I think is pretty good as the photog grade boundaries are ridiculously high. C for AS media, which is also respectable as can get it up to a B next year hopefully. And, um an E for sociology which is not at all great. Not sure if she will retake or not; she's doing Y14 to finish off media and will probably do EP to see if she can rake up enough UCAS points for uni.

oh god got to do it all over again next week for GCSEs... for some reason I am completely shattered this afternoon, think it is the pre-result mental trauma. DD1 seems absolutely fine though!

offtofeedthesheep · 15/08/2015 14:01

Can I join you please!! Wish I had discovered you earlier! I am so nervous waiting for DS1 GCSE results - he needs 5 Cs to stay at sixth form.

yolofish · 17/08/2015 00:29

course you can join! the more the merrier! we are waiting for (I think) DD1's 9th attempt at maths GCSE. honestly, if she hasnt passed this time I am seriously considering forging the bloody certificate. DD2 needs to pass english to get into 6th form, she did IGCSE so should be a possibility.

dreading thursday but am getting them both to do jobs around the house for cash so that should keep them busy.

OP posts:
Leeds2 · 17/08/2015 00:43

Good Luck to your DDs for their English and Maths, Yolo. I hope they get the C they need.

SugarPlumTree · 17/08/2015 07:23

No A level results but friends' children. One missed her AAB A2 offer with BCD then for AS there were two U's in Maths, a U in Physics and E in Biology for another friend. They all got good GCSE's so the whole thing made me very twitchy.

Well done to your DD Yolo. DD wants to do Photography and a BTEC media and then Art or Sociology. U can see her retaking Maths forever.

I think I can kiss goodbye to sleep until Thursday, last night was a very broken night.

DD needs 4 C's ad they are counting her Japanese thing as the 5th. It's going to be tight.

offtofeedthesheep · 17/08/2015 11:58

Thanks Yolo. Hi to everyone else! We are lucky that he dosen't need English or maths to stay at school, any 5 will do! In all the maths mocks he was either 1 mark under a C or 1 mark into the C, so really will depend on grade boundaries/the paper, but really think he will be resiting for a few more years!!

DS has now gone away for 2 weeks leaving me to worry and collect the results for him!!
