Have not been offered any of out preferred schools, help

I can't believe it. My poor DD hasn't been offered anything from our list (which were all 'catchment' schools.) They have offered her a place at a 'catholic' school that is miles away, minimum 3 buses through some very dodgy areas. She can not go there. We are not even catholic. It looks like I now have to appeal for all of our catchment schools. Other than 'locality' can anybody give advice on how to successfully appeal. I can't believe that we are in a position where she has not been offered any of our local schools.

As others have said that really doesn't make sense. If you would like to PM me the names of the schools and LA involved I'll take a look and see if I can figure out what is going on.

JugglingLife · 10/03/2015 05:34

Thanks everyone, I have an FOI request in which includes that question. Prh, I have PM'd you.

Admission, I literally mean that 'the park' is apparently removed. It's not a little park, it's ginormous. Kids do not walk through it, far too big, they get the bus around it. Of course, it could be one of those local rumours. And if it's true then I guess several years ago that may have worked but of course the extremes of our area have grown and grown with no new school provision. You can imagine my reaction to the 'free schools' on last nights news can't you! Angry

Just a quick update, the wonderful prh (thankyou) has taken a peek and can find nothing to substantiate that rumour. More homework for me I guess. Thanks prh, very, very much appreciated.

She's finally had an offer from a school in a different LEA, it's not perfect but it is so much better than our original offer and if we actually lived in that area it would have been our first choice school. Obviously we'll remain on wait list for our local school. Have just realised they have different holidays! How bizarre! Their results are higher than average and they have great sports facilities which is very high on our list of priorities. Less than an hour to get there too. That sense of blind panic has gone now, thank goodness.

Glad you've got an improved offer, who knows what will happen over the next few months.

JugglingLife · 18/03/2015 17:58

Does anybody know whether she will still be entitled to a travel pass if it's a different LEA?

Yes she will.

Flossiechops · 18/03/2015 21:23

Juggling I have been keeping a look out for an update. So glad you have some positive news & it must be a massive relief to at least have somewhere you feel confident in sending her even though it's not your first choice. I think there will be a lot of movement over the coming months so fingers crossed for somewhere suitable closer to home x

prh47bridge · 18/03/2015 22:08

If this school is further away by the shortest safe walking route than the school you were originally offered your daughter will not be entitled to free transport. However, if it is nearer she will be entitled provided it is over 3 miles walking distance away. The fact that it is in a different LA does not make any difference.

They've put a bulge class on! She's in! I can not believe it, never been done before, all her friends are in too. Life is lovely!

The best news you could receive on a Friday afternoon.

Pleased for you

stilllearnin · 20/03/2015 17:36

Wow that's fantastic! You must feel so relieved. We're still on the thick of it all, but so lovely to think someone has good news Grin

Flossiechops · 20/03/2015 17:54

OMGEEEEE!! I'm so pleased for you. It's a superb school and looks amazing! Wow what a suprise! SmileSmileSmile

JugglingLife · 20/03/2015 19:22

Still shocked, we had evidence to show that they knew they were a form entry short this year and to be fair they have stepped up to the mark prior to appeals. We are celebrating!

Thanks flossie, such a relief not just for DD but for DS who will follow. Any news from your side?

I bet you screamed with joy when you got the news!! I know what you mean too as ds is going to senior school next September so the stress is over (although he is now saying he wants to sit the eleven plus - arghhh!) I haven't heard of any movement at all yet on this side of Sutton C. My lovely friends dd is 27th on list for PB but not sure how it will turn out for her. So glad for you what a massive relief & such a fab school too SmileSmile

prh47bridge · 21/03/2015 00:11

I'm really pleased for you. Excellent news.

JugglingLife · 21/03/2015 07:16

Flossie I don't think the admissions officer has time to ring everybody yesterday, letters have apparently gone out though. Thanks everybody, you've been so supportive.
