We have put an out of catchment school as first choice. Second choice is our catchment school. Some years we would get into our first choice, some years we would not. So we are anxiously awaiting the email...

Another London-Surrey type clocking in to drum fingers impatiently.

i HOPE Ds is likely to get into his first choice, as we moved nearer to the school in time for it to 'count' - but it will be tough as most of his close mates (who he & I have known since nursery) are likely to be going elsewhere. Hearing will make that feel more real for both of us I think Sad

harryhausen · 02/03/2015 13:55

Wellwellwell, I thought the school didn't ever know how you placed them? Only the LEA tell them how many pupils qualified for a space etc? Is it different with an Academy?

loona13 · 02/03/2015 14:09

Is it today in London??? We were told 5.03... Oh well, just missed half a day of biting fingernails Wink

Tanaqui · 02/03/2015 14:20

Today by email/ online, tomorrow by postSmile

Wellwellwell3holesintheground · 02/03/2015 14:25

Not an academy yet but they had space to increase so could say that it was OK for first time applicants - they were previously undersubscribed. DD's friend has got it as her second choice too.

var123 · 02/03/2015 14:31

For those waiting to hear from London & Surrey admissions, I just checked the time I got the email for Ds1 a couple of years ago: 19:49.

So, unless you are very patient, it may be worth logging in (but please don't flood the system until I've had a chance first!!!) Grin

ChippyMinton · 02/03/2015 14:40

var123 - last year I had logged on, accepted the place and taken DC out for a celebration dinner before the email arrived!

SlightlyJadedJack · 02/03/2015 14:44

Got ours today by email - we're in our first choice, yay! Hope you all get the places you are waiting for.

swampytiggaa · 02/03/2015 14:50

I only applied to one school. Only senior school in town - son already there. It has gone into special measures last week but I have no concerns about the school at all and see that as a positive.

Hope everyone hears soon :) am in Devon and got my email at 9am. Some friends are still waiting tho...

May I offer some constructive advice from someone who endured this last year? Please think carefully about appealing - I found it hard work, time consuming and very stressful. I submitted 2 but didn't win either - sort of knew this would be the outcome, but wanted to try all avenues. On paper the schools in question offered pretty much the same facilities across the board but putting aside my likes and dislikes, yes, our DS would have got an education at the offered (failing) school. Just not the secondary experience we wanted him to have. As we were number 32 on the waiting list for our first choice school, we moved to the catchment of this school (at huge expense and upheaval) but stuck to the rules and our DC are where we wanted them to be. People do win appeals, but I'm sure tiggy or prh can give you more accurate figures as to actually how many (or how few). Forewarned is forearmed, knowledge is power, etc.
I just wish that there were not so many sub standard schools and then so much angst could be avoided.

Good luck to everyone still waiting and commiserations or congratulations to those who have already had their e-mails.

I'm not waiting for anything today (I went through it this time last year), but am already working myself up about DD's primary school offer e-mail due in April! As DS2 has moved up to secondary we have no sibling link so not sure how it's going to go. I understand how stressful this all this, lots of Wine and Cake needed all round.

smellylittleorange · 02/03/2015 15:12

upacoconuttree Hants has the same going back 4 years it is a good document to help assess likelihood of getting a place but beware people should not be used to assume you will get a place - the schools landscape is changing so rapidly!

TranquilityofSolitude · 02/03/2015 15:13

We won an appeal in 2009. There were 40 for the school and 12 were successful. I would agree that it was enormously stressful and that the uncertainty was very difficult to manage, especially as other children in DD's class already knew things like which houses they were in at their new schools before we even had a place. Our appeal was held in May and we heard that we had been successful in mid-June. In the period between March and June I thought about little else and DD was noticeably unhappy. I did wonder if we were doing the right thing because it was clearly very stressful and unsettling for a 10 year old. In retrospect I am glad we persisted with it and DD has been very happy in the school we appealed for, but it was a very difficult time.

miffyandsnoopy · 02/03/2015 15:16

Just had our email, and as expected we got our fourth choice. Not what we want at all, the two top ones are also local but popular and over subscribed and we live nearest to the failing school.... Even though I expected it I am so sad, I don't want to tell him. We are going to have to to hold out hope for continuing interest and try an appeal.

AnotherNewt · 02/03/2015 15:17

The London/Surrey pan admissions website just says this evening. They must have hundreds of emails to send, and all the applicant pages to update. And my guess is that they start just as offices close tonight, on purpose so everyone with unwelcome news has had a few hours to calm down and think about what they are going to say before hitting the phones!

And I bet there are probably some very nervous techies, hoping that it all moves according to plan, but ready to swoop in if any of it falls over.

loona13 · 02/03/2015 15:23

I keep reading and am not sure now if I check the same website..? Mine one doesn't say anything about the evening ConfusedI need to log in to eadmissions.org.uk right? And app is ParentComms?

theITgirl · 02/03/2015 15:25

Dd got her first choice. In east herts, but near beginning of alphabet. Hope the rest of you find out soon.

ChaiseLounger · 02/03/2015 15:38

Still Waiting, for evening email from Surrey. Oh this is so painful.

sunnydayinmay · 02/03/2015 15:49

SW herts scores are out too. DS1 got his first choice. So relieved!

(waves to my friend who has confessed she is following this thread and recognises me!)

TheFirstOfHerName · 02/03/2015 15:54

Have received emails from Herts. Both children got their first preference. Good luck to anyone still waiting.

ChaiseLounger · 02/03/2015 15:56

Congrats to all those who have had the result that they wanted.
Is it mainly just Herts so far today then?

sunnydayinmay · 02/03/2015 16:02

Good news TheFirstof... such a relief it's all sorted. Waiting to hear how my friends did (quiet on fb at the moment.)

Areyouforreal1 · 02/03/2015 16:06

And Essex which came in overnight
