Oh dear mumslife, that is not great. We are hoping that the glasses issue could solve things for dd but we are still going to explore the TMJ option. Dd has had a brace since before she started Y7 and she still has it as the orthodontist has been slowly moving her jaw rather than her having to have surgery. That could be a potential cause of the headaches.

hellsbells99 · 10/01/2015 23:39

My DD wears a mouth guard at night for TMJ and that has reduced the amount of times she wakes up with a headache - but she alternates it with wearing her retainer!

Good to know hellsbells - if the glasses don't work then we weill definitely look into this.

mumslife - a cautionary tale for your dd! I finished orthodontics (when I was 16) and I wasn't given a retainer or told anything about the importance of retention. By the time I was at university my teeth had already moved back to their old position. I ended up paying thousands as an adult to have adult orthodontics and I now wear a retainer every night.

Ooh, DS2 has a retainer and is a devil for forgetting to wear it! I have said he'll pay for the dental work if it needs doing again.

Choosing the firm and insurance is a difficult matter but if your Dc likes Birmingham and has reasonable chance of grades - choice sorted Smile

My DC may be a grade short of most of his offers. We rang and asked about whether they would accept a lower grade when it comes to it and one uni said - if it pans out as other years, then yes. So we will put that uni as our insurance probably.

Need to visit them all first to get the vibe. My Dc doesn't hold much regard for getting a hunch about a place in an applicant mtg day. I'm hoping he gets a good feel for one of them. The one he likes is possibly too prestigious and even if he gets the grades he may feel out of his depth. Bright student but not uber studious - good enough!

Eastwickwitch · 11/01/2015 18:37

Is it possible to get a feel of which Unis might take a lower grade?
DS really wants Exeter but AAA would be a massive achievement for him, he's more likely to get AAB but with an A in his EPQ.

bluebellz · 11/01/2015 21:20

Call Admissions or adminstrator for the subject. 4 unis have given me advice on what they usually drop to. of course, always depends on how many applicants get the required grades this year but they have a rough idea from average previous years.

Decorhate · 12/01/2015 17:34

Horsemad I am already thinking about the finances too - had hoped that dd would be finished before next child starts (4yr age gap) but she wants to do a 6 yr course. Sigh. I suppose it depends how much they will get as a loan/grant & how expensive accommodation is. I think unless they are getting the highest amount possible it's inevitable that parents have to contribute - dd's rent in most places would exceed the loan amount

Hi everyone I new here from Oxbridge thread, my dd got rejected from cambridge, all weekend she felt very disappointed in herself and felt like a failure but I have received support from the Oxbridge thread which has given me hope that she will be ok and move on, littleham you mention that your dd got four offers from uni, well done to her that is amazing!
