I just thought I'd get us started up again!

OP posts:

DD has been waiting to firm so that she could discuss her academic progress with head of sixth form and decide on the most realistic options. But she is now thinking that, as there are really only two options out of the five offers that she regards as acceptable, she should just go ahead. The favourite is the higher offer as well (Aston), so that's firm and insurance decided.

She mentioned that she might do it tonight, and I panicked and said sleep on it. After all the weighing up and mulling and debating, it just seems so final!

But I think it will be good for her to firm, and then she can really throw herself into revision for her mocks, which are in early March.

webwiz if your out there reading this please come back don't go. We miss you here, stuff the other thread, some people take things too literally and out of the spirit it was posted, they don't understand. I guess your household is like ours we try and laugh off and joke about rejection. We do about dd rejection from UCL doesn't mean we dissing everyone else's kids that got an offer from them. Ok some may think its a immature way but at least we can talk about it openly and its not something we can't talk about because we too sad and bitter about it. Its our way of coping not to take these things too seriously. What's the point of moping around feeling sad about it. May as well laugh about it no point crying and been depressed. Some people just suck the life out of others because they just too serious! and too fixated on winning a argument to truly understand. I really appreciate all the words of wisdom and helpfulness of long standing contributers like yourself on MN. Always found this thread more friendly then some of the others! Flowers

Littleham · 13/02/2015 11:53

webwiz Your ds has got amazing offers. Hope he enjoys his visit to Durham. Smile

muffinmonster · 13/02/2015 12:33

webwiz I just took a look at the Durham thread. You were right to get out when you did - it has since turned into a real bunfight. Hope your DS enjoys his offer days.

webwiz · 13/02/2015 16:43

Thanks for the support I felt well and truly stamped on last night. You've got it exactly right polkadottyme that's how we are dealing with things. DS is very excited about Durham and I am happy that he has the opportunity to choose somewhere he really wants to go to.

Waitingaround · 13/02/2015 17:00

webwiz I felt the same as you- but I shouldn't of added to the thread Blush i was trying to add my support. Flowers

webwiz · 13/02/2015 17:08

Don't worry waiting I could see a few people had got what I was saying. I think I'll name change because I revealed a bit too much about DS and that isn't fair on him. I value the support in here too much to leave completely how would I get through the wait for results?!

bobs123 · 13/02/2015 17:48

webwiz if you revealed a bit too much about DS just ask MNHQ to delete those particular posts.

NiceCardigan · 13/02/2015 18:18

Thanks bobs I've asked for the posts to be removed.

polkadottyme · 13/02/2015 18:34

Yay Smile so glad your back webwiz have you noticed any thread that's oxbridge or medicine related, some of the topics seems to bring out the claws in people!! can't be yourself sometimes on those sorts of thread because they tend to over analyse everything you say to the point they spin it to a different angle and misinterpret the whole thing??? They make everything so complicated!!

NiceCardigan · 13/02/2015 18:37

I know polka people do seem to get very heated its a bit unfair when it's a thread that's meant to be supportive not AIBU (it is me by the way!)

bluebellz · 13/02/2015 18:48

sorry to hear other threads have become a bit heavy!

Sending our DC off to uni is an emotional time - need all the support we can get!
We are not firming or insuring until March after all applicant days - which is a slight worry re: accommodation but DS needs to be sure. Quite honestly, we've probably already chosen but it is a big decision. Time might help.

Littleham · 13/02/2015 19:02

My daughter has an applicant day tomorrow (by car) and one on Wednesday (by train). We are really looking forward to the York trip and have lined up Tesco vouchers for visits to museums. Not forgetting the all important tea shops. Bliss. Might squeeze the university in at some point!

polkadottyme · 13/02/2015 20:13

Ha ha like the name newcardigan
bluebellz same over this end won't be firming till late still waiting for Bath it's very Zzzzzzz
littleham where doing the same spending our tesco club card vouchers when we go to the open day in Bristol but on Bella ItaliaBlush. Your going to love the traditional tea shops in York Smile.

bobs123 · 13/02/2015 20:44

Betty's is wonderful (bit pricey and busy though)

We're not far from York and enjoyed our uni visit there. However they didn't do the course DD wanted. We liked the campus but accommodation had odd beds!

NiceCardigan · 13/02/2015 21:00

We're in York tues/wed do we need a secret Mumsnet signal Littleham Smile

Waitingaround · 13/02/2015 21:36

hellsbells99 · 14/02/2015 07:53

Feel for you munslife Flowers

bluebellz · 14/02/2015 09:26

Insurance offer: a question?

Do you automatically achieve a place at insurance if you get the grades but miss the grades for the firm?

hellsbells99 · 14/02/2015 09:42

Yes although the firm choice may still accept you anyway.

hellsbells99 · 14/02/2015 09:44

I hope you are okay mumslife Flowers
I like this thread as it friendly and supportive. I am keeping away from other threads!

Horsemad · 14/02/2015 10:12

Enjoy your visit days everyone! We're currently at Nott'm on a vist day! Grin

Littleham - I went to Bettys last month, had champagne afternoon tea, yum! Grin

mumslife - sorry to hear about your DF. X

AtiaoftheJulii · 14/02/2015 10:13

Dd knows her firm choice, but insurance is between Leeds and Bristol. After open days she preferred Leeds, but she went to an offer day which wasn't very informative (lots of open day type talk about why you should pick this subject, rather than why you should particularly go to Leeds for it. I was expecting more practical details), and she has a Bristol offer day at the beginning of March. Also Bristol say you are guaranteed accommodation as long as you apply by 31st August, so that seems to me possibly a good plus point (whilst keeping in mind last year's problems!).
