Well, I filled up the other one, so here's a nice new one to get us through dropping subjects, Uni open days, personal statement writing, and UCAS applications Grin

Plenty of Wine and Brew and (nicely-intentioned) Biscuits available!

AAAAAAAAGGHHHHH! DD just heard that she has an offer at Bristol, such a massive relief as she loved it there but there were only 7 places on the course....

cathyandclaire · 15/10/2014 21:56

fairycakes that is so harsh, is there no appeals process?
DD's school predicted below her grade for one subject ( because it's hard apparently) but lifted it on appeal.

AtiaoftheJulii · 15/10/2014 22:03

Oh fantastic for her, cathy ! Thought I'd read here that Bristol tended to wait until January-ish, but for only 7 places I expect they want to nab the good ones :)

That's what we'd heard too, we were bracing ourselves for a long wait as her other choices all interview, maybe they've changed their policy or maybe she's just been lucky!

Decorhate · 15/10/2014 22:08

Fantastic news Cathy! I also thought Bristol had a rep for taking ages to make offers do very well done to your dd!

Mindgone · 15/10/2014 23:20

Wine Cheers to Cathy!
Fairycakes, that's so unfair of the school! We seem to be very fortunate (I think) that DS's school is seemingly happy to predict up, unless we have just been lucky. They predicted a grade up for each of DS's subjects, without being asked to, which could be worrying. 2years ago, DS1 managed, with difficulty, to persuade them to predict him AAB from BCC at AS! To be fair though, he exceeded it! They don't always seem to understand that unless they get competitive predictions, they don't stand even a chance at the competitive courses!

fairycakes333 · 16/10/2014 00:15

atiao- we are so relieved the school changed their minds in the end. We were over the moon with dd results as we thought great she has more uni choices her top 3 subject is 89%, but then after her initial grade prediction it seemed that having the good grades wasn't enough her choices and fate was in the hands of someone elseConfused. At that point we were rather confused to wether we were meant to be happy with her grades?? Its horrible when they predict grades in such a way it left my dd thinking that she wasn't good enough and that the school had no faith in her. For now its onwards and upwardsSmile

fairycakes333 · 16/10/2014 00:20

Well done to your dd Cathy Smile you can sleep with a smile on your face.

fairycakes333 · 16/10/2014 00:49

Mindgone- your so lucky your school actually thinks about the impact of their decision on the child's future. Its so inspiring to hear that your ds1 managed to do a complete turn around at A2. My dd has sent off her UCAS last week we not hoping much that the teacher reference for my dd is anything special its done by the same person who predicted her initial gradesHmm

Horsemad · 16/10/2014 06:15

Excellent news Cathy!

MrsBartlet · 16/10/2014 06:25

Great news Cathy!

circular · 16/10/2014 06:26

Great news Cathy .

The offers seem to be coming in fast and furiously!

Is this mainly for the lower choicest of the 5, where requirements are less than predictions?

MrsBartlet · 16/10/2014 06:37

Dd has had one offer so far (for York) and yes that is her fifth choice with grades below her predicted grades. I am not sure that that is why she has that offer though, as looking on the student room, it seems like York are just quick off the mark.

Decorhate · 16/10/2014 07:03

Yes my dd's offer is also for her fifth choice. Still want ABB though. But her preferred coueses are at least AAA

AtiaoftheJulii · 16/10/2014 07:07

Dd's offer was from one of her middle ones, but all her likely offers are lower than her predictions.

circular · 16/10/2014 07:20

Thanks, that's really useful to know.
Thought York interviewed, or maybe just one of the few that do for DDs subject.

So those of us with more aspirational choices could be in for a long wait if applying too early.

Roisin · 16/10/2014 07:45

Well done Cathy! It's so exciting to see these offers rolling in.

I guess each department of each university has its own system and process by which they decide to make offers.

muffinmonster · 16/10/2014 08:23

fairycakes, glad to hear that the school reconsidered in the end. Good for you for fighting your daughter's corner.

circular, I don't think admissions people would actually say 'don't bother', but when we were at Strathclyde, they did say that their advertised offer of ABB should be regarded as a minimum. DD mentioned to the course leader that she was worried about her Physics grade, and course leader basically said "well work hard, then". Grin

cathy, well done to your DD.

circular · 16/10/2014 08:39

Muffinmonster feel for your DD - physics is the big issue here too.

fairycakes333 · 16/10/2014 10:17

Horrray we have good news dd rung from school to say her history remark gone up 7 mark's she now has A grade. We are ecstatic wasnt expecting it to go up that much. DD now ringing the uni up to tell them the grade change as she had sent her ucas last week with history grade still pending. Phew another drama averted . We were so worried that it might go down.

cathyandclaire · 16/10/2014 10:48

Fantastic Fairycakes that's a huge jump!

Mindgone · 16/10/2014 11:48

Fairycakes, fab news, well done! Yes, we didn't realise how fortunate we are with school's predicted grades! There really should be some kind of national guidelines, to help ensure equity between the candidates. Is the reference very important for your DS's subject, or is it more about grades?

That's great fairycakes :) Can it be changed on UCAS, or does your dd have to let each university know?

OP posts:
fairycakes333 · 16/10/2014 18:10

Thank you everyone Smile we over the moon its pretty much gone up a whole grade! DD only required 2 marks nice to have extra. ataio- dd had to email the uni admission tutors with her UCAS number and change in grades they all got back to her pretty much straight away that they will attach the new grades on to her application..
