Well, I filled up the other one, so here's a nice new one to get us through dropping subjects, Uni open days, personal statement writing, and UCAS applications Grin

Plenty of Wine and Brew and (nicely-intentioned) Biscuits available!

He does have a lovely smile. Grin But that doesn't make up for sliding up to virtually every note, in my book. Have you seen the YouTube video of the miss Saigon new cast and the old cast at the gala the other week? Fabulous, so it is. Jon jon steaks the show obviously.

Sorry about your handbag mumslife Sad How are you and dd feeling today?

Went to Leeds for the weekend and took dd1 and dd2 to the uni open day. Both really liked it, and we have friends there so know it's a great city to live in.

Dd1's UCAS form has finally been sent in, thank goodness!

Mindgone · 13/10/2014 10:29

Atia, DS1 has just started at Leeds and is loving it!
DS2's ucas went to school on Friday, so hopefully going off by today. Exciting but nerve wracking, so glad that his bloody PS is done with though!

hellsbells99 · 13/10/2014 10:50

Sorry about your bag mumslife - hope they are sending you new cards out straight away.
DD still hasn't finished her application although I have paid school for it.
Hopes to finish it this week. Needs to cut down her PS still - cut down to approx 4500 chars now, so 500+ to go. And still needs to choose her final 5 out of the 6 unis she likes.
Good luck Atia and Mindgone.

Mindgone · 13/10/2014 11:06

Thanks Hellsbells :). Has your DD tried looking at Unistats as a way of helping her to choose? DS1 found this helpful when choosing between two. I prefer 'gut feeling' ! Best of luck with it :)

hellsbells99 · 13/10/2014 12:04

I think we end up going with gut feeling and distance home. I am trying not to influence her choice at all so I cannot get the blame
She has 1 favourite but would be happy with any of the 6!

muffinmonster · 13/10/2014 13:30

Just catching up with this thread. horsemad I feel your pain about your DS. I think you may be right about his not feeling ready for uni. There's such a lot of pressure on our DCs to stay on the treadmill and achieve all their milestones on schedule, when in reality many of them could do with a year or two more to grow up and think about what they want. Of the four children in my family, only one of us got it right first time (it wasn't me!) and I am always impressing on my DD that it's never too late to change your mind and that that she should take time out to think if she needs it. She doesn't believe me, of course.

mumslife sorry to hear what a rubbish time you've been having. I hope you and your DD feel better soon.

circular, is your DD's audition soon?

DD visited Strathclyde (with me) and Hertfordshire (with DH) this weekend. She liked Glasgow and loved the course at Strathclyde (so interesting! - am loving these open days Smile) and was cautiously positive about Herts. She and DH were the only people to turn up to the talk for her course - it's brand new, starting September 2015. Is that a bad sign?

Still have Aston, Swansea, Hull and Kent to go. Then it's mid-term progress exams and hopefully hopefully hopefully an improved predicted grade for Biology.

Decorhate · 13/10/2014 17:49

What does your d want to study muffin monster?

muffinmonster · 13/10/2014 18:13

decorhate, it's Biomedical Engineering. A lot of the courses are new because until recent years it was only offered at postgraduate level, as a specialisation.

AtiaoftheJulii · 13/10/2014 20:47

woohoo, dd1 has an offer! Glasgow :)

Decorhate · 13/10/2014 21:01

Think my friends son has just started that course at Glasgow muffin monster. They do at Cardiff too I think? Didn't know they had at Herts

Leeds2 · 13/10/2014 21:02

Well done to your DD, Atia.

The Personal Statement is now on its final draft. Just needs a slight tweak in the opening paragraph. Bloody hell but its been torture! Next step is it being looked at by her subject teacher, head of that dept, HoY then College Dean.

Horsemad · 13/10/2014 23:27

Muffinmonster - thank you. I have a work colleague stressing over 11+ results, between us we are a right pair! I remember thinking when DS passed his 11+ that nothing could be that stressful. Hmmm!

Atia - congrats to your DD. What grades does she need?

MrsBartlet · 14/10/2014 06:29

Congrats to your dd Atia. Good to get one in the bag!

hellsbells99 · 14/10/2014 07:05

Well done Atia's DD!

cathyandclaire · 14/10/2014 07:10

Well done Atia's Dd, great to have one in the bag so soon!

muffinmonster · 14/10/2014 09:42

decorhate, yes, they do it at Glasgow and Cardiff, but those two are firmly out of reach for DD as her predicted (and likely) grades are not great. Of our shortlist of 7, 4 are aspirational at ABB, one is achievable at BBB and two are insurance.

Interesting fact related to the newness of these courses; I was told yesterday by someone at Aston that they only set up the Biomed Eng. course in July of this year, and they recruited all of their students through clearing. How is that possible!?

AtiaoftheJulii · 14/10/2014 12:31

horsemad - I think I was actually worse during the 11+ periods. Certainly more preoccupied, whereas I can forget about UCAS for, oh, minutes on end!

dd1 wants to do Classics, and her Glasgow offer is AAB. (She has two other choices who also say AAB are likely offers, is applying for Oxford who are AAA, and insurance is ABB. She refuses to contemplate getting less than an A for maths.) I'm really glad that her choice of course means realistically achievable offers - I'm quietly hoping for A*AA for her next year, but if she had to hit that as an offer I'd be panicking, as she is not the most dedicated student!
