Is there a hand holding thread for Y11 parents and GCSE results yet?

DD is waiting on GCSE results next Thursday.

She is bouncing around being a teen on Summer holidays (she is off in Ireland for a week with her friend's family)

I am beginning to feel a bit sick.

She is hoping to stay at school and do A-levels, but now the results are getting closer I'm a bit concerned we don't have a back up plan.

How are the rest of you doing?

Whole sodding town knew mine, I kept getting congratulated by people I didn't know! It was both rather nice and a bit Blush

exexpat · 19/08/2014 21:23

I had no chance at all of failing to open mine or not telling my parents - my mother taught at the same school, so had the whole list. I still had to phone round my friends to find out how they'd all done, though.

EllenJanesthickerknickers · 19/08/2014 22:08

DS1 has been 'uninvited' to a post results party. Sad Not sure how to cheer him up.

Dumbledoresgirl · 19/08/2014 22:23

How awful Ellen. Do you know why?

nostress · 19/08/2014 22:32

Are you all going to take them in? DS would normally go in on the bus but I'm desperate to go too. Is that bad?

exexpat · 19/08/2014 22:50

Last year, when DS went in to get the results of the two he had taken early, I had to wait more than an hour for him to text me. I might beg remind him to be a bit speedier this time.

Taking him in and hanging around to find out would be absolute social death, I suspect.

nostress · 19/08/2014 22:58

There's a multi storey car park near by - I was planning in hiding in there!

Phaedra11 · 19/08/2014 22:59

I will be taking DS in but may compromise by waiting in car!

Ellen, my heart goes out to you and your DS. We've had this problem and it usually turns out to be to do with DS playing it so cool that those organising the social event assume he's not interested.

TheAmyrlin · 19/08/2014 23:08

I'll join in. I think I'm more stressed than DS! He's playing it cool.
He does have a place at college, if he gets the required grades. If everything went ok on the day, he should hopefully have a C in maths. It's the English I'm more worried about. He's dyspraxic / dyslexic, so English is his weakest subject- well anything that involves lots of writing!!

queenofthemountain · 19/08/2014 23:30

I am just hoping every exam had lots of xbox questions on! He might do ok then

ElephantsNeverForgive · 19/08/2014 23:33

Given our non existent public transport, there are going to be a lot of parents sitting in the carpark.

TheAmyrlin · 19/08/2014 23:34

Oh if only!! Xbox, minecraft and yogscast. He'd get A*s in everything. Oh and GOT- he knows all the characters/ houses etc. has read all the books. GCSEs on Game of Theones would be ideal!

AtiaoftheJulii · 20/08/2014 00:07

I'll be taking my dd2 - did last year for both dd1 and dd2, and took dd1 last week - but waiting in the car. Dd2 seems to be past the worst of the nerves, and into the que sera sera zone.

ElephantsNeverForgive · 20/08/2014 00:37

A teen fiction or Dr Who GCSE would go down well here.

ElephantsNeverForgive · 20/08/2014 00:38

DD2 would get A* in SIMs and she's only 13 (but she's been revising since she was 6)

Agggghast · 20/08/2014 06:58

We always have loads of parents, in fact the PTA provide a refreshments stall! For a lot of parents it seems like it is a final time to stand with the people you met when your child started Reception! Normally it is a lovely day but in 2012 when there was the English scandal, the parents were a godsend. Can't wait until 6am tomorrow when I can see the results. Good luck to everyone and their DC.

ISingSoprano · 20/08/2014 07:20

Dd wants me to take her to school so that she can collect the envelope and then come straight home to open it in private. She has some distraction today thankfully - ds arrived home late last night from a month travelling so they are going to spend the day together.

LIZS · 20/08/2014 07:41

Opening at home not an option for ds. He has to speak to a member of staff and confirm A level options before leaving. There seem to be refreshments available at the school coffee shop , presumably for waiting parents.

kinkymouse · 20/08/2014 07:49

ellen Kids are so mean, I hope your DS has a good day today, I know we are no substitute but have you made any plans with him?
I will be taking dd1 early for her results but waiting in the car then spiriting her and friends of to a festival for 4 days. I hope they all have good results I'm sure I'm equipped to deal with other teenage girls woes for a full weekend.

sausagedog12 · 20/08/2014 08:14

The edexcel exam boundaries are on their website for anyone interested.

eatyourveg · 20/08/2014 08:17

Its normal for parents to go in at dc's school, there are refreshments put on for the parents. I have been ordered to stay in the car park. Apparently although I don't believe it, when ds1 got his results I was the only mum to cry (with pride) and ds3 doesn't want a repeat performance in front of his friends.

At speech day in July, the teachers all said see you on results day - its traditionally an opportunity for the parents to come in and say a last goodbye/thank you to the teachers

NapoleonsNose · 20/08/2014 08:25

I'm going to be another one waiting in the car. DD can't decide whether she is brave enough to open them in front of her friends or come back to the car, open in private, and then decide whether we sneak off quietly or she goes off to scream manically with everyone else. WJEC grade boundaries also released now too.

puddingisgood · 20/08/2014 08:28

eatyourveg I wish that was the case for us. The infamous 'nobody' has their parents with them at DS school. I have to sit at home and wait for the phone call. Then he hopefully registers for Sixth form, but he has been told not to sign up for anything that varies from his original plan until he's spoken to me. Just in case he doesn't get the grades he needs for his chosen options.

kinkymouse · 20/08/2014 08:55

puddingisgood I'm hearing a lot about nobodys good friend everybody who's getting a car for good results tomorrow.

Phaedra11 · 20/08/2014 08:56

The edexcel, wjec and AQA grade boundaries are all out. Doesn't look too horrific from DS's perspective - except maybe AQA Chemistry.

I think there will be parents at DS's school tomorrow, which is good in that I'd be accepted in but bad in that I might have to have conversations with other parents about "how they got on". I might hide in the car after all.
