DD is waiting on GCSE results next Thursday.

She is bouncing around being a teen on Summer holidays (she is off in Ireland for a week with her friend's family)

I am beginning to feel a bit sick.

She is hoping to stay at school and do A-levels, but now the results are getting closer I'm a bit concerned we don't have a back up plan.

How are the rest of you doing?

Phew. I have a very happy DS here - on target for everything, even German. He's also very happy that all his friends got what they needed to stay on for 6th form, including the one good friend of his who was a bit touch-and-go. Celebrations later...

aubreye · 21/08/2014 10:29

One of my nieces got eleven GCSEs all As and A*s. She's so happy and I've just been on the phone with her for ages. Well done to everyone's DC and/or family.

KatyMac · 21/08/2014 10:30

DD got:
Eng lang B5, Eng Lit C, Maths C, addional Science C, Applied Business C & BTec Drama Pass (!)

To add to:
Music B, Geography C, Science C, Spanish C, Btec Dance Distinction*

So 9 GCSEs & 2 Btecs - not bad for a non-academic Dancer!!

I think the 5 is the speaking thing that was taken out of the exam & 5 is the highest

2 surprises were drama being a pass (not ideal for a future performer) & business as she failed all her controlled assessments so she must have really aced her exam!!

Dumbledoresgirl · 21/08/2014 10:32

7 A* 5 A

One very happy mother and son.

Leeds2 · 21/08/2014 10:34

Have the school admitted that they didn't submit the coursework, Queen? They must have realised when they got the results! Hopefully, they will be allowed to submit it late if that is the case.

SophieBMumsnet · 21/08/2014 10:41

Just wanted to pop in to spread a bit of results day joy. If your DCs don't get the results they wanted - it will all be ok!

7 years ago I picked up my results to find that I only got 4 GCSEs – a couple of Bs in English, a B in Media and a C in French. No maths, no science. I needed 5 GCSEs to get into the college I wanted to go to, and I truly thought that my life was over........ for the best part of 2 hours.

DM forced me to go into the college and speak to them regardless of my results ('dazzle them with your sparkling personality', she said between reassuring sobs). I wanted to study Media, Film and Photography, so I asked to speak to the head of Media Studies who sat me down and asked if I'd work hard. I told her I would and she said she'd give me a chance as long as I re-sat my maths GCSE (which I did that year, and have almost every year since and I still can't bloody pass it.)

I got 3 Bs at A-level and went on to study at Goldsmiths, which was the best university for my course at the time. I interned for free at every magazine/website/newspaper that would have me every single day of my summer holidays, then when I graduated with a 2:1 in 2012 and walked straight into a job at a big magazine publishing company, then came to Mumsnet.

Failing my GCSEs wasn't all that bad – it made me realise that I actually had to work hard to make sure I didn't suffer the same gut-wrenching disappointment again. I've achieved all I wanted to and a bit more and I still don't have a maths GCSE. It will be ok!!

RaspberryLemonPavlova · 21/08/2014 10:42

Vary happy DS1 and parents here. Targets mostly met and all met in A level choices. And on target for his university ambitions.

I was allowed to go inside. I gave him 10 minutes to open his envelope then followed him in.

Good luck to all waiting.

Seriouslyffs · 21/08/2014 10:47

Aaargh its so hard isn't it? Poor things. Rather random results for DD2-As for eng literature and Drama and Cs for everything else including RS which she's continuing with but yeah! maths. Failed sciences although she got an A for higher level physics Confused
Worth a raft of remarks as she was on the boundary for everything.
The most important thing is that they weren't disastrous enough that she's off to Reading in a state!

Stengor · 21/08/2014 10:47

My Yr10 Dd got what she wanted and expected in two early entry GCSEs, so she's delighted. But totally agree with SophieBMumsnet that sometimes not doing as well as you thought you would can be a positive thing and give you the kick up the backside you need to reach your full potential. Although I'm pleased Dd did well, I'm also worried that she'll be complacent in Yr 11.

Solo · 21/08/2014 10:48

That's a good result SophieBMumsnet :)

Ds is planning on going in at midday. I will be told via text. Except that he hasn't got a phone atm Hmm. Think I'll go with him.

Smilesandpiles · 21/08/2014 10:51

Elephants

Would that be the Additional Science Coursework by any chance?

There's a few people our end kicking off about it too. Some have come back 3-4 grades lower than predicted.

Hassled · 21/08/2014 10:52

Great joy and happiness in the Hassled House now - the boy done well. Blimey, I was tense.

BestIsWest · 21/08/2014 10:52

Phew. DS has done much better than we expected and he is in to his 6th form college. We are all over the moon. Given that he's been in severe pain with a prolapsed disc since February and can't sit for long and his dyslexia I am so proud of him.

One hiccup - an E for maths but he can re take that. I am not stressing about that yet.

Good luck to everyone still waiting.

Marni23 · 21/08/2014 10:58

Great joy and happiness here too! So glad to hear so much good news, and commiserations to those who didn't get what they wanted. By the time they start sixth form this will all be a distant memory...and the stress will start all over again!

pigsinmud · 21/08/2014 11:05

Ds phoned and is happy. Targets met apart from pe, but happy with the fact that he went a grade higher than target in English! Grin

iwantgin · 21/08/2014 11:06

DS did well too.

He attends/ed selective grammar though so all pupils are expected high scores.

I think he is just relieved to have it out of the way and is looking forward to sixth form.

CaptChaos · 21/08/2014 11:07

SophieBMumsnet that's a wonderful story.

It's important to remember what I've been telling people for years. There is ALWAYS a plan B. There's always another way if you are determined.

DS got what he needed to get into the college course he wants.

We need a champagne emoticon! Grin

fatowl · 21/08/2014 11:12

DD has done well, into 6th Form. Phew!

Forgossake · 21/08/2014 11:17

My lovely ds's results are atrocious. He simply did not work hard enough. I know that the future is still his for the taking but I am devastated for him and although he is putting on a brave face, I know this has given his confidence a beating.

He just started his revision too late. Did not take it seriously until a couple of months before the exams. And by that point, there was too much to catch up on.

But he was predicted mostly c's and b's, so for his final results to be a couple of grades lower is a real blow. I am trying to say all the right things to him but it's hard. Feel like I have failed him.Sad

YeGodsAndLittleFishes · 21/08/2014 11:19

DD got the results she thought she had worked out she would get, and enough to swap schools and do the A levels she has been planning for.

Trouble is, MH issues getting in the way and she can't see it. I'm working and can't be with her for another couple of hours. Several of her friends got to this point and then dropped out at sixth form, so she's wavering. Got to be her own choice now.

Deep breaths.

Unexpected · 21/08/2014 11:29

Back home, have stopped shaking, DS's results were fab. Have texted them to him but no response, he won't have reception until this evening. Well done to us all for getting this far, regardless of results.

itfcbabe · 21/08/2014 11:33

Very proud my son got what he needed for sixth form,he was surprised he got a C in Maths but I knew he could do it. He put his head down this year as at the end of year 10 he was getting mainly E's.

Off to study A-levels.
Been quite a good couple of weeks with eldest getting his right A-levels for uni in September.

Now head down for next year got oldest doing 1st year uni, then 2nd son doing AS level and daughter doing GCSE's.

Exams in this house every year now for a few years!!

TantrumsAndBalloons · 21/08/2014 11:36

All good here, everyone happy.

Now I just have to do it all next year with ds1

BaconAndAvocado · 21/08/2014 11:38

Phew! The reason DS was asked to come in early was so,he could have his photo taken !

He did really well and had worked incredibly hard so he got his place at the grammar for 6th form.

Very proud Smile

antimatter · 21/08/2014 11:40

my dd got what she needed and is off to 6th form in her school

she is in selective grammar too and their school beaten all others in the borough so we are very happy for them
