CE results (when?)

Is no one else like me and like a cat on a hot tin roof with CE?
It's my understanding that our prep head likes to get all the results in before telling people (so he can sort out any probs 1st) and we can expect to hear by next Weds. Is this the same for everyone? I would have thought the school he is going to would let me know?

I was really relieved as my DS got into a highly academic school - he got only B's and C's - which was tough as all his classmates got much better grades for different schools . I know it's not comparable but he felt a bit deflated .

4happyhours · 15/06/2014 00:17

Offtotheraces, the grades are not equivalent across schools ... For eg, to get an A at Eton entry it's 90% whereas in most of the others it's 70%.

trinity0097 · 15/06/2014 08:02

And even in some schools the grade boundaries for different subjects are different!!!!! Never realised that until Friday when a school forgot to send the info with the results and it ended up in my in-box!

The ISEB guidance on the maths mark scheme, but no other subject has this, is that 40%+ is a C, 55%+ a B and 70%+ an A - of course most of us know that most schools make their grade boundaries much higher, but it's interesting to see what is suggested by the exam board!

Offtotheraces · 15/06/2014 08:02

4happy ... Thank you , I know - he'll be fine ! I haven't been given the grade breakdown from the school to put things in context - ie do most pupils get an A and very few a C etc etc . You are right 70 at his school would be a C!! He's enjoying doing no work at all!

Offtotheraces · 15/06/2014 08:13

Trinity , presumably that is for Level 2 Maths ? This whole thing is impossibly complicated ...

trinity0097 · 15/06/2014 16:47

Yes, for level 2.

summerends · 15/06/2014 18:04

My understanding is that the grades are an indicator of the initial streaming in the senior school. This means that they also probably vary from year in any particular school depending on the ability of the cohort of new entrants

oftenlurkingrarelyposting · 16/06/2014 20:07

We are yet to hear.... Apparently one of the school is delayed sending them out so all the boys have to wait.... I think a terse call to the headmaster tomorrow is due, this is painful. I'm trying to convince myself no news is good news!

Offtotheraces · 16/06/2014 20:42

That is ridiculous - I've had a pile of paperwork to fill in and meetings to arrange- uniform appointments etc . It must be highly unusual for a school not to get its act together . Has the headmaster not given you the nod ?

Offtotheraces · 16/06/2014 20:46

No news is good news .... Of course ... But why the delay ?

oftenlurkingrarelyposting · 16/06/2014 20:58

Well i have had emails and correspondence from his intended school in the last couple of days so am assuming this is positive... Pretty poor show though from his headmaster, I will be expressing this opinion. The headmaster was away with the boys last week but no real excuse! If I'm overly optimistic and it's not good news we have no second option!!!

Offtotheraces · 16/06/2014 21:51

It's what our DS's have worked towards for 9 years effectively . The HM owes it to the boys - so they can breath a sigh of relief - it would be great if all boys are told together but in this instance the HM needs to distance himself from the school that is late . Have your DS's new school not sent a letter with the results .

oftenlurkingrarelyposting · 16/06/2014 21:56

I agree... It's leaving a but of a bad taste in our final days... No they have not sent a letter, is that what happens? Maybe I will call them tomorrow... Thank you for your support offto.... Much appreciated.

summerends · 16/06/2014 22:10

Wonder which school is taking so long to mark. Oversubscribed with difficult decisions or inefficient.
To be fair Oftenlurking if that story is true it does n't sound your DS's headnaster's fault and as you said you would have heard early on if there was a problem. Maybe there is a boy in your DS's year who is yet to be sorted out with a second choice and they want to spare his feelings with his classmates until he has a definite place.

Offtotheraces · 16/06/2014 22:16

That sounds quite plausible - it's really rare that a boy doesn't get in however. It would quite spoil the last few weeks for the whole year .

oftenlurkingrarelyposting · 16/06/2014 22:18

Summer you have articulated just what another parent has said... There are only 15 boys in year 8 with 9 going to one school. ?e went off piste with our school but I guess there may be an issue somewhere, great balance thank you.

educationrocks1 · 16/06/2014 22:35

Does anyone know wether the grade boundaries used by senior schools for marking CE are the same?

summerends · 17/06/2014 06:00

education if you read the above posts on this page that should answer your question. In short the consensus is no because it depends on the selectiveness of a school.

educationrocks1 · 17/06/2014 07:05

Summerends Of course Blush if I had read it! thank you.

oftenlurkingrarelyposting · 17/06/2014 22:56

Results are in... Now what was all that worry about ??

educationrocks1 · 17/06/2014 22:58

Congratulations! you must be so relieved, what a horrible long wait.

Offtotheraces · 17/06/2014 23:06

Well done - you can relax now :))

Offtotheraces · 17/06/2014 23:07

Out of curiosity , did the HM let you know why there was such a delay ?

4happyhours · 18/06/2014 06:53

Offtotheraces - wondering if we are heading on the same direction?!
