CE results (when?)

Teapot74 · 04/06/2014 17:55

Is no one else like me and like a cat on a hot tin roof with CE?
It's my understanding that our prep head likes to get all the results in before telling people (so he can sort out any probs 1st) and we can expect to hear by next Weds. Is this the same for everyone? I would have thought the school he is going to would let me know?

This wait is awful! can't imagine what itmust be like for GCSEs and then A'levels.

4happyhours · 10/06/2014 12:07

ISEB website says this:
"Results of the 13+ examinations should be available to junior schools by the Thursday of the week following the examinations and before parents are informed on the Friday. Heads of junior schools appreciate it if heads of senior schools contact them by telephone about failures by the Tuesday of the week following the examination."

educationrocks1 · 10/06/2014 12:11

Never did Thursday seem to far away.

Teapot74 · 10/06/2014 16:29

We got ours today…we're in!!!!! Dead chuffed 73% which I believe the head said was 10% over the pass mark but I can't be entirely sure as I was on my mobile in a garden centre with bad reception!!!!

Teapot, how lovely! Is he going to a day or boarding school?

Teapot74 · 10/06/2014 19:47

Weekly boarding. approx 4 miles up the road, closer than DD's day school but it's what he wanted and by the sounds of the day boys it doesn't make much diff. Preparing for major blubathon come Sept. though!

You can relax now Wine. Wonder whether all the boys in your DS's house got in. I suspect the school had it covered though and you were worrying unnecessarily.

Mutteroo · 11/06/2014 01:55

Best of luck to those awaiting their results & their parents ....actually the parents are probably more nervous than the DCs! Most prep HTs ensure pupils only apply to schools they are likely to get into & so falling CE is rare.

Was in your shoes a few years back. He found out his result on the Friday & it was confirmed via post on Saturday. Thankfully DS chose a non-selective school & his CE result was for setting purposes only. We were pleased to find out he had gained the grade for a day place at his original first choice school as there was always that worry he would suddenly realise he didn't want to board.

mikulkin · 11/06/2014 04:36

Teapot, congrats!!!! We haven't heard anything so far so hopefully no news is good news :)

4happyhours · 11/06/2014 17:01

SUCH A LONG WAIT!
The Dame (of the boarding house DS is down for) emailed us today to ask for our primary phone number for her records, and she said looking forward to meeting us soon, and I KNOW the academic panel was meeting to go through CE results YESTERDAY ... SOOOO, that makes me think (given that she could have asked that at any point over the last two weeks) that she knows something we don't know ... i.e., I HOPE she wouldn't be contacting me like that if he hadn't got in ...

educationrocks1 · 11/06/2014 19:48

4happyhours Sooooo! the plot thickens! Wink

Teapot74 · 11/06/2014 21:31

I know. But I don't think it's v fair that I know. If someone else knew I would be spitting chips. I do think that the whole CE thing needs to be a bit more transparent and everyone hears at the same time. Not long now tho peeps. fingers crossed a few will hear tomorrow. x

4happy for all the major public schools' common entrance including Eton if you have not heard from your own headmaster by yesterday or at the very latest today your DC has passed. The grades take a bit longer to get organised. Of course the Dame was giving you the nod but she probably expected that you realised your DS has got through.

4happyhours · 11/06/2014 22:31

summerends we are in a slightly complicated position because DS's head is away on holiday as it's half term. So he's told us he will let us all know Saturday ... So I'm not sure what would happen if he got the nod that kids hadn't made it ...

summerends · 11/06/2014 22:42

Rather odd but presume that he was completely confident in all his pupils when he made his holiday arrangements or has somebody deputised. The ringing around second choice schools would be happening now after discussion with the parents.

4happyhours · 11/06/2014 23:23

Ah, yes, hadn't thought about that ringing round thing ... almost breathing a mammoth sigh of relief

summerends · 12/06/2014 03:40

You can relax.
Have to say though, your DS's headmaster being away the week after CE is not a ringing endorsement for that prep for sending children to the more competitive schools. Although rarely needed for a well prepared DC who has got through a pretest, a parent would want to know that the headmaster would be available to discuss with and immediately contact a second school in case of failure. The headmaster also occasionally needs to reassure a senior school about a borderline candidate or plead their case for unexpectedly poor results.

Offtotheraces · 12/06/2014 05:39

DS finds his out today ! Then I get a call . So relieved that he whole things over . I know there are few failures but the though of being one was quite motivational . DS needed 70 in all papers so there wasn't much room for a slip up or bad paper .

4happyhours · 12/06/2014 12:19

summerends I expect, knowing him, he'll be available if he needs to be; I suspect he's just put up a fence/parameter so parents don't think they can keep ringing him, instead he's taking ownership if letting us know. Can't fault him as a head. And school sends plenty to Eton; Shrews; Malvern; Radley; Sherborne; CheltColl so he knows what he's doing! I know all too well, being married to someone in senior leadership in education that you sometimes have to protect your time off. That's not to say they wouldn't be absolutely available if needed ...

4happyhours · 12/06/2014 13:28

The wait is over for us; big, big sigh of relief, and two very proud parents.

summerends · 12/06/2014 13:58

Fantastic. Well done!
Take your point about the headmaster but then he should at least say that he would contact the parents if a problem by midweek. Save lots of worrying.
Most of the ones you mention don't have demanding pass marks so I suppose the prep have been able to be fairly relaxed about it all.

Teapot74 · 12/06/2014 18:35

Happy 4 you happy hours :) Where is he off to?

OP posts:
4happyhours · 12/06/2014 22:51

The big E.

Delighted and drinking champagne.

DS did say that they'd been told at school that they'd be told on Monday or Tuesday if it was bad, but I'm never sure what is apocryphal or what is chapter and verse as he's a full boarder and I only get snippets filtered back from him Wink

Offtotheraces · 12/06/2014 23:22

Relief , hope everybody got the results they wanted :))

mikulkin · 13/06/2014 05:07

Relief - DS called from his trip - he is in, got all As, As+ and 2 Bs - fantastic result - he could have made to any school but being my DS he knew exactly where he wanted to go...
