Y13 support thread, anyone?

I remember our GCSE one 2 years ago. It was a haven! I hesitate to start this as I'm not totally confident of wanting to post DDs results in the end, but I'll cross that bridge when I come to it.
So, how's the revision going? What are the tricky subjects for anyone's DC?
DD is revising steadily, but then she always does and has had some disastrous module results, so not filled with massive confidence. Biology is her issue - she knows and understands it but can't seem to give the examiner what they are looking for. We've had papers back and her tutor says she hasn't answered anything incorrectly, just hasn't said precisely what the examiner wants. Seems so unfair.

I'm stressing. Anyone else?

First choice? At this point I'll be delighted with any university! Dd is going on holiday between exams and prom. Also jealous.

Oh the holidays...... that could be a whole new thread.
Sorry to say that DS is going to Kavos Hmm.

FantaSea · 30/04/2014 18:22

Hmmm yes, the holidays....DD told me this morning that her and her bf are 'going on holiday over the summer'. This is the first I have heard of it Hmm , so I gave my standard reply when surprised by DD 'oh, that sounds nice' .

Wine for us all I think.

cardibach · 30/04/2014 19:26

yourlittlesecret DD is going to Kavos too. Can I recommend you don't watch 'What Happens in Kavos...' on Sky something? I definitely need a thread!

OP posts:
yourlittlesecret · 30/04/2014 19:47

Is she cardibach? Ah good at least that means there will be some nice girls there. Unfortunately I have seen Sun Sex and Suspicious parents which is similar. His friend's mum and I have told them we have tickets and they should look over their shoulder at all times.
I might start a thread on teenagers nearer the time.

BeckAndCall · 01/05/2014 06:55

OMG Kavos. Older DD went there with her friends - a bunch of very nice girls - and had a great time. Then I watched 'what happens in Kavos'. And felt physically sick at the thought of my baby doing 'that kind of thing'. Good job I didn't watch it before she went or it would have been a week in Bognor with me!

Timetraveller · 01/05/2014 07:34

Well DS is going to Wales with a group of boys which isn't as exciting I know! But they'll have a great time making campfires on the beach. It's the thought of going away on their own, isn't it?
I've also watched 'Sun, Sex and Suspicious parents' but I'm sure none of our DC are like that!

cardibach · 01/05/2014 07:56

yourlittlesecret let me know about your thread if you start it! Actually I think we will all need a wild drinking holiday to get over the exams too! Kavos meet up anyone?
In the meantime...more revision.

DD is in a better frame of mind today, thank goodness, having taken a 'sicky' yesterday so she could get a lot of work done. She has a final re-sit for the last part of the chemistry practical this morning and is very worried about it, so I am hoping it will go well.

cardi I could do with a wild drinking holiday myself too to get over all the stress of these exams!

BeckAndCall · 01/05/2014 14:18

I'm in :)

yourlittlesecret · 01/05/2014 14:50

I am shutting out all thoughts of my innocent shy boy in Kavos. La la la.
He is going with 3 good friends who are all country lads and none of them have even been to a nightclub before.
There was much talk on a recent thread about teens of a "2014 MN mums and teens getaway".Something along the lines of a naice hotel for us and a dingy dive next door (with excellent wi fi) for the teens. Grin

DS now has his full exam timetable of 15 exam papers the first one on 19th May and last one on 27th June. Phew.

cardibach · 01/05/2014 18:06

Blimey yourlittlesecret that's a lot! DD has 5! That's bad enough... The teens and mums holiday sounds good, but can we make our excellent hotel a liiitle further away from theirs? SO they don't see us roll in drunk at 5am? :)

OP posts:
FantaSea · 01/05/2014 18:12

DD has 15 papers too starting on 19th May and finishing on the 20th June.

I don't know about rolling in at 5am cardi I can hardly stay awake after 11pm most nights now! Grin

cardibach · 01/05/2014 19:32

Just add more alcohol, Fanta! I amazed myself staying up with a musician friend of mine unto 4am drinking port recently - I'd have stayed up later but I knew I had to get up in the morning. On a hypothetical drinking holiday I could do what I wanted! Also being away from the teenagers' hotel would mean shameful bed-at-9 incidents would be secret!

OP posts:
FantaSea · 01/05/2014 19:55

cardi I'm very impressed you could stay up until 4am! I am drooping now and it's nearly 8pm! Omg I am so old Grin

On our drinking holiday I would have to leave the merriment and sneak off to my room!

yourlittlesecret · 01/05/2014 21:55

11 o'clock is a really late night for me, DS knows I would do shameful bed-at-9.
Before DC when DH and I went on holiday to places with night-life I used to wish that instead of starting at 11pm it started at 7pm and finished at 11.

cardibach · 01/05/2014 22:02

Don't get me wrong - I'm normally a dozing by 10 type. Just I can still do it if having fun and alcohol. I am actually old too (49, though I guess we are all similar ages due to same age DCs).

OP posts:
FantaSea · 01/05/2014 22:20

I am nearly 50 too - I feel exhausted, the sixth form has put years on me Grin

bruffin · 02/05/2014 08:52

Thankfully ds is too young to drink in Iceland, they have to be 20 Grin. As I dont need to keep an eye on him, can i join you in Kavos, although I am a lightweight when it comes to drinking and i am even older (51).
I asked ds how many papers he had and he said "too many". We got DD's gcse exam timetable yesterday and that ran to two pages.

yourlittlesecret · 02/05/2014 09:48

bruffin I see you are on the Y11 thread as well. Yes I now have two exam timetables stuck on the fridge.
56 here by the way.

Needmoresleep · 02/05/2014 10:06

Two sets of exams for us as well. Very different children. Since Yr 13s have now had three consecutive year of exams I am trusting that DS knows what he needs to do. His lookout if he does not.

I'm game for a trip to Kavos......though have already booked a post-exam walking trip on my own leaving family behind. The first time I have done anything like this, but after 18 years of child care feel the need for some me time.

I am NOT giving my age. I feel old.

FantaSea · 02/05/2014 10:25

Needmoresleep your walking holiday sounds lovely.

I am letting DD take another 'sicky' today as school is such a waste of time at the moment. She is having a maths paper day, and will get far more done than had she been at school.

DD got a log-in yesterday at school, for the results, which we had to test last night to make sure it was working. That made me feel rather peculiar I have to admit.

Needmoresleep · 02/05/2014 12:00

I know there is an "empty nest" thread in higher education, but perhaps there is a need for a "bucket list" one instead. The 18 years have been hugely rewarding but also hard work. Just the A2s, then FREEDOM....

Kavos could be wild.

There is a particular joy for those of us, who went the Private school route, when writing that last ever school fee cheque. It will feel very strange to have money in the account.

cardibach · 02/05/2014 17:41

I am going to La Rochelle with a friend in the summer, so I am having a child free holiday. We will probably eat far too much and drink more than is strictly wise, as well as talk a lot. Can't wait.

OP posts:
FantaSea · 02/05/2014 17:45

cardi that sounds lovely Smile .

Are anyone else's DC flagging now? DD seems really tired out.
