Ok. DS1 has broken up for Easter and we now have to all accept that this is it. He has been doing dribs and drabs since mocks in February and an hour- ish in the evenings of stuff set by teachers.

Nowhere near what I remember doing for my o'levels a million miles ago. Friends tell me their kids are doing nothing yet. Not sure I believe them though!

Waiting for reality to kick in with him but he still seems to be treating it all like an end of topic test in class!

What's happening in your house? Are you staying well out of it or like me walking round waving a CGP guide 24/7!!!!!

Anothet who struggled with Biology. And has Eng lit tomorrow, with Romeo and Juliet and to kill a Mockingbird. Fab choices but long.

LowCloudsForming · 19/05/2014 22:30

ancient - ditto here

hellsbells99 · 19/05/2014 22:38

DD2 said AQA physics today was good - much easier than last week's sciences. Not looking forward to English Lit tomorrow.

mumthetaxidriver · 19/05/2014 22:44

How awful eatyourveg - the sound of a phone must have been very distracting for your DS. You were right to complain and its good you have had a response.

Good luck with your complaint EYV, very irresponsible behavior.

Good Luck to everyone doing Eng. Lit. Especially DD1 and all the dyslexics who'd really rather not do English exams ever.

RaspberryLemonPavlova · 19/05/2014 23:28

Another who said Biology had an obscure question. Not iGCSE though. Not sure what the question was, DS said he guessed it and it was worth 2 marks so isn't getting hung up about it. No exams tomorrow.

EatSleepRaveRepeat · 20/05/2014 08:15

DD just left for a Day of Geography and English lit AQA . her best subjects which she hopes to study A level .. I feel these are more pressure as she knows she would be so happy with a B in science but is looking for A* in these .. Good luck to everyone else's DC's today

SupportManager · 20/05/2014 08:23

Good to hear school's, EatYrVeg - hope you all have a better day today.

Eng Lit here today, not a favorite.

Good luck everyone!

MrsMaturin · 20/05/2014 08:28

Just dropped dd off. Eng lit for us today. Sorry I mean for HER. I'm doing better than last week. Managed to drive home without bursting in to tears after maintaining bright and cheery face at drop off.

LIZS · 20/05/2014 08:32

Maths part 2 today

pigsinmud · 20/05/2014 08:42

English lit for ds1 - his worst subject now. Not helped today by the fact our dog went crazy at 2:25am and woke him up and he's caught his sisters's sore throat and headache. At least he has an exam free day tomorrow.

MrsM - why do you think you feel so tearful when you've dropped your dd off? Is it watching her stress or remembering your own from those exam days? Grin I do feel anxious today for ds1 - have a knotted stomach and struggling to eat. I think it's because I know it's his hardest subject.

KatyMac · 20/05/2014 08:46

She went off to school with inhalers, anti-biotics & anti-histamines!! English Literature this am! To Kill a Mocking Bird which she loves and Poetry which she hates!!

MorvahRising · 20/05/2014 09:22

Eng Lit (OMAM and poetry) and RE here today, both AQA. DS can't wait to see the back of OMAM, although he did say at breakfast that if he hadn't had to dissect it to the nth degree he probably would have found it more enjoyable.

I said that I dissected Passage to India for A level and still love it! And that studying Keats gave me a lifelong love of his poetry. But then I did Eng Lit at university, and DS is a hardcore scientist!

MissScatterbrain · 20/05/2014 09:28

School bus didn't turn up so ended up having to rush DC to school.

Roll on tomorrow as it will be our first exam free day.

yourlittlesecret · 20/05/2014 11:02

MorvahRising DS has said the same. English Lit has put him off poetry for life. He hates the minute dissection but says he can play the game if that's what they want. He will be glad to see the back of English for good.

bruffin · 20/05/2014 11:41

DD finished English Lit today and said it went really well. It was An Inspector Calls and Purple Hibiscus.

Nocomet · 20/05/2014 11:47

DD won't finish until 12 (30 minutes dyslexic over time), fingers tightly X (mice and men and unseen poems), inspector calls Friday.

ancientbuchanan · 20/05/2014 12:23

Eng lit, struggled through , dyslexic, loathes it. Said r + j better than tkam. Refuses to play game, irritating me. When asked how the poet makes you feel x, always responds that he doesn't.

yourlittlesecret · 20/05/2014 13:10

Inspector today and Mice and Men on Thursday I think. I suspect every Y11 knows that book off by heart. I enjoyed it myself but using the same text for Eng Language and Eng Lit is just about exam results. Nothing to do with education.

Fatmanbuttsam · 20/05/2014 13:25

P2 & P3 yesterday.....dd was very deflated and felt P3 didn't go terribly well.....
So today I'm a bundle of nerves again
English Language this morning.....
Followed by core RE which we're not too stressed about as she did the AS last week....
I can't wait for them to finish......I'm so nervous and running out of ideas for cooked breakfasts every morning.....

EatSleepRaveRepeat · 20/05/2014 15:32

Good Lord I'm in for work and realised had my days wrong its Tuesday not Thursday which means DD didn't even have Geography today.. I got a look when I ask how Geography went :/.. English went well though

MorvahRising · 20/05/2014 15:46

Well, DS, who normally gets top marks for Eng Lit without much effort, reports that it was quite a stretching paper (AQA); he wrote constantly and barely got everything down that he wanted to. It wasn't particularly difficult, just that there seemed to be a lot to get down in not enough time!

RE (AQA) was also a marathon and again he wrote loads and just about got it done in the time. He said the most tricky question was on religious opinions on how young people should be punished for crimes! Said he rather winged this bit as he didn't remember doing much on it in class.

I thought this would be a relatively unstressful day for him, as he finds both subjects quite easy, but he says he feels absolutely exhausted and it was the hardest day yet!

He is now tucking into home made scones with cream and lemon curd. fatmanbuttsam I am in awe of the daily cooked breakfasts!

sunshinecity17 · 20/05/2014 16:36

Don't understand how different kids with AQA are doing different things.DS2 has OMAM and The crucible today. He is doing poetry too but I don't think that was today. He has another eng lit on thursday

EllenJanesthickerknickers · 20/05/2014 16:55

DS1 did AQA Enlish Lit today, Of Mice and Men and DNA. He said the Mice and Men question was very unexpected from the question spotting he'd been doing. Very similar to last year, the relationship between Lenny and George, the two main characters. So he had spent ages studying Curly! Sad
