What shoe size do your y7 dd wears?

My y6 dd is tiny and she will be in y7 in this September. She only wears sized 13 shoes at the moment. Just want to get some idea how small she is comparing to other kids in y7. Thanks

DD is 11y and in Y7 (12y in April). She wears a size 5. She's 5 foot, same height as me - but her feet are two sizes bigger than me.

She tends to wear an adult size 6-8 or XS/S - from shops like Hollister, etc. so on smallish size anyway. She is pretty average height in her group of friends - and similar sizewise, though she has very definite young woman's type shape now with hips, curves and boobs.

Her friends - that I know of - vary mostly between a 3 and a 6, mst common is a 4 I think.

DD2 is in Y6, she is August born and also tiny, she wears age 7-8 clothes, her feet are size 2 though.

For comparison, her sister who was small but not tiny was probably wearing age 9 clothes when she was in Y6, her feet were size 4 when she started secondary school, they are now size 6, she is 5'3" and still pretty small (size 6 clothes if she wears 'grown up' clothes, age 13-14 if she wears kids clothes. She's in Y11. She wasn't by any means the smallest when she started secondary and although she is among the smallest now she isn't the absolute smallest.

I am, however, easily the smallest mum. :(

DD1 is in yr 8 and is a size 7 - sometimes 7 1/2. But she is 5'7'' and still growing fast.

DD2 is in Yr6 and is a size 5, is 5'1'' but is just revving up to the teenage growth spurt - I think she'll take after her sister.

I'm 5'11 and a 7-8 shoe so I hope DD1's feet stop soon...

I find this really interesting. My ds is 8 and in Yr 4. He is a size 13 and one of the smallest in his year. He seems to grow very slowly. My dd is 6 and in Yr 1. She is average height in her year and takes a 11.5. Both of them are very slight but very muscular - they each have a full six pack.

As I child I stopped growing at 14 whereas my dh didn't really start growing until 16. We both have quite athletic builds and I am really intrigued to see what the dc turn out like.

My daughter is in Year 8 and has had a major growth spurt over the last 18 months (she was 138cm going into Year 7 and now 146cm). I think her shoe size on starting secondary was the same as yours daughters and her feet are now 1.5. My daughter's frame is small and her hands are tiny.

Wouldn't worry over much ... my eldest had size 13 feet at same stage and at now at almost 17 hers are only a 2 to 2.5 or EU 34 or 35. She's fine with it.

Believe me there aren't any other teenagers at her school who are in a pair of black leather Vertbaudet pixie boots!! It's very funny when the catalogues come through the post for baby and toddler clothes because we just give them to her.

If she finds something she really likes and it is sufficiently stylish and comfy I've gone back and bought the same pair again.

Because her feet have hardly grown some of her winter boots have lasted four years. Italian makes tend to do quite good styles that aren't too babyish. Russell & Bromley kids is our first stop for her as without fail they offer her the best choice (and are the most expensive)

She does hanker after a pair of high wedges though...

The common problem is often my dd wishes she can wear the same sort of shoes and clothes as her peers. We ve found often certain styles' sizes don't start until big sizes. So sometimes she can feel a little left out.

My year 8 was a 2 last year. However my year 5 is currently a 3.5

But I was a 13 when I went to secondary school. I was small but not particularly tiny.

At the moment in y6 all her friends are very good and understanding and stand by her most of the times. However when she goes to y7 it may be a very different world.

Vickiyumyum - that doesn't sound terribly big for age 8. When DD was 7 we had a Japanese student (female, aged 19 - fully grown but quite petite, maybe 5'1 or so) staying with us for a month. We were going on a country dog walk, it was going to be muddy, and she didn't have any suitable footwear - so DD gave her the pair of size 3 trainers she had just grown out of Shock.

Sunsout my soon to be 17 year old has the smallest feet in her year group (about 100 girls) and although at times she has moaned about it now she is at the stage of considering which Uni to attend it is more a badge of honour than a concern.

The worst times are for 'prom' style occasions or going back to school when the whole cohort seem to be able to choose endless shoes and she can't. There are places that you can try... Johnnie B; Russell & Bromley, all the French catalogues, BHS etc. Look at online sites that offer free returns and buy two sizes. We've always managed something.

Amazingly in John Lewis at Xmas sale we saw some adult 35 wedges that fitted but stupidly she never bought.

However on the scale of bad things that can happen it's only a minor irritation.

PS Her Dad takes size a 5.5 to a 6 and has been known to borrow her younger sister's school shoes to go out to the garden with the rubbish. (Sister is 14 and size 6 and seven inches taller.) His workmates found that hilarious! Her Dad wears regularly buys shoes from the boys' department and has a pair of Ecco woman's loafers in his collection!

I had feet the same size at twelve, and only wear a three now. I was tiny at 4'7" at twelve, and just under 5' when I finished just short of eighteen. I've grown another inch since.
I was looking at a group of thirteen year old girls from June 2013 at my old school. Some could pass for eleven, and others eighteen.

Girls generally have a massive growth spurt in Y6, so by the time september comes round she might have shot up.

Pixi, I doubt it as she is not showing any body changes yet.

2.5-3. she has friends who were still in 13 at this point in y6.
DD has a tiny y7 female friend who is shoe size 1-2 now in y7.

DD's tiny mate is less than 52" tall but there's a y7 boy shorter than that.

My dd1 was 12 at the end of Feb as she wears a size 5 shoe (same as me now), is 4 ft 10 (I'm 5ft 3) and wears a size 6-8 clothes (I'm a size 8). She started year 7 in September

I really wouldn't worry about it OP.

DD went to secondary school with one friend. DD was almost the tallest at the end of Year 6 and took size 4 shoes. Her friend was the smallest and always had been. Their photo on their first day looked like little and large.

Fast forward to Year 11. DD has grown about one inch since year 6 and still takes a size 4 shoe and is one of the smallest in the year. Her teeny tiny friend is now about an inch taller than her.

DD started her periods when she was 10.5 and I have read that once that happens the hormone surge that causes growth stops and there is very little growth after the menarch. If your dd isn't developing yet then she has much much more growing time than many of the others and will probably end up surprising you.

pointythings · 20/03/2014 08:48

I wouldn't assume that there is very little growth after periods start, I did another 5 inches and that wasn't unusual in my peer group. I did find my feet stopped growing at that point, for which I was grateful - getting nice shoes in a 7/8 is easy enough now but it wasn't in 1984.

I was about to post size 1 then realised my DD is 7 YO, not Yr7!!

That does sound tiny.
