Is Westminster School the best school on Earth?

Just looking at their website and they have 97 places for their students at Oxford and Cambridge this year?!

We have an 8 year old son and want to focus on getting him into this place, just next to the Palace of Westminster. It looks amazing! Any thought on parents with children at the school very welcome indeed, especially any thoughts on the application process. Thank you for someone new to London.

statesmom you sound like one of the Real Housewives of New Jersey.

TamerB · 07/02/2014 07:07

I think statesmom was born in the wrong era, things don't work like that any more.( thankfully)

JakeBullet · 07/02/2014 07:08

Hmm Biscuit

TROLL

Crazy8 · 07/02/2014 07:11

Statesmon - I have been watching this thread in amazement. I just want to ask you if you have ever considered what your son wants and if he will be happy being tutored 5 times a week on top of obviously going to school, doing homework, any extra curricular activities and maybe playing?
We all want the best for our children but they only have one childhood. They need space to grow without being smothered.

TamerB · 07/02/2014 07:23

She can't be for real.............. Can she?

merrymouse · 07/02/2014 07:25

I think states mom should be very much encouraged and she should report back regularly.

Also, it's one thing making donations to the school, but is there any mileage in giving money directly to staff?

Minesacuppa · 07/02/2014 07:26

Statesmom, I suggest you read John Rae's book where he describes the inducements parents used to offer, some 40 years ago, to get a place at Westminster. It didn't wash then, so a paltry £1-2k (are you poor?) certainly won't these days

TamerB · 07/02/2014 08:22

There was a very funny article in the Times once about the lengths parents go to - maybe it was John Rae. The only thing that I remember was it didn't work! The new Head will see you coming statesmom- he knows the type!

merrymouse · 07/02/2014 08:27

"The only thing that I remember was it didn't work"

Rubbish, that is what they want you to think.

Now, have you tried doing a Youtube video?

LauraBridges · 07/02/2014 08:28

Doesn't work at all. Which school did the Beckham boys go to eventually? I am sure there were some academic London schools who would not have them if they did not have a high enough IQ to pass the tests.

Shootingatpigeons · 07/02/2014 08:30

statesmom 1-2k? That won't get you much. The Russians have arrived. Now you have to do an Abromovitch and buy the church next door www.godolphinandlatymer.com/page/?title=The+Bishop+Centre&pid=243

Shootingatpigeons · 07/02/2014 08:31

And before some Dolphin comes on in high dudgeon Wink

Crowler · 07/02/2014 08:36

Beckham boys are at Wetherby.

saintlyjimjams · 07/02/2014 08:40

Oh yes merrymouse is right - ask the super tutor who has influence in admissions & offer them money directly. Or a new conservatory for their house or something. what could possibly go wrong?

Seriously?!

A few thousand quid a year over the course of 4 or 5 years would be insulting in its inadequacy. It wouldn't be "the best school in the world" for very long, if it let in any applicant who could make a petty bribe.

Also, if the school has a PR dept, fund raising dept etc. I wonder if they monitor these sorts of threads? If I were the nice American woman raising funds for Westminster, I'd be cautious about gifts from an American woman with a French husband and an 8 year old boy. If you are for real, I think you've marked your card.

Eastpoint · 07/02/2014 09:26

Beckham parents & Brooklyn were looking round Latymer 2 weeks ago. I thought he was at Reeds as it's near Chelsea's Academy.

I'm certain at least one of the Beckham kids are at Wetherby, my year three son played against one of them pretty recently at a match. But all of them must be close to transitional ages in terms of schools, surely Latymer would figure into that.

Crowler · 07/02/2014 09:50

cross posted with Baby Barrister.

harrassedswlondonmum · 07/02/2014 09:55

....and Beckhams looked round Latymer last week during the school day. No one else is allowed to visit outside the open mornings, perhaps there was a financial inducement? Grin

Fab thread by the way, hours of entertainment and diversion from what I should be doing.

harrassedswlondonmum · 07/02/2014 09:58

Sorry I should have refreshed the thread before posting, Latymer visit is old news!

Crowler · 07/02/2014 09:59

Perhaps Latymer has a special celebrity-policy. It's probably for the security of the school, you know. Wink

I have a work deadline. I can't stay here anymore!

Dromedary · 07/02/2014 09:59

There is no way the OP can be real (based on last couple of posts). I like the way she is gradually working up to telling us that she has offered the Head cash in a brown envelope Grin

Tuhlulah · 07/02/2014 10:01

Statesmom, even if it could be established that Westminster is the best school in the world, what makes you think your children are special enough to be selected for it, or indeed deserve a place in the best school in the world?
It's an extremely odd thing for a supposedly intelligent person to think, even odder to admit it. I don't know what to make of you. I am wondering if you are a troll or just very silly.
