Yikes - supposed to hear today. Anyone heard yet ?

Oh my goodness Moggy - hope it's worth the wait! Did you not ask your head?

AuntFidgetWonkhamStrong · 14/02/2014 20:24

Sorry - in excitement, misinformed re acceptance date - it's 7 March - even better for you Manny!

Nickmom · 15/02/2014 08:01

From the websight:

Following this examination and interview, boys will be offered places, conditional on their future common entrance performance. Some candidates, whose performance shows promise but is not felt to have revealed their full potential, may be offered a place after a further interview and assessment twelve months after the examination.

No mention of another wait list. Not really very sensitive to offer no further information. Do you know when deposits are due? In our experience no one contacted the school unless they were taking the place and then only when deposits were required. A mom at our school finally contacted several parents whom she knew preferred other schools and told them the situation. They quickly send in "no thank you notes" but had never realised schools expected this. It really increased our anxiety. I would call the school first thing after 1/2 term (if you haven't already) and figure out what this means. It would be much better to have an answer than to have to wait 12 months!!

Nickmom · 15/02/2014 09:00

Oh no. Did they say March 2015?

AuntFidgetWonkhamStrong · 15/02/2014 09:30

No, March 7 2014!

Moggy72 · 15/02/2014 12:19

He got in !! Can you believe the post only just arrived.

Yay moggy well done your DS!

AuntFidgetWonkhamStrong · 15/02/2014 14:42

That's fantastic, Moggy - congratulations to your DS and well done you for hanging in there for an extra 24 hours!

Now for the big decision - and really not long to make it...
Truly stumped.

Moggy72 · 15/02/2014 17:34

Auntfidget what are you choosing between?

We are still waiting on offers from City and Westminster. (Westminster exam was tough). Also still no interview date from St Paul's.

OP posts:
AuntFidgetWonkhamStrong · 16/02/2014 11:04

KCS and St Paul's are the only day schools we've applied to. We are in Surrey and DS is very sporty (rugby and cricket) so we thought these would suit better than Westminster or CLSB.

We're still waiting for an interview date from St Paul's and would ideally not make the decision on King's until we have an answer either way there as DS is still undecided on which of the two he prefers. I'm not too concerned about the lack of interview date (yet!). DSs CATs/ head's report/ performance in the KCS process all suggest that he should be in with a good chance but you never know in this game!

Add into the mix the fact that we are also considering boarding - DH's old school (Rugby) is DS's current favourite and possibly Marlborough as a closer, strong all-rounder equivalent (loved this school on open day and have friends with children there) - and we're flummoxed.

DS loves the idea of the boarding lifestyle and the freedom that will give him to pursue all of his interests. I think I can get comfortable with boarding, subject to finding the school that is the right fit for DS (we discounted Wellington and Eton early on as felt that these weren't) but I hanker after the intellectual excitement that I felt at both King's and St Paul's for DS and wonder if a Rugby/Marlborough will keep him as academically on the boil? Perhaps I need to start another thread looking for advice on this one!

Sorry, Moggy, long response to a simple question but there it is! What is your/ your DS's preference at the moment?

Moggy72 · 17/02/2014 15:10

Auntfidget - we really don't have a preference yet. Decided to wait until we get our offers in and visit the schools and then decide. Boarding was never an option for us, so we only applied for London day schools.
WE live in central london though and KCS would mean we probably would have to move (don't want DS1 doing too long a commute). For Westminster and SPS we would not need to move ...but we are outgrowing our house anyway !!

Out of curiorisity MOgggy72, given the KCS acceptance deadline is 7 March (and I think you need to pay 1000? at that point), are you saying one would accept the offer, pay the , but then in however many months time pull out when/if you decide on West/SPS

AuntFidgetWonkhamStrong · 17/02/2014 17:36

The £2000 is not payable until February 2015 so I expect some will accept the conditional offer at this stage, even though they might perhaps give up the place before 2015, Manny.

The conditional acceptance form even appears to recognise this. There is a clause at the end which requires notification of an earlier (ie pre 1 Feb 2015) decision not to accept.

AuntFidgetWonkhamStrong · 17/02/2014 17:40

Fingers crossed for the other offers then Moggy! A great start though. I'm just grateful that I won't be going through this again - surely 11+ for DDs a doddle after this Wink.

Moggy72 · 17/02/2014 19:03

Auntfidget - yes fingers crossed for other offers. But relieved to have received KCS. I have twin DS that are starting reception, debating now whether 8+ is a less painful route.

Manny was this KCS ? A couple of very bright boys at our school didn't get through to interviews at KCS, which I was very surprised about. I think all these schools are now trying to find kids that have been aggressively tutored.

OP posts:
AuntFidgetWonkhamStrong · 18/02/2014 22:03

Hmm - not sure that's right but there certainly are so many kids out there that HAVE been aggressively tutored. I can understand it where boys are making the move from state to private perhaps but even in my DS's prep (PREP! for that is what the school does!) school, I lost count of the number of mothers of uber bright boys who vehemently disagreed with tutoring per se but because little Johnny was a touch weak in English, they brought in a little extra help (and wasn't it only fair as every one else was doing the same anyway!) Gaaahhhh!

In my naïveté, I had hoped (and continue to hope) that these excellent schools might see through all this....

It is tough Manny, but remember the schools run a detailed process because they are looking for more than just what the primary or prep schools can tell them. They may have spotted something others have missed.

Or some boys may have performed unexpectedly badly on the day and some unexpectedly done really well - like any human process it will be prone to a margin of 'error'.

No one can guarantee anything in this or university processes which is why you have to make multiple applications just in case.

Got waitlist at KCS, offer from City London Boys

newtoallofthis4 · 09/06/2015 05:15

Hi everyone :)

I was wondering if any of your boys attended the assessment day for the sports award?

Ladyleia · 10/06/2015 19:36

Hi New, why do you ask? Is your son joining KCS in Sept?

HelloEverybody · 08/01/2016 12:19

Anybody waiting to hear from King's College Junior School regarding interviews for entry in 2016? Told DS to be relaxed about it as best not to serve his heart on a particular school but I am nerve wracking 😨
