Dd and I are having second thoughts. They fit perfectly & are acceptable to the school but the hearts look little girly.

Dd is a size 1 G and is almost 12.

Dd is having second thoughts. She has gone her whole life having little choice about her shoes so is used to it. She says she will wear them because she knows how important it is to have supportive well fitting shoes - but she wishes they didn't look so childish.

She is a dancer so her feet are her future potential livelihood.

Completely agree about ballet flats and they ate banned. Their feet claw at the toes to keep them on.

All of the girls at DD's school seem to wear brogues or ballet pumps. DD has Clarks brogues.

Picturesinthefirelight · 11/08/2013 10:14

I know those Clarke brogues you mean. They sent very hard wearing and in any case sent deep enough for dd

Pity Bloch don't make a school shoe. Dd absolutely loves her new Bloch tap shoes. (That reminds me, need to get her jazz shoes too. At least school will fit the pointes next year.

does she like ankle boots?
although they probably aren't available til autumn/winter

Picturesinthefirelight · 11/08/2013 10:26

Boots are not allowed. She struggles with winter boots actually. The shoe shop lady asked if she had difficulties with boots. Her high instep means she can't pullout of them on.

To clarify - she needs a black leather full shoe. Ballerinas, ones that look like trainers & boots are not allowed.

can you buy insoles?

waikikamookau · 11/08/2013 10:29

if the school are ruling out so many, as I said, perhaps there will be others in the style you have already bought?

waikikamookau · 11/08/2013 10:29

other children I mean

Picturesinthefirelight · 11/08/2013 10:30

Insoles what for?

Picturesinthefirelight · 11/08/2013 10:30

It is a school full of dancing children who will hopefully want the best for their feet.

Slip on ballet shoes aren't allowed at our secondary. That's not to say some don't wear them but I won't get them for dds. They seem to always look slippy and sloppy and prone to coming off when I see girls in them.

I think op's shoes in the link are ok tbh.

Got dd some nice black brogues from Next.

marriedinwhiteisback · 11/08/2013 11:18

Doc Marten do a black Mary Jane style which is wide. Good fit and a bit of cred thrown in.

insanityscratching · 11/08/2013 11:30

Dd has had these similar but no hearts available in 1G

Picturesinthefirelight · 11/08/2013 11:33

Can you link to it married. I can't find it.

OP posts:
Picturesinthefirelight · 11/08/2013 11:35

Her previous pair were similar but in start rite. Unfortunately for us she's never been able to have Clarks as they are not deep enough for her instep.

when to wear insoles
my dd had them, she had intoeing though

Picturesinthefirelight · 11/08/2013 11:42

We've discussed orthotics. As long S she wears supportive shoes and foes lots of oot exercises she shouldn't need them. Having them will limit her choice if shoes they will fit into even more.

Sorry I'm not good at links t the best of times. We bought it from the doc marten shop in Covent Garden if that's any help. Dd is an H fitting with a high instep and a very square foot. She had it in about Y4 and again in Y7 and has small feet even now. She has often had a very plain, square toed traditional mary jane style from Start-rite - can't you just get that? She still wears it in Y10/11 without embarrassment and I'm pretty sure it starts at size 1. I do feel for you - it's hard with small dancer's feet. My mother was a ballerina - dd has the same feet but can't dance!!!

Picturesinthefirelight · 11/08/2013 12:33

I'm thinking of taking the shoes back and asking if they can order the plain ones in.

talkingnonsense · 11/08/2013 12:40

Good luck! ( and if you try aren't it shouldn't auto correct!)

HmmAnOxfordComma · 11/08/2013 14:42

The style is absolutely fine - the heart and button less so.

I would ask the shop to order the plain ones in - they look really nice.

As you say, I'm sure at a dancing school with many restrictions on style and where all the girls know to look after their feet, the plainer version of those ones will be absolutely fine.

Many of the girls at our school still wear similar to those up to year 11 (geeky school).

lljkk · 11/08/2013 17:35

The whole of MN must be clicking on that link because it took ages to come up for me. DD wouldn't be caught dead in them, sorry.

I feel for you OP, DD's feet have finally crept up to 2.5-3G/H so we can get something like brogues, thank goodness. her insteps are very high, too, but not as bad as you describe. Never had trouble finding winter boots (as long as I was willing to pay £70 for them, eek). I think we'll find kickers to fit, too. Creepers would be a no at our school, too.
