How long is the school day?

I am prompted by hearing about this school "The Academy day starts at 08.00, all students are expected to arrive by 07.50 and finish at 16.30" They also have a homework support club from 16.30-17.30

Please also include whether your school is an Academy, grammar, state, free, independent, etc.

8.40am - 3.05 pm The school I work at (Academy)
8.40am - 3.30 pm The school my children attend (state secondary)
8.00am - 4.30 pm Kings Science Academy, Bradford (Free School)

My school - State comp 08.55 - 15.20
DD's Prep School 08.00 - 16.30 (can stay to do prep till 18.00)
DS's Indie Senior 08.00 - 17.30

My school - 8.45-3.30, hour for lunch plus one break.

My DCs' school - about the same hours I think (Blush I am not really here then!).

We have two lessons after lunch - I wonder how the kids cope at schools that just have one after lunch and a very late lunchbreak as a consquence - eg starting after 1pm! I am eating the table by about 12.15!

Prep school on welsh border
7:30-6:00 (or 7:30 if u did any extra curricular)

Our secondary 8.40 - 3.10

When I went to school 9.00 - 4.15 (not sure of dinner time length though as a lot of us went home for dinner back then. It could well have been over an hour.)

Yr 5 Prep: 08.20 - 17.00 (inc 1 hour homework) or 18.00 with after school activity.
Yr 6-8 Prep: 08.20-18.00 (inc 1 hour homework) or 19.00 with after school activity.

Dcs school 8.50 to 3.30 mon-thursday and 3.15 Friday.

An early start for school is not a good idea. Teenagers dint get sleepy until much later but need more sleep. They found by moving the morning start time in some schools in the US they got better results and better behaviour. Some schools started at 7.30.

Lycee Francais London - school day runs from 8.30am to 6pm and lessons can be timetabled at any time within those hours (with gaps). If you have a late start you can go in late, if you have an early finish you can leave early, if you have an early start and a late finish with a huge gap in the middle of the day too bad! Less than ideal I'd say.

8:00 to 6:00 Mon and Friday (includes 2 hours of games/pe on both days.
8:00 to 4:30 Tues, Wed and Thurs (unless you have a match on Wed)
Indi with boarders and day pupils
