Ours is.

I think they might be, I've only heard rumours though.

clam · 28/08/2012 17:01

How do you know? Nothing on our website...

LavenderOil · 28/08/2012 17:13

We have spoken direct with the school who have said they are appealing

What, so did you phone them? Or was this when you collected the results envelope on Thursday. We didn't really see anyone, as arrived just as school closing (straight from the airport - late flight!)

LavenderOil · 28/08/2012 17:24

Well, we were talking about retaking it because we wer D but should have been at least a C. School said they were appealing the entire years result and that we should wait and see what is going to happen.

This was today. Not on results day btw. We were too numb on results day Sad

My school is appealing and I think there will be lots of confrontations via ed. authorities and unions - profession is hopping mad!

Knowsabitabouteducation · 28/08/2012 19:32

We got 100% A*-C, so no. Our results were actually better than expected.

balia · 28/08/2012 19:43

Currently Education authorities are gathering info to get a picture of how schools have been affected, and encouraging schools to appeal. It is possible to work out from raw scores which students would have got a higher grade if January or last June's grade boundaries had been applied, so schools have a very good idea which students have been disadvantaged. However, they may concentrate on the 'D' grade students just because of numbers, so if your DC got a lower grade than expected, but not a 'D', it may be worth contacting the school to ask.

Knowsabitabouteducation that is just unnecessary showing off. Shame on you.

LavenderOil · 28/08/2012 19:49

We were within 5% of the D or 5 marks, cant remember which now!

My DD's school hasn't communicated with us at all since the results.

I hope the Headteacher is enjoying her little holiday. No-one else is.

MigratingCoconuts · 28/08/2012 20:01

Harsh , you've actually no idea what might be going on behind the scenes.

Knowsabitabouteducation · 28/08/2012 20:02

How is it showing off? It is answering the OP's question and providing balance.

LineRunner · 28/08/2012 20:06

Harsh is not returning phone calls, not responding to emails, refusing to talk to parents on results day, and not putting anything on the school web site at all about exams (you'd think that GCSEs never happened).

My DD is getting more advice from her new College than the school.

LineRunner · 28/08/2012 20:11

Sorry, OP, the bottom line is that we do not know.

Good luck for your DC.

LavenderOil · 28/08/2012 20:14

that is awful linerunner. There should be someone there at least to answer your questions as best they can.

It is dreadful that with all this furore there has been nothing from your school. They could at least have someone answering the phone or a recording saying they are aware of the discrepancies, and looking into it sort of thing. What is dreadful is there are children up and down the country whose sixth form, or college place is in jeopardy.
The horror of exam result day is just lingering on and on for some.

dc's school does WJEC not AQA, and had good Eng results; so I doubt they will be appealing.

LineRunner · 28/08/2012 20:22

LavenderOil Yes, a web site statement would be helpful, for each school. God knows we're meant to access all other information there!

MigratingCoconuts · 28/08/2012 20:27

I do agree with that and it does explain the venom in your earlier post, yes.

LineRunner · 28/08/2012 20:31

Oh god, Migrating, I do feel terribly bitter, I have to admit. I was really upset on Friday night about it all, especially after having had a drink with a couple of other mothers (same school) who couldn't get any sense out of the school either. And not just about English - any subject.

I appreciate that the Leadership Team must be under a lot of stress. But laying low is not the answer.

MigratingCoconuts · 28/08/2012 20:40

I really hope they make up for lost ground next week Sad

LavenderOil · 29/08/2012 09:56

I think all parents/students deserve a comment from the school. Across the board of what their views/intentions are. Even to say they are not happy with the results and are looking into things, with an update to follow.

I checked my DD's school's website. Still a big fat nothing, as in no mention whatsoever of GCSEs at all. It's quite spooky, in a way.

LavenderOil · 29/08/2012 11:14

That is good news . It is a start and hopefully there will be more to follow.
