Enough wong that you barely noticed the outlay and could still have hols etc?

Of course, wouldn't even cross my mind to debate if I should or not!

Colleger · 13/06/2012 15:08

Actually I'd home ed!

happygardening · 13/06/2012 15:10

Paying slready and i dont have "tons of wong".Dont be under any illusions its worth every penny.

FrankWippery · 13/06/2012 15:10

I don't have loads of wong, at all, but they are privately educated, however their late father paid the fees. One leaves at the end of this term and the other two have 1 and 3 years left; and between me and my family, and money left by their father I will somehow keep them where they are.

Don't know what I'm going to do with DD3, she's not due to start school until Sep 2013. My nearest two primary schools are really not very good ones at all and I don't live in the roof space of the one that the others went to anymore, so very unlikely to get a place there, as it is one of the most oversubscribed primaries in London. At the moment it's looking increasingly likely that she will go to one of the prep schools around here.

Foofy I agree with your statement on principles Wink Grin

StillSquiffy · 13/06/2012 15:11

Yes, if I thought the local private options were better than the local state options

worrywortisworrying · 13/06/2012 15:11

Sometimes money just isn't enough.

I would have sent my DS to a prep school in a heart beat. Their rejection of him, because he wouldn't fit in with their need for excellent results have changed my mind somewhat.

Mind you, the state system is no better. They've rejected DS too.

So, yeah, I still would.

gramercy · 13/06/2012 15:13

I would choose from about three public schools or home ed with a brilliant tutor for the bits I can't do!

I wouldn't choose just any private school. From what I've seen a fair few are crap and people really are slinging their money down the drain for the sake of a kilt or a boater. The only "contacts" their dc are making are the dcs of other footballers/local fat cats and the academic side is far from impressive.

Hullygully · 13/06/2012 15:13

Ooo what 3 gramercy?

OP posts:
worrywortisworrying · 13/06/2012 15:17

I want to know too... We're looking at HE with a tutor.

Pagwatch · 13/06/2012 15:21

I do and I do.

And only cos you begged

Grin

But I sent the each to the best schools for them . If I could have got single sex with loads of sport and after school stuff in the state system I would have. And I would have waaaaaay more shoes.

gramercy · 13/06/2012 15:21

Well, I would choose Winchester College because I can nip along and spy on ds through the (posh) railings. I think he'd do very well there, actually, but needless to say that in spite of cutting back on flat screens, manicures and all-inclusive Caribbean holidays I am still a few pence short.

Hullygully · 13/06/2012 15:23

I have another question, I need to start another thread. Lot of pondering today.

OP posts:
pigsinmud · 13/06/2012 15:23

I wouldn't now as the two oldest are quite happy at their state school. They would not be happy if I moved them. If I had lots of money a year ago I would have sent dc2 to a private school. We looked round one and loved it, but simply couldn't afford it. He has anxiety issues which is why we were looking, but he has settled remarkably well in to his 240 intake a year school! Tbh I'd probably send the younger two state as well as I'm perfectly satisfied with the school.

JenaiMarrHePlaysGuitar · 13/06/2012 15:24

If the school was ace, then yes I would. I have principles, but precious little integrity.

At primary, if it was a choice between the private ones round here (of which there are many) and the state one that he's about to leave (end of Y6) then the state one would win hands down.

Hullygully · 13/06/2012 15:25

Ethics this way please

OP posts:
JenaiMarrHePlaysGuitar · 13/06/2012 15:26

I think he'd like boarding school though. Weekly, not full. So I might consider that. Is it much like PGL? He thought that was great.

GetOrfMoiiLand · 13/06/2012 15:26

No.

I would fuck off to Acapulco with DD and hire her a governess and yacht tutor instead.

nymets · 13/06/2012 15:28

dunno, some of the private schools here hire people to teach who aren't qualified, and let volunteers teach for experience.

Sarcalogos · 13/06/2012 15:28

Oh hully I think this is where we disagree, I don't actually think that independent education is unethical.

FioFio · 13/06/2012 15:29

no, because there is nothing wrong with the schools my children go to anyway :) I know we are lucky though

worrywortisworrying · 13/06/2012 15:29

Nymets - Private schools are under no obligation to use QTs. They can use anyone they know.

And, yes, I have taught in private schools as a volunteer.

Hullygully · 13/06/2012 15:32

sarca- my ethics thread isn't about that.

It's about wot price principles in general.

OP posts:
GetOrfMoiiLand · 13/06/2012 15:34

I wouldn't particularly think that dd needed to be separated from the oiks because we had a load of money.

But it is a moot point really - I know me and dd and we would act like a pair of complete nouveaus, renting helicopters and the like and taking day trips to ski resorts. I don't think education would be at the top of our list.

And for that reason I am rather thankful that I didn't win the euromillions. Grin

NettoSuperstar · 13/06/2012 15:38

I'd look at all the schools available and choose the best one.
At the moment there is no choice, only one school, if I had the cash I'd look at the one Private school too.

wordfactory · 13/06/2012 15:39

I have enough wong and send em private.

I often wonder though, if for some reason I had less wong, what would I sacrifice to keep sending them...not very good with sacrifice.
