Only 12 plus 2 Btechs

That's not fair

Katy - my kids school had logins for it
DD used schools licence code to set up our accounts
see if your kids school will do it ..

KatyMac · 13/01/2012 21:12

I remember doing it was I was a teenager; I was supposed to be a surveyor Wink

DD will be a dancer/dance teacher no discussion; she is driven

My mu thinks I should let her do Music in Yr10 when she has 3 other exams (Eng Lang, Spanish & Geog) rather than in Y11 when she has 5-7 (Maths, Eng Lit, 2/3 Science, maybe RE & another option) which seems to make sense

doing Music in one year sounds like a bad move however many other exams she has along with it.

Why can't she do it in 2 like Maths & Science?

KatyMac · 14/01/2012 18:22

Because they aren't offering it over 2 years, it's either 1 or not do it

She also wants to use her Djembe - I think she needs a more traditional instrument or maybe sing

Ponders · 14/01/2012 19:36

they're very bossy, aren't they!

KatyMac · 14/01/2012 19:42

If you are in set 3 you do this timetable, set 1 have more set 5 less

So I wish DD was in set 5 - possibly

Katy, what happens if you say " neither Ms Mac or I want her to do 12 GCSEs. She is doing (x) and (y) outside school- it is too much for her. So she is going to drop (a)(b) and (c) with immediate effect. Thank you."

KatyMac · 14/01/2012 19:53

I suppose if you have 150-180 children in a year & you have to do timetabling you need some rules

KatyMac · 14/01/2012 19:54

Who supervises her in school during that timetable slot if I do that?

Actually I quite like the idea

OP posts:
KatyMac · 14/01/2012 19:57

Or we say - OK she will attend the class but do no homework for A, B & C?

OP posts:
seeker · 14/01/2012 19:58

She sits in the library and does her homework. I've just asked dd and there are a couple of girls she knows who are doing fewer. One because she came from a Steiner school, and one because she's dyslexic.

KatyMac · 14/01/2012 20:42

I like that idea - but they already said no to it

Well she can do that for RE (1 hour a week)

I feel such a whinge bags atm

OP posts:
seeker · 14/01/2012 23:47

But if tell them rAther than asking what can they do?

KatyMac · 15/01/2012 10:42

Maybe

I'll have a talk to DD; ultimately she makes the decision unfortunately

Hmm seeker I'd be surprised if school agreed to that - usually pupils only given exemption from subjects in exceptional circumstances, otherwise can you imagine the deluge of kids wanting to do the same thing? Who would supervise them?

KatyMac · 15/01/2012 11:03

ASByatt - she already spends PE like that (2 hrs a week) & they are suggesting she can have RE like that next year (1 hr a week)

OP posts:
ASByatt · 15/01/2012 11:04

OK well in that casethey may be concerned about how much of her week she ends up spending basically unsupervised inthe library?

Not meaning to saound awkward, just thinking about the high schools I know!

ASByatt · 15/01/2012 11:05

Eeek sorry typos, not put my lenses in yet!

KatyMac · 15/01/2012 11:10

I've suggested she sits in the SN unit; but they said that would be disruptive for her Hmm?

OP posts:
KatyMac · 15/01/2012 11:11

BTW I know I'm being a pain/awkward but I have to do the best I can for her

ASByatt · 15/01/2012 11:25

I would never blame any parent for wanting what they feel is best for thier child!

Sometimes the query is whether what the parents wants is actually in the child's best interest, but in this case it does sound like a crazy GCSE schedule for a student who is not uber-academic.

ASByatt · 15/01/2012 11:26

that came out a bit wrong KatyM I hope you know what I mean!

KatyMac · 15/01/2012 11:33

I know; but she was uber academic before they moved he down 2 sets when she was ill

But now she is working very hard on her dancing/performing and will return to academia when she has dancer her little heart out. Vocational school would be a better option but for the whole being ill thing
